Mikasa sighed, loading in the last box of her belongings to her new apartment shared with her high school sweetheart, Eren Yeager.
She sat the heavy box down on the kitchen counter, wiping away a bead of sweat on her forehead. “Where the hell is he?” Mikasa thought, looking out into the open kitchen that connected to the living room and not seeing her lover. “Eren!”
“I’ll be there in a second, babe!” He shouted from their bedroom where he unpacked their cloths and put them in their shared closet.
Mikasa chuckled, turning back to her box and cutting it open with a box cutter. Inside contained small trinkets that she had collected through out her childhood. A small necklace that her mother had gifted to her before her death, a small music box her father had gave her when she was only a little girl. A sad smile stretched her lips as she put the necklace into the music box and made her way to their bedroom. Eren stood in front of the bare white wall, a finger on his chin as he looked lost in thought. Mikasa found Eren’s thinking face quite endearing, slowly walking over to him and wrapping her arms around his waist.
Eren jumped in surprise, but instantly softened upon seeing her chin rested on his shoulder.
“What are you thinking about, babe?” Mikasa asked, meeting his eye.
“I’m thinking about asking the landlord if we can paint this wall… it looks too bare… too depressing.” Eren responded, turning so that he could now face his beautiful girlfriend.
“What color were you thinking about?” She asked, resting her hands on her hips. “Yellow? Blue?”
Eren smiled softly. “I was thinking of a dark green, but I like yellow too.”
“I like green, maybe we could paint the baby’s room yellow…” Mikasa responded with a smirk, her eyes trailing away from him.
Eren’s eyes widened as his jaw dropped. “B-baby! What baby!?” His face looked panicked as he raced over to her, his hands instantly going to her stomach. “Are you?…”
Mikasa giggled, pulling his hands from her stomach and wrapping them around her waist. “I was only kidding, Eren. There’s no baby… yet.”
Eren sighed in relief, pulling her closer to him and kissing her forehead. He couldn’t help the sudden feeling of sadness wash over him because for a second, he was actually excited to be a father. He wanted a daughter to spoil rotten, buy her everything she wanted because he knew he wouldn’t be able to say no. Someone to love unconditionally, someone to protect, someone to tell bedtime stories to. He wanted a family, and he knew he wouldn’t want one with anyone that wasn’t the woman standing in front of him. “Are you sure? Babe, I wouldn’t be mad, if you were pregnant I’d be so happy…”
“I’m not pregnant… but if you want, we could change that.” Mikasa responded with a smirk, her eyes trailing over to the bed.
Eren looked conflicted, they had a lot of unboxing left to do and he had a romantic night planed for them anyway. “Later, me and you have a lot of unboxing to do.” He pulled away, turning back to the boxes.
Mikasa groaned, rolling her eyes and making her way back to the kitchen. “You’re boring, babe!”
Eren chuckled, pulling out a record player from an Amazon box along with a record that was a light brown. In small, curvy letters read “Arctic Monkeys, Leave Before The Lights Come On”
The alternative rock band had been their favorite in their edgy teen phase, with their earlier albums like AM, Favorite Worst Nightmare, and Suck it and See. As they grew older, they got more into the bands softer side of music. When they first got together, their song had been ‘I Wanna Be Yours’ and when their relationship got more serious, their song had become ‘Baby, I’m Yours’.
He carefully sat the two items down gently on the mattress of their bed, deciding that their song could be played later on, more things had to be done.
As Mikasa stood in the living room, hanging up pictures of them and their friends, she hummed a soft melody. She sat small decorations on the coffee table, a fake plant just to make the apartment more homie. A small picture of her uncle that had raised her since her parents deaths. The picture was of their graduation day, Mikasa in a cap and grown standing next to the shorter man who only ever seemed to smile on rare occasions. He had his arms crossed as Mikasa had an arm wrapped around his shoulders.
Eren stood awkwardly beside the two, holding his cap in his hands as he knew if he were to touch the girl in front of the man, he’d simply go ballistic.
Levi had been way too overprotective of the girl without even knowing. Being the only family he had left, he really feared loosing the raven haired girl. Once Mikasa and Eren got together in their junior year of high school, Levi had interrogated the young man until he was scared shitless.
