Work Text:
I was only five years old when you and I met.
We were the kindest blonde kids on the playground, smiling at everyone and playing mom and dad. Madge was our daughter, and we would lecture her about not eating her veggies. We had fun back then, but we had to grow up.
Then you met Katniss Everdeen. We all heard her sing once, next to her father, passing by the street.
You have loved her since.
I was young but not dumb. Not at all, no matter how everybody thought about little Delly. And my so-called little head could tell how much of a goner you were.
I would tell everyone that we were brother and sister because I just knew you didn't see me as anything else. But I was fine, with just looking at your smile.
Then, when we turned sixteen, you and Katniss started dating. It hurt, I won't lie. But once again, if you were happy, so was I. People around you were shocked by the teen pregnancy that came after that, but not me. I was by your side no matter what.
Now I am nineteen years old.
I admire you so much as I watch you get work, college, and being a parent so balanced.
We are studying for a test at your home, and you are so concentrated on the paper in your hands that you don't catch up on me staring at you. I am such a sucker for your deep blue eyes, now surrounded by dark circles. But still, you are so beautiful.
Baby Dandelion starts complaining from her crib, she woke up from her nap, and since Katniss it's at work, you are the only one taking care of the baby today.
"Short break?" You ask me, but not really waiting for a reply. You pick your little girl, whom you are totally in love with, and kiss her little frown. I know this is the place you belong to now.
But for a moment, I dare to fantasize you don't have a kid, and you don't have to work. You're focused on your education.
We are in a university dorm, breaking the rules because girls are not allowed in boys' dorms after curfew. But you don't care because you want me here with you tonight.
"Leave that," you tell me as I try to understand my Philosophy paper due Tuesday. "I have something to tell you."
"What is it?" I am suddenly worried, but it's alright because you look relaxed.
"Katniss and I broke up," you say calmly. I am confused because you two seemed happy together.
"What happened?"
"Things just weren't really working out," you reply.
And suddenly, you are touching my knee, cherishing the skin above with your thumb.
You look right into my eyes, and I lean forward, ready for this moment. Our lips meet and you taste sugary. My semester's Literature project it's on the floor, and you are taking off your shirt while I pull out my peach dress.
You make me yours, and for the first time in life, you're finally mine. And that night, you told me you loved me as you left bite marks on the delicate skin on my neck.
At least that's what you did in my imagination.
