Work Text:
You really couldn’t recall how you’d gotten yourself in this situation.
It was very late in the night (or maybe the early hours of the morning, you couldn’t tell), and in a haze you had somehow found yourself in the presence of a certain lunar animatronic, attempting to find some company in your moment of restlessness.
By now he was aware that your sleep schedule was… not well maintained, let’s say. He could feign annoyance about it all day (or rather, all night), but he was concerned for you. He truly did care, and he wanted to help you if he could. And you could feel those unspoken intentions in the way that he acted.
So here you were, sitting in front of him, staring up blankly and waiting. For what, you weren’t sure.
“Are you going to stare at me all night?” Moon asked with a low growl in his voice. You opted not to speak, instead offering a shrug in response; you couldn’t find the energy to form words at the moment. Moon huffed and turned away, but even then he could feel your gaze boring into him, studying him. He was still not used to this kind of attention, and thus decided that he needed to do something about it.
Moon plucked off the cap that sat atop his head, looking at you for a moment before grumbling under his breath and shoving it unceremoniously onto your own head, far enough to cover your eyes. You lifted the hat enough to look at him with furrowed brows, waiting for an explanation for this odd (and somewhat rude) behavior. He rolled his eyes and looked off to the side, praying that you couldn’t see his blush in the dark.
“Lavender scented,” he grumbled. “It’ll help you sleep.”
Looking down at the fabric that trailed from your head, you hesitantly brought some of it close to your nose and sniffed. And wow, he wasn’t kidding; that was a strong lavender smell. You also detected a hint of something you couldn’t quite put your finger on. Something sweet. You opened your mouth to say something but found yourself yawning instead. You looked back up to him blearily, only to find that he’d been watching you with a soft gaze. It was only glimpsed for about a millisecond though, because he was once more averting his eyes very quickly with a blush that he’s sure was making his face glow in the dark now.
(He really liked the way his hat looked on you. He would sooner be decommissioned than admit that to anyone, however.)
“You don’t need to say anything. Just go to sleep already,” he commanded. You didn’t need to be told twice.
But you decided you wanted to get comfy first.
Wordlessly, you crawled into the space between his crisscrossed legs, leaned yourself against his frame and closed your eyes. As Moon gawked at you for a solid couple of seconds, you blindly reached out for one of his hands, trapping it in your embrace once you caught hold of it. His fans were working overdrive as you laced your comparatively tiny fingers with his larger ones, before your breath fell into an even rhythm and your muscles un-tensed, now fully relaxed against his body.
In this moment, it was glaringly obvious how much larger he was compared to you; he could break you at any moment if he so chose, and you knew this. And yet... you never once feared him, or shied away from him. You were so trusting right from the start. So pure and innocent and... good.
You were so precious to him.
God, Sun was going crazy about this in their shared headspace, babbling on about how cute you were and how much he wished he was the one holding you right now, begging to be let out to do so.
‘Cut it out, you absolute sap,’ Moon growled at his solar counterpart in his mind.
‘But Moony, you just thought it yourself! They’re precious to you, too!’ Sun retorted.
“…..”
After sitting gobsmacked at those words for a few moments, Moon tentatively raised his free arm to hold you close and rub your head through his cap. Sighing contentedly, you unconsciously nuzzled yourself closer to his touch.
Yeah… maybe it wasn’t so hard to admit after all.
