Work Text:
Jiu waited, and waited, and waited.
Now sitting cross legged on the rooftop, her eyes drooping in boredom, she rested her weight on her hands behind her.
It's not like she was alone though, so when she got bored of looking up at the stars, she spoke.
"Hey, you!"
"Huh?"
In a position like hers, the hero's sidekick -she remembers her name was Tami, or something- looked at her confused. They've been like this for the better part of two hours, without saying a word yet, so this was a surprise.
"Where's Yooh?"
And for those two hours or so, they've been waiting for the Hero, so that they could finally start the fight.
"She's on vacation, you didn't know?"
Or maybe only Jiu was waiting.
"What?? Why didn't you tell me?!?" She sat more correctly now, in disbelief. Not that it surprised her that Bami hadn't said anything, but that her nemesis didn't reschedule or at least have the decency to text her. Gosh, people have really lost respect for each other these days.
"You looked comfortable, why would I?"
Jiu didn't have to take this. She couldn't. So, with as much pride as she could gather, she got up and left. Stomping on every rooftop and, once on the street, kicking every pebble, can or random piece of anything that she could. Unbelievable. Yoohyeon didn't even say anything. It's not like they don't have each other's number, for fucks sake.
...Or maybe she deleted her number?
No. She wouldn't.
Right?
The casual scream of horror civilians screeched was enough to bring her back from hurtful thoughts, and so she continued her annoyed path to the apartment she knew so well.
She didn't even bother knocking on the door, screw all signs of respect. Screw her.
Barging in her nemesis' home, she didn't wait for any complaint. This needed to be resolved urgently. How dare she stand her up.
"HEY WHAT ARE YOU- Oh fuck, you look like shit."
Yoohyeon was lying on her couch, pajamas on, eating ice cream straight from the pot. And not only her, the whole room was a mess.
The cushions were all on the floor, the sink had dirty dishes accumulated for what looked like weeks, random pieces of clothing could be found all around the place and even Pie's dog food plate was empty. A window was open, letting the cold wind in -Yoohyeon had a blanket but wasn't even using it properly- and the tv was on with the muppets at full volume.
"...What do you want?"
Minji didn't answer. This was disgusting, even for her -a so called villain.
She closed the door and walked to the window, closing it too. She put food for Pie and petted her, to which she wagged her tail excitedly. Maybe she missed her.
Lowering the tv's volume, she finally looked at Yoohyeon, who just seemed annoyed at her presence, who was now picking up the clothes she could find on the floor.
"What is all this? Stopped not only taking care of the city but also of your life and house?"
"Leave me alone, i'm tired"
Now that she heard correctly, Yoohyeon's voice was off. It lacked the usual sass that she used in their fights, of course, but there was something more. Something that told her 'tired' was not the correct word.
So she stopped. She left the clothes she had picked up on the table, and looked at her. Actually looked.
There were bags under her eyes, with colors closer to purple than what they should, and angry lines on her frown, between her eyebrows and to the sides of her mouth.
Maybe she had lost a fight? It's not something unheard of -even though if it happened, Minji would be the first one to know, but that's not something she's proud of- and if that was the case, she would only need to win another one to bring her confidence back up.
And who would be better to beat up than her archnemesis?
She stole the ice cream from Yoohyeon's hands and put it on the coffee table, and using the little spoon as a sword of sorts, adopted a battle position. Feet separated, knees slightly bent and one hand over her chest, she pointed her weapon at the sprawled girl, and grinned.
Yoohyeon did not move a muscle. Not even a little smile.
What is worse, she then sighed and rolled her eyes, now staring at the ceiling.
Now, Minji was baffled. Perplex, stumped, frustrated out of her mind. She dropped the spoon and her jaw, and almost bore holes on Yoohyeon's unfaced face, frowning.
"WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?" Infuriated, she wildly moved her hands, forgetting her battle position to just look like an angry Sim.
And Yoohyeon was just about to answer "i'm tired" again, but stopped herself, because Minji wasn't done speaking.
In a very small, worried voice, almost as tiny as Pie's toe beans, she asked:
"How can I help you?"
And it's not that Yoohyeon felt sorry or -gods forbid- still has feelings for her ex. Absolutely not. And it's not like her soul broke a little at hearing that voice. But she isn't heartless, she's still supposed to be the hero, and she's not gonna let someone cry at her apartment, much less because of her. Not again.
So she rolled on her back and stretched a little, to be able to see Minji in the eye (she did 𝘯𝘰𝘵 broke even more seeing her sad bunny face) and scooted on the couch, inviting her to sit together. Minji obeyed, and stared at Yoohyeon until she spoke.
"There's nothing wrong, I promise. I'm just- i'm a little tired, and needed a break" she smiled, but it didn't seem to completely convince the villain.
"Did you know that heroes don't even get paid a lot?" She tried a different approach. "Like, I would win more if I worked in retail or as a cashier at the convenience store rather than risking my life for the world."
Now, that worked a little more. Minji laughed, and wasn't pouting anymore, that was good.
"And my health insurance is terrible! I spoke to my lawyer and she was like, just holding her head with her elbows on the table, it's insane!" And Minji's laugh has always been contagious, so now Yoohyeon was also laughing
Pie had sat on Minji's lap now, and stared at Yoohyeon for a while, with unspoken statements that she chose to ignore. There's no need to think about that.
"Last week I was fighting Handong in China, and when i got to the company with a broken finger they were like 'No, that wasn't in Korea, we can't help you'!!" Yoohyeon needed to breathe, she forgot again. It always seems to happen when she's with- nope.
"What?? What did you do??" Minji grinned, her worry long forgotten now.
"I had to go to a civilian hospital!! Do you have any idea how they were staring at me?!?"
And she was throwing her head back to laugh, and Yoohyeon's soul repaired a little at it. With a sigh, she decided she had proven her point.
"So I told them i wanted vacations, and left before they said no"
"Makes sense. Do you have any plans?"
"Mostly just watch shitty shows on tv, like..." She looked at the silent tv, and tried to guess. "...Hannah Montana?"
Minji exhaled a "pff" and moved Pie to the side, so she could get up. Yoohyeon heard a mumble about "how did you even find that?" As she picked the spoon from the floor, walked to the kitchen and got two clean ones.
Coming back to the couch, she found something in the back, against the wall. It was actually the only piece of clothing that looked clean and folded. A pink hoodie she remembered too well...
'So she kept it.'
She sat again, with the ice cream in the middle of them.
"I can't believe I waited two hours for you with Sami, and all the time you were depression-binging Hannah Montana."
"You mean Dami?"
"Sure"
"Give me the controller, i can't hear shit"
And with higher volume, the rest of the night was spent between blonde wigs, ice cream, and maybe way too many thoughts about the past.
Maybe Fami still waited on the roof.
