Harmless Flirting

Summary:

Shinou's side of the flirtation scene from chapter 24. Because this flirting disaster deserved to exist outside of just inside my head.

Notes:

I don't know how to flirt so I had to rely on google for help with this lol. I'm actually proud of the flirting that I've had Ken do during this, but that's easier to come up with since it flows with the course of the conversation. This is just contextless flirting

Work Text:

If I was physical right now and could cross my arms, I would. I am beginning to wonder if I made the right decision choosing Yuuri as the next Maoh. Yuuri should be more beneficial than expected since he knows about the boxes and their importance, but no, he’s choosing to be stupid and weakened by his heart. This is no time to leave anything unaccounted for. Even if he can come up with a plan, Conrart should be sent to Big Shimaron as a safety measure.

“Tell Yuuri he’s being naive,” I tell Ken.

The brat yells at me. At me! Does he even realize the liberties I’ve given him? I’ve allowed him to bounce back and forth between worlds at his leisure. I brought him and his supposed love of his life together. I’ve even allowed him to lead Ken further away from me. He should be grateful! But instead, he calls out my plan. He doesn’t want the boxes? So, what? This isn’t about him. This is about Shin Makoku.

“Tell him that he will give me the respect I deserve,” I spat.

“He’s not happy,” is Ken’s adaption. I shouldn’t be surprised.

I sigh, irritatedly listening as they talk through a new plan. What they come up with actually isn’t bad. Fallible, but not bad.

“Now just to get Shinou to agree,” Ken says.

“Can’t you just use your dad voice on him?” Yuuri asks.

As if I require a dad voice. I’m not a child that needs minding.

Of course, Ken disagrees, though. He laughs. Laughs! “That usually works, but this is a serious matter.”

Yuuri yells at me for no reason. Hello, neither of you even asked me. Why do you just assume that I still need convincing?

“What the hell, Shinou! This is a good plan! Better than you just sending Conrad off to “win Belar’s trust.” Real good that does anyone. People just end up getting hurt!”

Fine, they want to convince me further, they will convince me further. There’s no reason I can’t get a bit of fun out of this. Especially since Ken’s been ignoring me so much lately.

“Ken, love–”
“Don’t call me that!” he yells at me telepathically, cutting me off.

I just smile at the outburst. “You’ve made me feel so lonely lately. I might consider this plan over mine if you reassure me that you care.”

“What exactly are you asking for? A party?”

“Of course not,” I say lowly. “I want you to flirt with me. I’ve missed your sweet nothings.”

Ken blanches in response. Such an unagreeable response. He could at least pretend to still care.

Yuuri gives him a concerned look. “What? What did he say?”

“He said he’ll tell Conrart the plan’s changed. But…only if I flirt with him.”

To both of our surprises, Yuuri goes along with it. "Flirt with him, then."

"Seriously?" he asks sounding annoyed. "He's kind of my ex, you know."

"It's just a bit of harmless flirting, though."

“Yes, Ken love,” I do my best to imitate whispering in his ear, “it’s just a bit of harmless flirting.”

Ignoring me, he grumbles to Yuuri, "Nothing's harmless with Shinou."

Rude!

Ken closes his eyes so that he can better talk to me. “Sometimes you just meet someone, and you instantly realize you wanna spend your whole life without them. You are one of those people.”

I really wish I could give him an unimpressed look. “Did you think I’d miss the word without in that sentence? That’s just an insult.”

He sighs. “If people were boogers, I’d pick you first. That way I can flick you away from me.”

“Come now, Ken, this is supposed to be flirting. Your skills have really gone downhill.”

“Or I just hate you a lot more now.”

“Aw, don’t say that. You know you love me.”

“Do I?”

“Remember when you told me I was the answer to all of your prayers? Or when you said that we were brought together by fate? You said, life without you would be like a broken arrow: pointless. Or when you told me my–”

“Okay! Stop! I’ve heard enough!”

I chuckle. “Sensitive, aren’t you? Give me a real flirt, then, and I’ll stop.”

“What time do you have to be back in heaven?” It is a real flirtation, but the irony of his choice does not escape me. The effect is also ruined by the monotony of his tone.

“Very funny. Give me another. One that isn’t a jibe at me. Otherwise, I can start flirting with you instead. Did you know that you gave new meaning to the definition of edible?”

“Ew! Oh my god! Okay, fine! I’ve had a crush on you since I got here.”

The delivery could use some work, but I’ll take it. Especially since we both know it actually holds genuinity.

“See, that wasn’t so hard, was it?”

“You were about to make my ears bleed.”

“You used to love it. Although, I can make your ears bleed if you want me to.”

“Nope, I’m out!”

With that, Ken cuts off our connection. I can still hear him if I want to obviously, but it’s like he threw a blanket up around him to muffle the sound.

I would be grinning if I could. Was it something I said?
