Work Text:

“Quick, kiss me and I’ll explain why later.”

Dick was very confused. Admittedly the woman who had come up to him was gorgeous, but he wasn’t about to kiss a stranger. People tended to try a lot of ways to get with the Waynes, so it wasn’t unusual to have such experiences in Gotham. It had been made into a game in the household, for peculiar ways women and men tried to become Waynes.

“I’m going to need a little more than that.” Dick replied.

The girl looked distressed as she looked around before facing him again. “My creepy ex is here and I need you to kiss me to get him off my back. Please? He’s the blonde with green eyes. Adrien Agreste.”

Dick grabbed her arms as if they truly were romantically interested in her as he looked around the coffee shop inconspicuously. In the corner, he spotted a blonde with green eyes staring at Marinette. The story seemed to line up, so Dick kissed the mysterious woman.

Dick had always believed in kisses being magical, with his parents’ relationship being as wondrous and close, but this particular kiss blew everything he previously knew out of the water. It was soft and sweet, yet when they parted he still felt the kiss on his lips. He looked out of the corner of his eye to see that Adrien was now glaring at him.

He ignored Adrien and took the time to actually look at the woman. She had black hair, almost blue, with pretty bluebell eyes. She could almost pass as a Wayne. She wore a cute pink dress with a floral pattern. All in all, she was gorgeous.

“So, do I get a name for my mysterious kisser?”

The lady laughed, sounding like twinkling bells. “My name is Marinette, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and what is yours?”

“Richard, but you can call me Dick.”

It was then that Adrien decided to become even more of a problem. He wormed his way in between the two, facing Dick. “Get away from Marinette, you prick.”

He smirked. “I wasn’t aware that you were the guardian of Miss Marinette. However, I am very sure that she can think and act on her own, so who are you really?”

“I’m her boyfriend, you prick.” Adren spat out.

“Except you’re not.”

“And how do you know that?”

“Because I’m her boyfriend and I’m well aware of who you are, Adrien Agreste.”

That seemed to reel him back, bumping into Marinette. That seemed to knock her out of the shock of the two claiming the boyfriend card, and she moved to the side of Dick, holding his arm.

“Go away, Adrien. Before we make you. The Agreste name holds little power now.” Marinette demanded.

Adrien scoffed, before looking around and spotting a glass of water with a salt shaker nearby. He spilled the salt in the water, before throwing it on the two.

“I hope the salt water ruins your clothes, I hope you spend the rest of your life sleeping alone. I hope the problems that make your life harder sit stubborn in your stomach like your kidney stones.”

Damn, all this over a kiss? Adrien Agreste was hardly a man. More like a whiny little boy.

“Fuck off, Agreste. Before I press charges.” Marinette bit out.

“Please, like your tiny fashion label can do much against me.”

“I’m sure that the Wayne name will do wonders in helping Marinette if she decides to press charges.” Dick cut in.

Adrien scoffed. “You win this round, my Moon Princess.”

Marinette seemed to freeze, before gritting her teeth. “I’m not yours, Adrien,” she said, before turning to Dick. “Come on, let’s go before he completely ruins the night.”

“No need, I was leaving anyway.” Adrien rolled his eyes as he stalked off.

The two were silent, watching him leave, before Dick turned to Marinette again. “So… what’s his deal?”

Marinette rolled her eyes. “Ugh, where do I start? I used to have a crush on him, until an old enemy of mine returned to school. A lying bitch named Lila, who turned everyone in my class against me. Adrien told me to ignore it, and I did- for a while at least. Then while Lila turned more and more people against me, Adrien covered it up and blinded me to it all with love notes and telling me we belonged together. I didn’t realize how toxic it was until he refused to tell anyone about us dating, blaming his dad until he couldn’t anymore then would yell at me everytime I wanted to tell anyone. I was essentially his fake relationship, where to me it was real.”

“Oh wow, I’m sorry that happened to you. Are you alright?”

“Oh yes, now I am. Free from the claws of that stupid cat. I feel sorry for the people on the bus that’ll have to deal with his mumbling and grumbling.”

Dick laughed. “So where did ‘Moon Princess’ come from?”

“We could only meet up and go on dates at night, as he was ‘forced’ to date some girl named Rossi. Said his father made him. It took some convincing, but eventually I agreed to date in secret. After his father was incarcerated, he refused to break up with Rossi, his ‘Princess of the Sun’. I got tired of it, and I got tired of his yelling. I wasn’t able to be happy with him, and never would be.”

He grimaced. “Talk about toxic. That’s some heavy manipulation right there. I’m glad you’re free of him. If you need help with a restraining order, I’m happy to help.”

“Thank you,” Marinette smiled at him then continued. “So, in light of you being my knight in shining armor, will you accept my offering of one cup of coffee?”

Smirking, he replied. “Why of course, Madame, and maybe can we follow up with a date for my queen?”

“How enticing. Call it a date?”

“Only if you’re willing.”

“It’s a date, Dick Grayson.”

“Then it’s a date, Marinette Dupain-Cheng.”
