Shadowy Dreams

Summary:

Sugar Glass ponders on the past and questions what she should do before hearing a someone who looks just like her...

Notes:

This is based on the shadow cookie that is found in Sugar Glass cookie's trail. I want to play around with the concept since Devsisters didn't do anything with it.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Looking at the bright stained glass shining through the greenhouse, Sugar Glass gazed at the outside world. She always wondered what the outside world looked like and if she ever would gather the courage to step out. It seems like a beautiful place to see. However, there were a few things holding her back, Sugar Glass saw the world as a scary place through memories that show her how violent, cruel, and dangerous it can be.

Not to mention she was the safeguard of memories and lived her entire life in the greenhouse. It was a beautiful place full of life and natural beauty. The walls were mostly made of bright stained glass, creating illustrations of events and works of art. It was truly a sight to behold. She lived in a place this important since it was created by the wizard to archive these important events.

Now, the greenhouse is in ruins. Sugar Glass struggles to fix it by herself, leading her to slowly watch the place she called home collapse. She couldn’t handle the pressure, the stress, and the struggle of maintaining the place. She looked through the labyrinth for memories to repair it, trying methods to fix the ruins, anything to save it, No luck.

Sugar Glass hoped one day someone can help save this from destruction. Looking up at the full moon through shattered glass revealing the sky, she begged whoever was there to help: No one came to help. As time passed, those past thoughts circulated in her head as she stared at the stained glass and questions appeared in her head. Should she continue trying to fix the place or just give up?

She had enough of dealing with all of this. There is no sign of the greenhouse being fixed any time soon. She is too weak to save it. What kind of guardian lets the area they are meant to protect in shambles? She began to doubt herself, thinking she was unable to do anything to help. She blamed herself for not being good enough to fix it. She reminds herself that the greenhouse lay in waste because it was all her fault.

No one was there to help. Sugar Glass never interacted with a cookie before. She saw other cookies in memories, but never met one with her own eyes. She felt lonely for so long since the day she was created by the wizards. The wizards just left her and when she woken that greenhouse was in terrible condition. She sometimes wonders when her creators are going to come back and help.

She sighed wondering when she would get her life together. The room was quiet, no words were said. Only the sounds of her breathing. Then she heard something shatter on the ground. This caused Sugar Glass to jump. She is so used to silence any noise no matter how loud it was would scare her. She turned to see what happened; A glass pane was broken. Normally this wouldn't surprise her since the whole glass pane would fall over and crack, but this is different.

One close look made her realize the glass was fractured by someone. The whole glass pane was still intact, but in the center of it was broken. She looked around to see if anyone was there: No one was there. Sugar Glass began to panic thinking someone was there. Who knows what they will do.

Then a voice spoke,

"Must be quite lonely there." It giggled loudly. Sugar Glass double check to see who is there before looking up to see it. It looked like her, but the only difference was that it was purple. It had a huge grin on its face. Sugar Glass watched as she floated down from the sky to be at her level except a bit higher.

" Who are you?" Sugar Glass said. The shadow figure laughed out loud at how naive she was. Sugar was starting to become anxious, wondering what's going on.

" Isn't it obvious!" The voice chuckled, " I am you! Damn you are dumber than you look." Sugar Glass didn't understand what it said, how can it be her? That doesn't sound real at all.

" How can you be me? I don't understand…" She asked the cookie in front of her. The shadow looked at her dead in the eyes. Sugar Glass was frightened by its gaze.

" I have been watching you for quite some time. I know like the back of my wing, " It said as it came closer to Sugar Glass. Her wings fluttered as she stepped back trying to keep her distance from it, but ultimately was blocked by the wall. The shadow grabbed her by the neck, " Listen here, one day you will understand what I mean by that you stupid cookie."

Suddenly, Sugar Glass woke up. She was all sweaty and her heart was beating fast. She looked around her surroundings then let out a sigh of relief seeing she was in her bedroom and no shadowy cookie was there. However she still felt the grasp on her neck. It felt so real. She didn't feel comfortable sleeping again.

She got up from her bed and looked around the hallways just to be safe. It was empty, only broken glass panes that fell, empty rooms with nothing in, even the confusing labyrinth was empty. Then she stepped into the garden, flowers wilting again. Sugar Glass went over and sat down in front of the wilted flowers and quietly began to cry. Her heart cannot stand to see flowers die like this because she couldn't fix the greenhouse.

"The flowers are wilting again." She whispered. Her voice echoed throughout the empty greenhouse. As she was grieving over the loss of wilted flowers, she heard a voice.

"Oh? OH! There's a cookie inside?!" It yells out. Sugar Glass flinched when she heard the voice. She became scared thinking it was that same cookie she saw in her dream, but it sounded different. It might be a different cookie.

She slowly fluttered to where she heard the voice and peaked her head through the large hole in the shattered door. A cookie was hovering a few inches off the ground and the back facing towards her. The cookie looked like a bee.

The cookie was wearing a black tank top with a fluffy rim wrapped around the neck, creamish color baggy pants, orange and black shoes, a black beanie, and something wrapped was below it but Sugar Glass couldn't make out what it was. The wings were moving really fast making it difficult to see what color it was.

The cookie was holding a staff that looked like a honeydripper cased in a translucent orange crystal with a yellow sharp crystal sticking out of it. The cookie turned and saw her, "Hey!"

She flinched as the cookie saw her. Her instinct reaction was to fall down to the ground and hope the cookie didn't hurt her. Thought circulating in her head what might happen to her. None of them were positive. The cookie flew towards her, "Hey? Hey?!"

She looked up at the cookie who was right in front of her on her level. Now she got a better look. The cookie was wearing goggles shaped like honeycombs, and the eyes a both a dark and bright orange color. She started to move backwards as the cookie got closer, then asked, "Is this your home?"

Sugar Glass was surprised that the cookie asked that question. She was expecting something much worse. She didn't know how to respond. The bee looked at her with confusion as she was deep in her thoughts. The bee cleared his throat to get her attention.

"Oh… Hello…" Sugar Glass snapped back into reality. She looked at the cookie who was waiting for an answer from the question that was asked.

"Yes, I live there, in a manner of speaking." Sugar Glass answered back. There was a moment of silence as the two of them looked at each other. Sugar Glass was silencing panicking on what to do. Nothing like this has ever happened before.

"Who might you be?" Sugar Glass asked the bee in front of her. She didn't know what to say, so she should ask a question to at least know who this cookie is. The bee got up from the ground and offered to pull her up. Sugar Glass looked at the cookie's hand for a few seconds before accepting his offer.

"My name is Amber Sugar Cookie."

Notes:

This is my first time posting a fanfic so I do hope this is a good start. Also if there is any grammatical errors please let me know. I may do more with this concept in the future since Shadow Glass (let's just call her that) isn't really utilize in the fandom.
