Chapter Text
“But he’s so hot , Ten! I’m telling you, this guy is perfect for you. Plus you need a date for Haechan and Mark’s wedding. You need to find someone who can jet off to Taiwan with you in a few weeks!”
“So you’re recommending an emergency department doctor who has to be in and out of the hospital at a moment’s notice?”
“I’m telling you, okay. Jeno had to go in for an emergency and this guy was his doctor… he’s amazing, he’s everything you’re looking for.”
“Or, he’s not an amazing guy but is just a really good doctor and has a really good bedside manner?”
Yang Yang scoffs and rolls his eyes, waving a hand. “I’m telling you, you should one hundred percent take a chance on this guy.”
“Do you have his phone number? Any contact info?”
“...There lies the problem, heh.” Yang Yang grins over his take out coffee cup, fluttering his eyelashes. “I don’t have any contact information for him but I am donating blood at the hospital later today and we could accidentally walk into the emergency department doors rather than the general reception doors. See if you can get a glance at him?”
“This is ridiculous, Yang Yang, I’m not doing this.” Ten focuses back on his cup of coffee, sighing. “And who says I want to bring someone to Mark and Haechan’s wedding? Maybe I just want to go and celebrate my friends getting married, and spend some time enjoying the holiday I get?”
“Oh come on , Ten. It’s been a year since you broke up with Johnny and you still haven’t even tried to find someone new.”
“I’m not looking for someone, Yang Yang. I don’t want a partner. I want to focus on myself and my career right now.”
Yang Yang sighs. “Come on, Ten, you can’t do this for another year.”
“And why not?”
“Because you’re going to be single for too long, forget how to flirt or how to create meaningful romantic relationships, adopt another five cats alongside Leon and Louis, and then they’re going to eat you when you die alone.”
Ten stares at him, eyebrow raising slightly before he starts laughing. “Yang Yang, come off it. I’m twenty-six, I have plenty of time to find someone. Relax.”
“At least try one single date with this doctor. If we can track him down.”
“Yang Yang, I am begging you to stop trying to set me up with random strangers that you don’t even know.”
Yang Yang sighs. “What about one blind date?”
“The last time I went on a blind date set up by one of you lot, it was with Johnny to try and get us back together.”
“You can’t blame us for trying.”
“Our relationship went stale. We work better as friends. There’s nothing there romantically.”
Yang Yang rolls his eyes, opening his mouth to reply only to suddenly stop walking. His eyes widen and he smiles, laughing a little. “Let me set you up on one date. A bet. If it works out and lasts until Haechan and Mark’s wedding, then you owe me 62,000 Won. If it doesn’t last, I owe you the same amount.”
Ten stops, looking back at him, with a raised brow. He sighs, his shoulders slumping. “Alright, I’ll take you up on it. Why? What did you just see?”
Yang Yang smiles, winking before he suddenly drops to the ground. He lays there, not moving and Ten blinks a little. “Yang Yang?”
Yang Yang snickers into the pavement and Ten raises an eyebrow. “What are you doing?"
“Hey, is he okay?” Someone rushes by Ten and he turns his head, blinking at the man suddenly kneeling next to Yang Yang. “I’m a doctor at the hospital nearby. What happened before he fell?”
Ten sniffs a little, anxiety starting to churn in his stomach. “I don’t know… we were just talking about a bet we had going about me going on a date and-”
Yang Yang suddenly surges upwards, fluttering his eyelashes. “Please forgive me, Doctor Lee.”
The man - doctor - leans back, frowning a little. “Uh, that’s okay. Forgive you for what?”
“I didn’t pass out, I faked it.”
“Huh, okay.”
Ten curses under his breath. “Yang Yang, what are you doing? Why are you playing around like this? I thought something had happened.”
“Doctor Lee, I don’t know if you remember me from my friend coming into the emergency department a while ago?” Yang Yang slowly stands, brushing his jeans off as he does so. “But my friend here, Ten, came in to visit as you were leaving shift. He mentioned numerous times how… attractive you were and that he wishes he’d spoken to you before you left. I saw you at the coffee cart and acted a bit too quickly. I should have thought a bit more clearly before acting but I couldn’t let you just walk away and let my friend be so heartbroken and forlorn again. If you’re into men, of course.”
Ten stares, mouth dropping open, eyes wide as Yang Yang smiles, ever so innocently. He scoffs a little, shaking his head. “No, he’s- I- what ?”
The doctor stands a little, looking between the two of them, a deep frown on his face. “I uh. I’m flattered. I think. But do you understand how dangerous that just was? What if someone else was having an actual emergency and you took me away from that? Or if you hit your head on the way down? You could have given yourself a brain injury. And what if I didn’t see it and you did hit your head?”
