Work Text:
At the beginning Izu doesn't show his face or gives much detail on who he is in his vlogs.
His face is never shown, the most anyone see's are his hands, and the rest of him but never his face. He doesn't talk in his videos either, but its subtitled. He usually shows morning routines, gives pieces of advice to those also quirkless, finds joy that his video's actually help a lot of people, even those with quirks. And he starts doing more things that his fans are asking.Especially the face reveal. He makes a joke in one video and says, "perhaps if I get a lot more subscribers maybe I'll do face reveal"
Izu wakes up on a Saturday logs into his social media and U-tube and is flabbergasted in the amount of subscribers he has received in the last 2 two days. He reached 2.2 million and doesn't know what to do about it.
He did say he was gonna do a face reveal, so he has to honor his words. He is nervous, honestly, he started this channel to hopefully change the view on quirkless people like himself, and that regardless the circumstances, being quirkless doesn't mean you have less value. That it's okay to be quirkless and to not let others dictate how you should live your life. There was plenty of things that quirkless people can achieve without a quirk and not being a hero. Hero's still needed support in different ways that were not out in the field.
With a heavy sigh, he logged off his computer and decided to go take Mighty B for a walk. A pitbull he rescued one afternoon, thrown away at the shelter because he became an "inconvenience". Izuku knew how it felt to be tossed aside, so taking him felt like healing for them both.
The walk at the dog park was nice and calm, and throwing the ball with B always helped him with complicated issues in his life.
"I know I said I would perhaps do a face reveal... But why do I feel so nervous all of a sudden?"
The more Izuku thought about his situation, the more he realized that a face reveal could potentially cause some issues. An example would be a lack of privacy. Izuku isn't too fond about being put in the spotlight, which is comical since he runs a U-tube channel.
But its different, he never had to worry about someone recognizing him, at least not right off the bat. He is sure if someone with a critical eye like himself they could find out who he was, but revealing one's face? On the internet for everyone to see him? Was he even ready?
A week passes by and he has missed the deadline to upload a video. Usually they are 30 to 45 mins long. The reason for that is because Izuku films 4 days out of the week and uses two days to edit and the last day to upload. However... Izuku has been a nervous wreck since his following skyrocketed and not only that U-tube had reached out to him! Basically a congrats on the 2.2 mil subs and because his view counts also went up that also meant more money... He was not ready for double-K check. He nearly fainted.
So instead of a full upload video he decides to at least give a small U-tube short announcement and is just honest about how things had been going that week. He explains how work has been busy lately, which is true. He also explains the nerves, but promises to upload next week.
He gets many positive responses. Of course the few trolls and just ugly people on the internet, he ignores though. However, one comment really stood out to him. In a way, it was almost nostalgic.
ⲈⲭⲢ𝓵0ⲇⲘ𐌵ꞅⲆꞅ𝓖Ⲇ: "Don't say things if you don't really mean to follow through with them! I would expect better from a NERD who has blown up All Might posters in their living room"
For some reason that comment really stood out to him. He has had comments noticing his fanboy tendencies before, he doesn't try to hide it. Then it hits him, this person is a Dynamight fan. Honestly the emojis should've given it away, but he hasn't exactly been in his headspace.
He and Katsuki drifted apart completely after middle school, especially when UA letters were sent out and Izuku was accepted, but for General Ed or Support. He didn't attend. Instead, he took a year break. Things were hard for him at the time.
He remembers it as if it were yesterday.
"Due to your quirkless attribute we cannot allow you to join the Hero course, however you excellently scored in the written exams. Great way to be Plus Ultra! We offer alternative non-hero course programs. Welcome, Freshmen!"
At the time he was still hoping to be a hero, but the deny from UA was the final nail in the coffin of his hero dreams. Thinking back on it now, it was necessary. He was able to discover a different type of calling...
Izuku finished his skincare routine and dried his face off before he smiles at the camera in light blue scrubs and holds a peace sign, "Let's do our best today, stay safe!"

Katsuki is on his lunch break when the U-tube app sends him a notification. It was Monday, the day a vlogger he follows, uploads their videos.
It's 30 mins long, so it's perfect timing to say to say the least. He watches in peace, the video is at the 28 minute mark. Still no face reveal, just as he growls and is about to close the video the scene changes and what he see's makes him drop his BLT.
"... D-Deku?"

Izuku sweated bullets, stiff as a board as he felt people’s stares at work. It's been three days and the video has reached 900k views. You could say that he was a little paranoid, but work continued on semi-normal. Some patients didn’t recognize him and that was nice. It meant that he could still get away with having some normalcy.
Just he was clocking out an arm has wrapped around his shoulders.
“Yo Izu! I didn’t know you were famous!”
“Oh! Hey Kiba!”
“Don’t ‘hey Kiba’ me! Seriously man, this whole time you were making those life videos on U-tube the entire time?! My girlfriend won’t shut up about how lucky I am to be working with someone famous!”
“Hehe, I wouldn’t go that far, a lot of people may watch my videos, but I’ve only shown my face once, and Shiemi only knows me because we’ve met and drank together before”
“Yea yea, but seriously dude, I’m surprised. Also makes me wonder what you’re still doing working here? You could literally do your U-tube full-time and not have to worry about working.”
“Well, I Iike helping people”
“You clocked out Izu, you can drop the nurse act”
“Kiba, you’re a nurse too!”
“Only while I’m clocked in! Anyways, we’re going for drinks since its our Friday, want to join us?”
“Hmm..nah, I’m good. Actually, I wanted to take B for a night walk and film a little”
“Okay okay, I get it Mr. Vlogger, hehe still can’t believe you’re famous dude, watch in no time people are going to be rushing to you for autographs like they do to the heroes and celebrities!”
“Ha-ha honestly, I hope it doesn’t get that far”
Kiba patted his back before he left and walked off to the group waiting down the stair steps. Izuku waved goodbye to his co-workers before walking in the opposite direction towards the train.
The train ride was peaceful and quiet. It made him be in his thoughts though. ‘Like the heroes? Heh, not even close, but it does sound flattering hearing it from other people’
The walk home was uneventful and Izuku really felt the fatigue when he entered the small apartment building. He wasn't paying much attention when he tripped on what looked like a parcel. His front door was covered in parcels from brands and some from U-Tube.
"Okay B, go get it!"
B ran after the ball Izuku threw as he busied himself setting up his little tri-pod. The beach park at night was lovely and it was Izuku's favorite pass time. He continued the routine and had set to record. Mostly catching B running and himself drinking his iced matcha without showing his face again. Honestly, he liked it this way. He wanted others to feel like they too could be a part of this video. That they could picture themselves here. Its one of the reasons he made his videos this way.
He spent the next hour just walking around the beach park with B in tow. Took plenty of pictures and filmed little things that he found interesting. Like a mother and child playing on the beach, people jogging and walking their dogs too. Sometimes he filmed his own legs walking.
"Let's go home B!"

"Honestly B, every time we go to the 7/11 the more spoiled you get. I guess it's my fault for feeding you a meat bun that one--oof!"

Walking out of the 7/11 with B was the last thing Izuku remembered before waking up in a hospital bed…
