Since forever, Nene and Aoi have been best friends. Recently, though, Nene has been rather busy with something or the other. She always wanted to make time for her best friend, but it was often difficult. Today, though, she got a break from her usual after-school job, so she was planning on spending the whole afternoon with Aoi.
"You know, it would be nice if we could do this more often."
"I know. I feel the same way, but you know how it is...."
Nene looked down at her feet.
"Even still! I'm still your best friend, you know!"
"I know, I'm sorry."
"It's okay, but I just wish-!!"
"I'm always busy 'cause that Hanako is always making me clean his toilets for him every day."
"What? That's horrible! Why don't you just bail on him?"
"It's more complicated than that."
"What do you mean, complicated? What is he gonna do, kill you?"
"Maybe...."
Aoi turned to face her. She didn't look bothered, not even mildly so. Maybe a bit confused, like she didn't know whether Nene was joking. She didn't push further. For the better, it was best not to argue on their date.
"At any rate, let's enjoy today for what it is."
Nene nodded in agreement.
"Well, Ao-chan, we have all afternoon. Where should we go first?"
"What about that one ice cream parlour? You know, our favourite."
"It's a bit out of the way."
"It's worth the walk."
"You're right! For once," Nene giggled.
"I'm always right!"
The two girls looked at each other with big grins, before erupting into laughter. How nice it is, friendship between two girls.
