Chapter 1: I'm not that old, Nathan Maisel!

Chapter Text

January, 2010. Upper West Side, NYC. Maisel Residence.

Nathan was organizing his grandmother's - God help him - clothing room. His sister should be helping him since she was the one who wanted his grandmother's old clothes because they were "vintage" or something, but he was not complaining about this.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandmother, she would tell him about the good times she had when she toured Europe and all over America. He admired Miriam Maisel more than anyone on earth except, perhaps, his father, Ethan.

When Midge called him to help her, Nathan thought that it would only be a few boxes and not a room FULL of clothes from the sixties. But, again, he was not complaining. He had even found some suits that he would definitely get for himself.

"Are you okay in there, honey?" asks Midge from the bedroom doorway watching her grandson come out from under the racks of clothes in the room with a hat on his head making the woman laugh.

"How do you have so much stuff like that?" asks Nathan laughing as he stood up to hug his grandmother.

"I just like to remember when I wore each important dress. And your great grandmother, she wouldn't let me get rid of those." says Midge as if that was the answer to all the questions and they definitely were, Rose Weissman was missed in Midge's life more than she would admit.

"To this day I'm afraid to wear the same suit three times." says Nathan trying to improve the mood of the conversation with a laugh at the end. "But I found a box full of clippings and letters in the corner, do you want to see it?

"That old thing? You can throw it away dear, the memories of this box I keep in my mind far away from curious boys like you," Midge laughed and pinched the tip of Nathan's nose who smiled sideways. "Now leave that box there and come have tea with me, I want you to tell me all about that boy you met at the Gaslight," she says leaving the room with Nathan stumbling after her in disbelief.

"But how... Susie?" asks Nathan and when Midge laughs, the boy is sure that his grandmother's old friend/agent was sending information about him. "I can no longer attend the Gaslight or the Button Club since my grandparents seem to have connections that don't end."
