Work Text:
March 2024
Max and Luna quickly made their way over to the main elevator bank in the lobby of New Amsterdam. They had just stopped at the gift shop to get a special present for the twins and Luna had a hard time deciding as she wanted the perfect gifts for her new little siblings finally deciding on two medium sized teddy bears, one purple and one pink.
“Come on Lu.” Max said as he tried to catch his breath and pressed number 4 which was where the maternity floor was located. The elevator doors closed and he breathed a sigh of relief. Max reached for his iPhone in the back pocket of his jeans to send Helen a quick text.
Max:
See you soon! Love you 😘
He saw three dots to indicate Helen was typing and he started to feel excited. Him and Helen could hardly wait for Luna to meet her new siblings! They could hardly believe this moment was finally here!
Helen:
Can hardly wait! The littles are finally asleep 😴 miss you and my little girl 😘 love you more 😍
As soon as they finally reached the maternity floor Max and Luna exited the elevator and made their way over to the nursing desk which was just past a set of doors. Max and Luna were about to walk right into Helen’s room when a nurse stopped him. “Um sorry sir.” A female nurse lightly tapped him on the shoulder and he turned around, a surprised look on his face. “Yes?” Max asked her. Most people knew him around this hospital seeing as he is the medical director.
“I need you to sign it at the desk. What patient are you here to visit?”
“I’m Max Goodwin, medical director of this hospital and I’m here to see my wife Helen Sharpe who is also head of Oncology as of a few months ago again.”
“My apologies. I just started here a couple of days ago and I’m still learning a lot. Sorry.”
“Don’t worry about it. Most of the staff know me and so it’s been easy to just come and visit my wife. I should warn you now though Leslie.” Max said as he read the name tag on her scrubs. “I tend to be a rule breaker.” Max chuckled as he admitted that to her.
“Thanks for the warning. You can go on right in. Nice to meet you by the way. You have a beautiful family!”
Max and Luna quietly entered the room to find two bassinets with a twin inside each one of them. Both fast asleep. Max helped Luna put her teddy bears on a chair over by the window on the other side of Helen’s hospital bed.
All of a sudden Helen turned over to smile and wave at Max and Luna.
Even though Max had been here a few times to visit Helen since the twins had been born, today was Luna’s first time since it was a weekend.
“Hi Luna sweetheart.” Helen’s voice sounded very sleepy. Luna ran over to the bed to show Helen the bears she got for her sisters and Helen picked them up to look at them. Max watched her smiling and thanking Luna for the sweet gesture.
“I wanted to buy nice present for my little sisters.”
“That was very thoughtful of you Luna. Your dad and I love you very much! Even though you have to share us with your sisters now, you’ll always be number 1!” Helen told her as she looked down at Luna who was standing beside the bed looking up at her and nodding her head.
Max wasn’t surprised at all by the exhaustion. The twins were delivered almost three days ago by c section. He lifted Luna up into his arms so she could see her new sisters.

7:20 pm
Max and Luna had been at the hospital for almost two hours. They had just finished having dinner in the room with Helen and now Helen was holding the girls in her arms. Max was in love. Stella Abigail Goodwin looked exactly like her mum. Even though both babies had light brown skin and black curly hair. Stella had Helen’s brown doe eyes that Max absolutely adored. Isla Harper Goodwin however, had Max’s colour of eyes blue with a hint of green.
Max stood up out of the chair needing to stretch his legs. He reached out his arms.
“Ok who wants some snuggle time with daddy?” Helen handed him Isla. She instantly felt comfortable in her daddy’s arms and made a coo noise. Max looked down at his new daughter in awe. “Are you sure we can’t name this one Maxine?” He pleaded for Helen to change her mind. “We haven’t officially signed the birth certificate? There’s still time! I can tell this one’s going to be a daddy’s girl!”
Helen shook her head and laughed.
“We are not naming her Maxine!”
“Come on! It’s a great name!”
“We need to sign that birth certificate asap!” Helen laughed as she cuddled Stella in her arms who was now starting to cry.
“I know. Daddy has terrible ideas! Some of them are so bad you have to cry.”
“Come on. Lu are my ideas always terrible?” Luna looked at him and thought about that for a second and then looked down at the floor and back up at him again.
“Not all of them daddy.”
“Thanks Lu.”

“Luna, what do you think of your new sisters?” Helen asked as her and Max were each holding baby in their arms still. Helen was holding Isla now and Max was holding Stella. Both babies fast asleep.
“They’re cute!” Luna said with excitement. “I love them!”
Max and Helen smiled at each other. Always having dreamt of this moment and now it had finally come true. They were finally a complete family.