Next to Levi stood his partner, Zöe Hange. The person who helped him raise Mikasa. They had been a couple for years before Mikasa had come into the picture. Levi had no idea what he was doing when he had to take her in. He wasn’t ready to be someone’s father, especially in his early twenties. Without Hange, he’s pretty sure Mikasa would’ve been in a foster home.
Levi and Mikasa had been very thankful for Hange.
Mikasa smiled at the family picture, carefully setting it down next to the fake plant. The only thing left to unpack was dishes, something she really didn’t want to do. She sighed in exhaustion, stepping into the kitchen once again and stacking the plates and bowls.
A soft tune started to play quietly though out the apartment, masking Mikasa smile softly. She felt a pare of strong arms wrap around her small waist and sway her side to side. She sat down the dishes and rested her arms on his, letting the soft tune drown out everything. The sound of car horns though out the city, the stress of moving. Everything didn’t seem to exist to them. In that moment, it was just Eren and Mikasa.
Eren turned Mikasa around, his arms going around her waist as their foreheads connected. Mikasa’s eyes fluttered closed as they moved to the music. Swaying side to side, Eren lifted his head and kissed her forehead softly.
It didn’t matter how long they’ve been together, Mikasa still got butterflies when Eren gently touched her. She savored the taste of his lips every time they kissed, enjoyed every hand hold in public, and loved the way he’d grab her waist to slow dance.
“Yours, until poets run out of rhyme” Eren sang along, his hand moving up to hers. Their fingers interlocked together. “In other words, until the end of time”
“I love how sappy you are.” Mikasa laughed, her nose scrunching up as her smile went wide.
Eren could’ve sworn his heart stopped beating in those very few seconds. He knew in that very moment, that Mikasa was the girl we was going to marry some day. He didn’t want anyone else. He craved no one else. He loved her, and her only. He smiled back, pulling her closer.
“What can I say, I feel very loving when I’m with you, my dear.”
Mikasa rolled her eyes, her arms hanging loosely over his shoulders as she looked at him in his dark green eyes that were half lidded, drunk off of the very intoxicating feeling of love.
“I love you.” Mikasa said, her hand running up his head and through his long hair. “Those words don’t feel as inadequate to the feeling I have buzzing in my heart, though.”
Eren raised his eyebrows, questioning with his eyes because he didn’t dare ruin or interrupt the beautiful sound of her voice telling him how much she loved him with his own voice.
“It’s more like… I absolutely adore you? No, that sounds too childish…”
Eren chuckled, shaking his head. “I don’t think there are words to describe the feelings I have for you, but I know and you know, that we love each other very much.”
Mikasa nodded. “I know, I just wish there were.”
As the song ended, Mikasa pulled away from their rhythm. She faced the dishes once again, stacking them and putting them in cabinets.
Eren frowned, wrapping his arms around her waist once again. She chuckled, closing one of the cabinets. “You’re extra clingy today, Eren. What’s wrong?”
“Is it so wrong that I want to touch you every second of everyday?” Eren responded, kissing her cheek. “Every time I’m around you I just want to wrap you up in a tight hug and stay like that forever.”
Mikasa stood still, enjoying the warmth of Eren’s body against her back. She knew his past and how his own parents treated him. He got clingy when he was sad, or overwhelmed or when he simply wanted to be held. She didn’t mind it though, she loved his strong arms around her waist or shoulders.
“I get that way too, babe, but we have stuff to do.” Mikasa responded, turning around and kissing him again.
“Can’t that stuff wait until tomorrow? I’m tried and want to cuddle.” Eren whined, cupping her cheeks and inspecting her crunched up face. “You’re so cute and pretty and beautiful and-“
“Okay, okay but when uncle Levi comes over tomorrow and sees that the stuff isn’t put away, I’m blaming you.” She laughed, not entirely against the idea of going to bed. She grabbed his hand and lead them to their bedroom and cleared off their bed. Eren changed into a pair of sweat pants and an old t-shirt, dragging his sleepy feet across the floor and throwing himself on the bed. Mikasa joined, changed into one of Eren’s oversized shirts that fell down to her knees.
Eren wrapped his limbs around hers, pulling her chest closer to his. His eyes started to flutter closed, placing another kiss to her forehead. “You look really good in my cloths.”
Mikasa chuckled. “It’s just your old shirt I’m wearing as a night gown.”
Eren smiled, looking down at her. “Okay and? You still look amazing in them.”
