Work Header

Crystal Lake

Summary:

Sam proposes a visit to the local lake. Castiel worries about his boys swimming capabilities - wet wings are heavy, after all.

Notes:

Dont be fooled, this is simply world building. I'm sorry it took me so long to get out!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"Angels cant swim," Castiel starts, eyes boring into Sam,

"He's half human," She proposes, "I can teach him how to swim. You dont have to jump in, too," A small smile, head tilted.

Jack, for his part, was running around packing his things in his little rucksack. A single sock, three (deflated) floaties, two pairs of shorts and no shirts... well, at least he's trying.

"His wings will weigh him down," Castiels eyes are hard, "He wont be able to swim."

"Then I'll hold him," Sam sighs, "He's excited, look!" She gestures to their son, goggles perched on his head.

"Only because you already told him," He groans, "Parenting, communication? You know? Kind of important, Sam."

"Where did he even get those, Anyway?" Cas asks, frowning,

"Bath time shenanigans. Irrelevant." She sighs a little, "I didnt see you having this much of a problem with it. I didnt think it needed a discussion,"

Breathing hard through his nose, eyes closed, "Fine. If he drowns I will rain hellfire upon you."

"Please dont have a domestic in the kitchen," Dean pipes up, smiling sheepishly, "Are you guys going?"

"Yes," Sam nods, "We'll be going tonight."

Dean nods, hesitating for a second, "Can I come?"

Sam intercepts before Cas can open his mouth, "Of course you can, Dean. I just didnt think you liked lakes much, thats all."

"You're going to the clear one, aren't you? I like being able to see the bottom," He shrugs

"Yeah, course. Crystal clear waters." She smiles, looking around for Jack who was very much too quiet.

"Crystal Lake," Dean grins, "Eh, Sammy?"

"If Jason shows up I'm sacrificing you." The threat is lighthearted, and she's darting off at the sound of a crash and the start of a wail.

Dean jolts at it, looking after Sam curiously, "She got it?"

"She's always got it," Castiel murmurs, "You do want to come and you're not just coming to stake your claim over Sam?"

Dean frowns, looking offended, "Course not. I'm just... trying to incorporate myself." He shrugged, watching as Sam half carries a crying Jack into the kitchen.

"Da?" He whines, reaching for Castiel, who actually picks him up.

"God, teach me how to do that," She sighs, "He's fine, just scared. Toppled a shelf."

Castiel nods, holding Jack, "Oh, my little bumble bee," He sing-songed, "Whatever happened?"

Jack launches into his tearful explanation, phrases and gestures only a parent would understand, as Sam calls Dean to follow her out.

Good thing, too, because that jealousy was burning deep in his chest once again. He didnt know why and it was really starting to annoy him.

"You okay?" She asks, "Wanna help me pack up?"

"Yeah," He nods, following her lead, ignoring the first question.

The day progresses as normal, until evening. Castiel had already promised to drive, but Dean was having second thoughts, wanting to take Baby.

"Sit up front with Cas if you don't want to sit with Jack," Sam sighed, buckling her boy into his seat.

"No," Dean shook his head, "I dont mind about Jack. I just like my car," He struggled to explain, agitated.

"Three minutes, Dean." She started, "Choose where you want to sit in Cas' car or stay here."

When it became clear he wasnt making a decision, "Do I need to count?" A raised brow, "One,"

Dean darted around to his side of the car slipping in next to Jack.

"Works every time." She sighs, giving Cas a smile over the hood of the car, "Do you think it'd work on you?"

"Absolutely not."

They drive through the night and book a hotel - yes, a hotel! Dean couldn't believe it either.

The rooms nice. Two kings, and Dean half wonders how all three of them are going to fit into one bed. But, then, he supposes, they manage it at home.

He watches, jealous as they go through their night routine and fall asleep. He matches the last part, at least, and the next day finds them at the lake.

Jack didn't drown, thankfully, and instead had great fun. Didnt quite pick up swimming, though.

Notes:

I ran out of energy at the end and its been in the drafts for a while. So this is what you get. Does anyone have any requests or should I just get going with the storyline?