Two Weeks Later
Helen and Max are busy getting the house ready for some friends to come over and see the babies.
“You look gorgeous honey.” Max says as he kisses Helen who just entered the kitchen in a floor length navy and hot pink dress, her hair tied back in a ponytail to show off her diamond studs.
“Thanks Luv.” Helen said as she admired the pink decor throughout the house to celebrate their new arrivals. “Do you think I overdid it?” Helen said looking around at all the balloons, food etc. for their guests.
“Yes but I wouldn’t expect anything less from Helen Sharpe.” Helen lightly punched him on the arm and went to put the baby monitor on the kitchen island where Luna was sitting colouring a picture while sitting on a stool.

Guests start to arrive and Helen and Max introduce them to the girls who are sitting in up in a play pen that has been set up in the front family room. Everyone falling in love with the new members of the family.
“They are so cute!” Floyd tells them.
“Do you want to hold one?” Max asks him as he rocks Isla in his arms.
“Here you can hold Stella.” Helen tells Floyd, handing him the baby who is matching her sister by wearing a purple dress. “Isla is attached to her dad.”
“I wanted to name her Maxine.” Max chimes in.
Floyd chuckles and then Lauren comes over wanting to be near the babies again.
“I can’t get over how cute they are!” Lauren says as she tickles Isla’s little foot causing her to giggle.
“I made sure we signed the birth certificate the next morning. I would of done it that night but we couldn’t.” Helen explained to Lauren and Floyd.
“No one thinks Maxine is a cool name? What’s wrong with you people?” Max says as he looks at his wife and his friends shaking his head.

7:30 pm
Later on that evening after the last of the guests had finally left, Max and Helen went upstairs to the second level of their Gramercy Park townhome and began putting all three of their daughters to bed. It wasn’t that late in the evening but having three young kids, they couldn’t have people over at their house too late. Plus, Helen and Max we’re feeling wiped. It was great to see their friends but they’d both had enough for one night.
“Come on Luna. Time to get ready for bed.” Helen told her as she took Luna’s hand. Little Stella was attached to her front by a baby wrap. Max had little Isla wrapped to him. So in love with the little twin that had his eyes.
When they reached the nursery which was right across from Luna’s bedroom, Max opened the door, Helen and Luna following behind.
Max and Helen walked right up to the white cribs which were side by side and put the girls in to sleep. Their cribs which had their names in gold handwriting on the wall above them, marked where they slept each day.
The nursery was decorated to be a dream room for two little princesses. It was light purple and white mostly, with accents of pink throughout. A little play corner by the bay window, a shelf full of children’s books and stuffed animals on the opposite side of the room from where the cribs were, and a closet full of the most stylish baby clothes Max had ever seen.
Once the girls were back in their cribs Max and Helen stood there looking at them sleeping for a few minutes with Luna.
“Mum and dad?” Luna whispered, careful not to wake her sleeping sisters.
“Yes Lu?” Max said. He bent down to pick her up so she was in his arms.
“Can I give my sisters a good night kiss?”
Helen nodded to Max letting him know it was ok.
Helen carefully picked up each baby one more time so Luna could give them a kiss before placing them in their cribs again so they could have some rest.
When they finally all left the room Helen stole one final look at her babies before she closed the door. Her heart finally felt whole to have the family she always wanted. The life she always wanted with Max. She was happy to be Luna’s mum. However, she felt complete to have not one but two babies of her own.

8 pm
Helen and Max are sitting on their bed for a few minutes before turning out their lights when Helen says to Max “We make beautiful babies.” She says with a smile on her face.
Max reaches for her hand and lifts it to his lips kissing her fingers. “We sure do!”
“I love our little family.” Helen tells him as she lays her head on his shoulder. You better be careful now because you’re outnumbered! There’s more woman in this house now!” Helen says with a laugh. “We need to make another baby.” Max suggested causing Helen to look at him like he’s crazy. “Or maybe we’ll get a dog?” “We’ll see. It has to be little. It can’t shed.” “Ok. That’s a conversation for another day. Right now I’m exhausted and I want to help my wife get out of these clothes.” All of a sudden Max looked down at Helen who was now drifting off to sleep, with her arms wrapped around Max’s waist. He kissed her and wrapped a blanket around her. All of a sudden as Max was about to drift off to sleep himself when he heard two cries from down the hall. Wanting to let Helen get some much needed rest he got up out of bed and went to go check on his baby girls. There was nothing better than being a girl dad and Max was loving every minute of it so far and would continue to do so for the rest of his life with Helen by his side!
