Work Text:
Bashira opened her eyes slowly. She didn’t really want to wake up from the dream she had last night. The nice purple man, Hi-san, had been so warm and nice. He had called her cute! Then Hi-san’s green person, Zu-san, had given her food and hugs and hummed her a song. They were so nice and Bahsira didn’t want to wake up from the nice dream where they tucked her into a bed. The alley she usually slept in seemed softer and cleaner than normal. Stretching big, still without opening her eyes, Bashira paused. She wasn’t in her cat mode.
Quickly, Bashira flew open her eyes and looked around. A wide grin stretched across her face and she bounced in place a little. It wasn’t a dream! Bashira twisted the soft brown blanket in her fists and tried to muffle the happy squeaks that were leaving her throat. Green hair poked into the room once Bashira started making noises. “Hey, Kiddo! Did you get some sleep?” Zu-san was smiling really nicely at Bashira and it made her feel nice and warm. Like a big fluffy blanket around her insides.
“Mmmhhmm. ‘Ankkk you. ‘S warm-mm.” Bashira bit her lip and looked away. Zu-san and Hi-san had been really good at understanding her, but she knew it was annoying. She didn’t like that her tongue and lips wouldn’t work how she wanted. She wanted to talk like everyone else, she just couldn’t! Zu-san smiled even brighter and sat down on the edge of the bed.
“Well, Bashira, how do you feel about a bath? We have some clothes that might, almost fit for today.” Bashira’s eyes widened. She hadn’t had a bath in a long time and clothes too? She quickly threw herself at Zu-san and locked her arms around his neck. Nodding her head up and down, Bashira welcomed the warm fuzzy feeling that filled her chest when Zu-san hugged her back. “Do you want one of us to help you with the bath or will you be okay alone? Hitoshi and I will understand completely. If you want to take the bath alone though, I am going to ask you to keep the door cracked open in case you need us.
Bashira saw Hi-san’s purple hair creeping around the edge of the doorframe. “Hi-ssan-n can-n hel-lll-lp?” Zu-san grinned really wide and ran his fingers through Bashira’s hair like he did last night. She really liked that, it made her head feel not so itchy. Hi-san’s eyes widened and flickered between Bashira and Zu-san.
“Sure, Princess. I can help you out.” Zu-san had a funny smile on his face when he looked at Hi-san, but it still looked nice. Hi-san smiled when he saw it so it must have been a good smile. “Want to go to the bathroom before bath time?” Bashira grinned up at Hi-san and nodded. She really didn’t want to walk, and Hi-san had carried her last night. Maybe he would carry her now? Stretching her arms up towards him Bashira tried to grab at Hi-san, but he was too far away. Zu-san laughed and made his chest rumble against her before he stood up and handed her to Hi-san.
Bath time was fun. Hi-san had helped get all the dirt off of Bashira and had done the finger thing in her hair like Zu-san did! The towel had been super soft and was a pretty grey with purple stars on it. She really liked the towel. Bashira also liked that Hi-san would smile and boop her nose when he was playing with her hair. He had told her that next time they might be able to get some bubbles if she wanted. Bashira hadn’t had bubbles in her bath before and they sounded like a lot of fun. Zu-san had stopped in with some clothes while Bashira was in the bath. He had been smiling and gave Hi-san a kiss on the cheek. Bashira kind of wanted a kiss on the cheek, but didn’t know if that was okay.
“Alright, Princess. Do you want a dress or shorts?” Bashira eyed the pretty green dress with pink flowers on it. It was a really nice dress, and she didn’t want to mess it up. Hi-san was asking though. Maybe it would be okay this time? Hesitantly, Bashira pointed at the dress. She was watching Hi-san closely and when he smiled as her she smiled back. Hi-san helped her into the dress and a pair of underwear with polkadots on them. She felt really pretty, and her hair was really swishy on her back. Bashira kept reaching around and touching it with her fingers. “Let’s go get some breakfast, Princess. Izuku has some oatmeal for us.”
Bashira grabbed Hi-san’s hand and skipped beside him to the kitchen. She really liked the feeling of the dress on her legs. It was swishy like her hair. Zu-san smiled really wide when they came in and picked Bashira up to sit in a seat at the table. The seat had a stack of books on it so that she could reach. “Look at you! All clean and in a cute dress. Are you hungry, Kiddo?” Bashira could smell the oatmeal. It smelled really good, like the cinnamon bread she used to have. Her tummy gurgled right as Zu-san gave Hi-san another kiss on the cheek. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
When Zu-san set the bowl down and handed Bashira a spoon, he kissed the top of her head. Bashira’s eyes started crying. She really liked Zu-san and Hi-san. She didn’t want to go back to the alley. Zu-san’s eyes widened a lot and his hands started fluttering. “Bashira? Are you okay?” His words were a little faster than they had been, but that didn’t matter.
“Wanna st-t-tay. Zu-sssan and Hi-ssann are ni-c-c-ce!” Hi-san dropped down in front of Bashira and wrapped his arms around her in a big hug. It made Bashira feel better, especially when Zu-san started pulling his fingers through her hair.
“It’s okay, Princess. We wanted to ask if you wanted to stay. We’ll have to do some paperwork, but we want you to stay too.” Bashira started crying even harder. She locked her arms around Hi-san’s neck and hugged him tight. It took her a long time to calm down but once she did Zu-san held her in his lap. He was rubbing circles on her back and Hi-san was helping her eat the oatmeal. One of Bashira’s hands was wrapped around Zu-san’s fingers the whole time. He didn’t seem to mind. Bashira really liked it here.
