What the hell?

Summary:

Major Kang runs into Ijin in an unexpected place

Notes:

Does Major Kang know that Ijin is Jiye's bodyguard? Has that been brought up? I haven't seen it on Webtoons, so here is my take! Let me know if I just totally missed something. Or don't, and take this as an AU. Either way, enjoy!

Work Text:

What the actual hell.

He had just begun a five-day reprieve and had plans to see three people in that time: his fiancé, his mother, and the former mercenary he now considered his adopted little brother. However, it was looking like a day to kill two birds with one stone as Major Hamchan Kang stared down a blushing, wide-eyed Ijin Yu standing at attention outside the office door of his bride-to-be.

Hamchan made his way over, noting how very hard the younger man was trying NOT to make eye contact. When he was only a few feet away, Ijin finally looked up for a moment before speaking.

“Hello, Major Kang,” he spoke quietly. Hamchan crossed his arms high on his chest and glanced over at Jiye’s head of security who was side-eying him as well, clearly curious how a high school student could have relations with a high-ranking miliary officer. Hamchan turned his attention back to his young friend.

“Ijin. Fancy seeing you here.” He did little to hide the aggravation in his tone or posture. Ijin just looked ahead as his face lit up in a brighter shade of red.

“Wanna tell me what you’re doing here, kid?”

“I’m on security detail with Miss Sin today, sir.”

“I can see that. Wanna tell me WHY?” He turned his head when he heard the man to his right clear his throat. “Ijin is in practical training with the S.W. security team, Major.”

“Is that a fact?” Hamchan couldn’t help but smirk when he saw Ijin’s blush had made it all the way to the tips of his ears.

“Yes, Major. He is a valued member of the team,” the head of security said with a smile and a nod, clearly thinking he was helping the young man out with his praise. Hamchan let out a chuckle.

Yeah, I bet he is.

He was about to say these words when the double doors swung open to reveal a smiling Jiye Sin covered head to toe in silk and pearls. Hamchan straightened himself immediately and put on the big goofy grin he always had when he first laid eyes on her. She really was a vision. And the way she commanded a room when she entered it—it DID things to him. He felt his face heat up as she swayed towards him, grabbed his chin and pulled his face to hers.

“Oh there’s my handsome fiancé!” she sang before pecking him softly on the cheek. “It’s so nice to see you, Hamchan.”

“I-i-it’s nice to see you as well, ha ha!” he sputtered out, momentarily forgetting the silver-haired teen. Jiye’s hand didn’t leave his chin as she continued. “Let’s go chat in my office, darling. I’m afraid our visit might be a bit short today,”. She glanced over at Ijin. “…and as you can see, we have much to discuss.”

Ijin’s eyes widened as he stared at the ground. Hamchan could see he was sweating.

“Yes it does,” he responded, placing his hand on the small of her back to push her back towards the office.

Once behind closed doors, Hamchan looked at his fiancé apprehensively as she walked to the velvet couches in the corner of the room. Without turning to look at him, she spoke.

“Though I am curious, you don’t have to tell me how you know each other...” She sat down and crossed her legs before she continued. “...but I didn’t want to keep it from you that he works for me now. I know you didn’t want me looking into him, but you should know he came to me. I think grandfather invited him after he helped rescue my cousin, Yeo—” she stopped when she saw the utter confusion plastered across her fiance’s face. He clearly needed a moment to catch up.

And she was right.

He came to her?! Rescued her cousinHER GRANDFATHER INVITED HIM?!

Hamchan ran a hand down his face. He wasn’t sure how to feel apart from perplexed. Hurt? Betrayed? Annoyed? Proud??

..said he was free after 7, psh.

He cleared his throat. “How do you know… when did—what has he told you?” Jiye smirked.

“Not a lot. He’s not much of a talker, is he?” She stood and approached him, placing her hands on his collar, her focus on straightening it as she continued. “He rescued me too, you know? I was kidnapped a few weeks ago, and he wasn’t even on duty. He incapacitated nine men, Hamchan. Nine. With a head wound, a broke rib and detached fingernails.” Her eyes met his. “I don’t need to know why he can do what he can do, but I know I will be well-protected with him around. I hope you can agree with me, Hamchan.”

He opened and closed his mouth a few times before pursing his lips and giving a quick nod.   Damn she was persuasive!     She smiled in return and reached for his hand. “Come sit, darling, and tell me how you’ve been.”

Hamchan followed her with heavy feet, his mind on the silver-haired teen behind the door. He was going to run that kid through the ringer tonight. He smiled as he thought of the kid’s red-tipped ears.

See you at 7, kid
