Work Text:
In all their years of living, Alex never thought someone would propose to them. Not genuinely at least.
If they ever met someone willing to accept the mass murder and villainy, they’d always expected they’d end up being the on to propose. They were an intimidating person; they would’ve thought they’d be too intimidating for someone to propose to. Especially after their whole ‘red wedding’ with the heroes thing.
And then came along Morgan. Absolutely perfect Morgan who just blurted it out one day in the middle of them watching a movie, for no reason other than tax benefits and insurance scams.
It should be offensive, and it probably would’ve been for anyone else, but for Alex goddamn, they realized they’d expect no less from Morgan. After all he was impulsive and enjoyed schemes like that. And it wasn’t like Alex didn’t know they loved them; they didn’t need to talk about it for it to be known.
And so, Alex responded with a yes without hesitation. And then following up with some questions, you know, because after all it was pretty spur of the moment and even if it was Morgan Alex could afford to be a little skeptical of things like this.
But they’d been serious when asking, and Alex was sure they’d never regret saying yes a day in their life as long as they got to spend it with Morgan.
And so that was how they found themselves planning a wedding, or multiple really, you know, just because having more than one could benefit them.
They signed the actual papers and such in a more private setting, just them, an officiant, and Ohio and Barnaby. Just so they could get the legal stuff done and over with. But they still wanted to have a proper ceremony for their friends and family because of course if Alex’s parents found out they got married without them, well it didn’t matter if they were S tier their mother would certainly kill them.
Alex ended up planning the majority of the ceremony. For one, they’d done this before and knew what all went into making a good wedding. Two, their mother wanted to help once she found out. And three, Morgan was still pulling heists and schemes and had poor time management between that and keeping himself healthy so Alex would much rather them not have to worry about this too. Though of course they did get Morgan’s input on the important things.
They’d settled on red, black, and white for a theme, because it seemed a perfect mix of them, villainy, and a little smidge of tradition. Neither were exactly traditional but hey, they were essentially putting on a show so why not? Alex had decided on wearing a dress while Morgan preferred a suit, they were each taken shopping separately though, obviously. Alex went with their mother and dragged Ohio alone, because even if he was wearing a suit they still needed their best man’s opinion on such things.
Morgan went with Diego and Barnaby for the same reasons, but also because Diego planned on getting a new suit to wear as well after Morgan was all but forced to make her a best woman next to Barnaby being his best man.
By the time the actual wedding came, Alex would’ve thought they’d be ready. It was just for tax benefits and schemes, but it didn’t mean there weren’t some feelings involved still. Morgan and them did love each other, they’d been partners for years now. Technically nothing about their partnership would change because of this, besides maybe having to deal with the possibility of Morgan becoming more of a target, but still. And Alex had even planned for some comedy by placing Chad next to Rex in the arrangements.
But they still found themselves pacing back and forth, fidgeting anxiously while waiting for their cue to walk on out down the isle.
“Chill, man, it’ll be fine.” Ohio was trying to soothe their nerves while also keeping a safe distance in case nervous-Alex included any power outbursts. “You and Morgan are great for each other. And it’s not like anyone can really succeed in crashing this since you’re, well, you know, you and all. I don’t know what you’re worried about.” He hummed and shrugged.
“You mean to tell me you weren’t a mess when you and Barnaby got married? Cause I was there, friend, you just about passed out when you saw him come through the doors.” Alex snorted. Thinking back to that wedding helped distract them a bit. But really Ohio was right. They didn’t have any reason to be so nervous. They never got nervous!
“Oh, no I was an absolute wreck.” Ohio snorted, not even bothering to deny that one. “But it was mostly because Barnaby’s family intimidates me- I was really excited to be marrying him though, I didn’t have any doubts that it was right. And plus, the honeymoon made up for it so-“
Alex scoffed and rolled their eyes at that. “Mhm, right.” They muttered and were quite a moment before letting out a lough sigh. “This is ridiculous! I-“ They would’ve gone off on a tangent, but their phone had dinged mid sentence and any train of thought was immediately cut off upon looking at their phone.
“Oh no, what is it? What’s wrong?” As far as Ohio was concerned, the only thing that could make Alex cut off like that was something bad happening. Specifically, something happening to Morgan or Alex’s family.
