Work Text:
The scene Ryouga found himself was something he never thought he’d participate in. People were cheering and waving colourful flags. They wore glow bands on their wrists and necks, accessories that were worn even by this supposed tough guy. He even had three lines of blue, pink, and purple face paint across his cheeks. This was matched by his partner Yuma who tied the ends of a rainbow flag around of his neck, it flayed about behind him like a cape in the wind. Unsurprisingly he wore it the entire day.
To show something like that on the outside without shame was a thing the old Ryouga would’ve never done. Pride was everything to him, without it he had nothing. Though the pride he clung onto for so long was the cover that suppressed the person he was inside for far too long. He bottled it up for years until the day it overspilled.
It was then he decided he had enough.
Being in crowds wasn’t a setting that Ryouga would usually found himself in, especially willing, however this day was different.
Today was a day of celebration. For a lot of people it was about expressing yourself, for others it’s to celebrate just being in the here and now. Ryouga being able to be where he is right now is an accomplishment itself.
Things were better than they were years ago. Hard to believe he was even standing there today alongside his boyfriend of seven years. To be the one someone goes home to at the end of each day. As overly sentimental Ryouga thought he was to cherish every single second he was with Yuma, he still treated every moment like it was his last.
Every single good thing he had his life was a precious antique he held close to his heart. He wouldn’t let go even if the earth shook and the sky had fallen.
No one would split them apart again.
He raised that flag over their heads and never again apologised for being who he was.