Mikasa rolled her eyes, a playful smile spreading her lips. “You’re too sweet.”
Eren’s eyes closed once again, a blissful smile still on his lips. He pulled her face closer to his and pecked her face over and over. One kiss on her cheek, one under the eye, one on her nose, one on her forehead, and one on her lips. She laughed, tightening her arms around his torso. Her head rested on his chest and listened to his gentle heartbeat as a soothing lullaby. Sleep came to her faster than Eren as he laid their running his fingers through Mikasa’s raven black hair.
“I’m so in love with you.” He sighed, slowly drifting off to sleep as well.
The next morning, they were awoken to Levi standing over the couple with a disappointing scowl. Eren blinked a few times before jumping out of bed.
“Ah! Mr. Ackerman! W-welcome!” He laughed nervously, looking down to Mikasa who sat up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. His expression softened as he felt his heart melt at the scene.
Levi rolled his eyes, smacking Eren on the back of his head. “Just because you two have moved in with each other doesn’t mean you get to… cuddle and be all gross together.”
Eren rubbed the spot that stung, looking up to Levi with an apologetic expression. “Sorry, Mr. Ackerman.”
“I was kidding, but still. Keep your grubby hands off of her.” Levi responded, glaring at Eren.
“Is aunt Hange here?” Mikasa asked groggily, getting up and stretching. Eren smiled warmly at the girl and noticed how the shirt went up and exposed her thighs as her arms stretched out.
Levi smacked him again. “Stop that.”
Eren avoided eye contact with the man who now had his focus on Mikasa.
“Yes, your aunts here. She’s in the kitchen making tea for you guys.” Levi answered her question, watching her walk off, just leaving Eren and Levi in one room alone.
“Mr. Ackerman… I have a question.” Eren said, slowly walking over to his drawer and pulling out a small box.
Levi’s face remained unamused, watching Eren open the box and reveal an old, diamond ring. “Can I have your blessing in taking Mikasa’s hand in marriage?”
Levi raised a brow, glancing at the ring and back to Eren. “You want to marry my Niece?”
Eren nodded, looking at Levi like a scared puppy. “Yes, I’ve wanted to marry her for a while now.”
Levi sighed, rubbing his temples with his index fingers. “And why should I let you marry her? You two are only twenty years old, barely financially stable, if I say yes, how will I know you won’t cheat on her and break her heart?”
Eren looked at the man offended. “I would never do such a thing, Mr. Ackerman. I love Mikasa… more than words could ever describe. I know for damn sure I don’t want to be with anyone else. I want to spend the rest of my life with her because… I love her… god I love her so much.”
Levi stayed quiet, making Eren’s confidence drop even more. He closed the box and stuck it back into the drawer.
“I don’t like you, Eren. Ever since you shoved her down on the playground when you two were in fourth grade I’ve always wanted to beat your ass.” Levi said, crossing his arms.
“And you did kick my ass in our junior year…” Eren added in, quickly looking up to Levi then back to the floor.
“Yeah and what about it?” Levi sighed, walking over and pulling the drawer open. He tried his hardest to ignore the box of condoms right beside the ring box as he picked it up and sat it in Eren’s hands. “But… if you truly do love Mikasa… then I cannot stop you two. Marry her, make her happy.”
Eren smiled widely, looking up to Levi with pure happiness. “Really? Thank you Mr. Ackerman!”
Levi shook his head, trying to fight off the smile that was pulling at his own lips. “Yeah, Yeah. Don’t make me regret it Yeager.”
Eren shook his hand. “You won’t, I promise Mr. Ackerman.”
“For gods sake, call me Levi. We’re adults now, you don’t have to treat me like I’m still your teacher.” Levi responded, now smiling at Eren who smiled like an idiot.
“Right, right sorry.”
Right before Eren could walk out with the ring still in his hands, Levi grabbed his shoulder and pulled him back into the room.
“Hey, thank you… for making her happy. When you two got together, I hadn’t seen her smile like that in years. I trust you, Eren.”
Eren nodded. “Mr. Levi, you have no idea how happy Mikasa makes me, so I should be thanking you… for taking great care of her and making her the person she is today.”
Levi shook his head, waving Eren off. “Yeah, Yeah. Hurry up and get this done before I change my mind.”
Eren gulped. God, it was going to be a long day.