“… Morgan looks good in red…” Alex muttered, staring at the screen. It was in fact a message from Morgan, saying ‘Just so you don’t get too blown away and freeze 😉’ paired with a selfie of him in his suit. They were wearing a red shirt with a white tie and black everything else, save for a white pocket square Alex knew must have been Diego’s doing.
“Don’t even start with the ‘tradition, can’t see each other before the wedding’ thing, goddamn-“ Alex added soon after seeing Ohio’s mouth opening. Because damn if Morgan hadn’t been right. If their first time seeing them looking like that was at their when they walked down the isle they definitely would’ve looked like a fool (they have absolutely no poker face). Their best friend was hot.
By the time they recovered from that their father had also popped into the room and it was time to get things going. You know maybe it was a good thing Alex had no poker face because the look of awe they had looking at Morgan was 100% real even if it was a marriage of convenience. They really loved him, he was their best friend, and goddamn they didn’t have to be fully together to spend their lives together and Alex was living for that thought.
Alex must have spaced out for a moment or so because next thing they knew Morgan was in front of them, grinning, and taking their hands in his.
“I’m not just saying this because it’s out wedding day, you look beautiful in that.” Morgan smiled and goddamn why did their best friend have to be so damn nice? Because now Alex was definitely grinning like an idiot and kind of smirking because of course they looked beautiful.
“Well, ah, thank you. You look very handsome too.” Alex smiled. Okay it wasn’t as smooth as they’d been planning for but hell it’s not like anyone could hear them right now besides Morgan. And they didn’t have to be smooth with Morgan.
The officiant started on with the speech, Alex was only half listening. They were just thinking about how the hell they ended up here. Meeting Morgan sure had put their life into a tailspin, that was for sure, but it wasn’t an unwelcome one.
They were struck with just how much they’d experienced only because of Morgan. They’d always been able to have anything they want, just by the excessive amounts of money they had or their powers. So, meeting Morgan who was so ordinary but so extraordinary was fascinating. He’d gotten where he was by fighting for it, it hadn’t come easy, and even though they could do a lot more than they do, he does it just because he enjoys doing the things he does. Complicated heists and schemes and inventing/engineering various things. Alex had always just snapped whatever he wanted to do done and moved on. Hell, they didn’t even know how to drive until Morgan taught them that.
They’d always just been the terrifying S tier villain to everyone but their parents. Morgan was the first person to know who they were and still just see them as Alex who was afraid of the toaster. Morgan put so much trust in them even though they could kill them at any second. Morgan who even when they left for months without a word still accepted them back into his life only after a few choice words and a promise. Morgan who proposed marriage to them for fucking tax benefits-
Alex was suddenly snapped back to reality by realizing it was about to be their turn to speak and started to pay more attention to the officiant than having all their braincells centered on Morgan.
“Do you, Alex Stewart, take Morgan Sterling, to be your lawfully wedded partner, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do you part?”
Alex scoffed, “Like a little thing like death will stop me.” They grinned and Morgan chuckled a little, rolling his eyes. “But I definitely do.” They slipped the ring onto Morgan’s finger, and they felt like their body was surrounded by static.
“And do you, Morgan Sterling, take Alex Stewart, to be your lawfully wedded partner, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do you part?”
“Fuck yeah!” Morgan didn’t even hesitate before giving an enthusiastic response that was just so Morgan that Alex had to laugh a little, smiling feeling the cool metal slip onto their own finger.
“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you married. You may kiss your spouse.”
Now, it wasn’t like they hadn’t kissed before, but usually that had involved kissing for cover on a stakeout or something like that. They’d talked about it and that they were both fine with doing it again for the wedding, it would look weird if they didn’t after all. But Alex was 100% not expecting for Morgan to grab them by the waist, spin them into a dip and kiss them.
Alex had to smile at that because being extra was usually their thing, but nonetheless they put their arms around Morgan’s neck as their guests gave various cheers.
“Woo indeed.” Morgan smirked at Alex after breaking away and Alex burst out laughing at the reminder of that particular heist.
“Oh, you little shit!” They chuckled, shaking their head, looking down a bit at Morgan now they were on both feet and back to their usual height difference.
“Hey! You’re the one that agreed to marry me.” Morgan laughed, smiling just as big as Alex. Yes, yes they did do that. And that was not something they were ever going to regret, even if the marriage was for tax benefits and insurance fraud schemes.