Yang Yang hangs his head, like a puppy being told off, and nods his head. “I’m sorry, Doctor, I really am. Next time, I will most definitely think twice.”
He nods, frowning at Yang Yang before looking over at Ten. “And you.”
Ten chokes on the sip of his drink he was taking, shocked after enjoying watching Yang Yang be lectured. He swallows quickly, coughing slightly. “No, he’s lying I-”
“-Here’s my card. Feel free to text me.”
He smiles, handing out a business card. Ten blinks rapidly, looking between the man’s face and the card being held out to him. He slowly takes the card, staring at it before looking back up to the doctor. Before he can say anything, he turns, heading back towards the coffee cart to get his drink.
Ten stares at the card in his hand before looking at Yang Yang, spluttering. “The hell was that! You just lied to a doctor , I’m pretty sure that’s some form of illegal.”
Yang Yang waves his hand. “It’s not illegal, you drama queen?”
“It’s morally bankrupt. Also, I’m the drama queen? Says the one who just faked a fainting spell to get some doctor’s number!”
“It worked, didn’t it?”
Ten shakes his head, laughing a little. “You’re unbelievable.”
“You owe me a coffee.”
“You were the one dropping it on purpose, for something I did not ask you to do. You can buy your own coffee.”
Yang Yang pouts, falling into step with Ten as they start walking down the street. “You wound me.”
“You are ridiculous . That doctor should have given you a slap for that bullshit.”
“What’s his name?”
Ten looks at the card in his hand, raising an eyebrow. “Lee Taemin, he’s a physician at Soonchunhyang.”
“What do you say we go see him sometime?”
“What are you going to do? Poison yourself to get into the emergency department?”
“Hm, that sounds like an idea. Know where to get any cyanide I can just swallow now and head into the emergency department for three?”
“On second thoughts, I’ll poison you myself.”
Yang Yang laughs and shakes his head, grinning a little. “So, we had that thing on tonight.”
“Yeah, we’re meeting up with Xiaojun, Winwin and Hendery. They get back from China tonight from their studies. The guys are all meeting us there.”
“At the restaurant near the hospital.”
“Nope, we are not going there.”
“The guys would understand , Ten. We all want you to see someone.”
“All of you guys want to see me with someone?”
“... A number of us.”
Ten scoffs, sighing a little. “You’re all ridiculous. I might not even text this guy.”
“He’s a doctor , that must fit your standards.”
“What standards?”
“Ten, you went on three dates and nitpicked absolutely everything about the guys. Remember Jongin? You said his name wasn’t good enough.”
“I did not say his name wasn’t good enough! I said it was weird because my best friend’s dad is called Jongin. It would feel too weird. It was not a standard thing.”
“...Taeyong.”
“Taeyong was not about my standards. I love Taeyong, but he’s more like a brother to me. Both of us agreed it felt weird.”
They pause at the set of traffic lights, pressing the button to cross the road.
“And what about Lucas?”
“I was moving back to South Korea, he did not want a long distance relationship, again, not a standard thing. My only standards are a decent personality.”
“Uh huh, remember Sungho?”
“That guy that was a total creep?”
“That was a standard thing.”
Ten raises an eyebrow at Yang Yang. “Sungho stalked me home to my apartment building and watched for whenever I left and would follow me around all day for a week. That was not a standard thing, that was a, the dude is a stalker thing.”
Yang Yang stares. "You didn't tell us that."
"Jisung was having that issue with his knee. You guys didn't need me adding on to the drama. It got sorted."
"I apologise for that. I didn't know."
Ten shrugs. "It's alright. No sweat."
Yang Yang shrugs. “Alright, fine. You don’t have standards apparently.”
“I do not have strict dating standards like you are making out.”
Yang Yang giggles as the lights change, walking out over the crossing. “Alright, fine. I give up. But at least promise to try with this doctor?”
Ten sighs and shrugs a little, stopping when they get to the other side of the road. “I will consider it. Fair enough?”
Yang Yang laughs and nods, grinning. “I want front row seats to the wedding. I better be the best man.”
Ten scoffs and steps forward, wrapping an arm around Yang Yang. “I’ll see you tonight. I have to get ready and feed the cats.”
Yang Yang gives Ten a squeeze and smiles. “See you tonight. Don’t forget, we start at eight.”
“And it’s five so I should get home and shower, wrap up some work stuff.”
“I should get to my appointment then go get ready.” Yang Yang steps back, waving and Ten snorts.
“Don’t faint!”
“Ha ha! Very funny. Text him!”
“I said I’d think about it!” Ten shakes his head, heading to his apartment building.
