HYUNG
HYUNGGGGG
yoongi rushed through the kitchen, trying to create a meal that would hold him over for the next six hours while also trying not to step on his cat, yejin.
she enjoyed putting herself in danger. whether it be trying to eat strange foods or somehow managing to jump to the top of the fridge, yejin was a little rascal with her poor owner. afterwards, she would pull her “love me, i’m just an innocent little kitty” eyes, and yoongi’s heart would melt on the spot. he was a weak man.
yoongi stepped away from the sizzling pan, picking up yejin and gently placing her on his living room couch. she had been meowing loudly and trying to trip him through his entire attempt at cooking, so despite how much he loved her, she needed to be out of the way.
the doorbell rang and yoongi could feel the blood rushing back into his shoulders as they lost their tension. hoseok's friend was finally here. at this point in time, he didn't care who they were, as long as he could work undisturbed and turn in his song before the deadline.
well, it wasn’t technically his song, but he’ll get to that in a minute.
yoongi practically ran to the door in delight, almost tripping over yejin as she sped over to investigate. yoongi rolled his eyes and picked her up, hoping she wouldn't try to escape to the outside world like she always does.
with his arms full of cat, yoongi opened the door to the most beautiful stranger he had ever seen. the man had hazel contacts on and honey blonde hair, with eyeshadow that perfectly accented his features. yoongi was pretty sure his face was on fire with how red he turned from seeing the angel at his front door.
after an awkward silence where yoongi gaped at the stranger, the man spoke up. "um, hi? i'm jimin, hoseok-hyung said you needed a cat sitter."
"oh- hi, yeah, sorry, my mind's kinda frazzled right now." jimin gave yoongi a look like he didn't know how to respond, and yoongi mentally kicked himself. "i've been working on music for the past hour and i don't know what i'm saying, sorry. i'm yoongi."
jimin smiled (what the fuck- he looked so cute and his eyes fucking smile just as much as his mouth what the fuck- ) and laughed at yoongi's words. "nice to meet you." jimin pointed to the black ball of fluff in yoongi's arms, who had stayed surprisingly docile through their interaction. "is this who i'm taking care of?"
"um," yoongi eloquently said, looking at yejin and holding her up a bit, "yeah. this is yejin." yoongi stepped aside, letting jimin walk into his apartment. after closing the door, he set down yejin and she immediately started sniffing jimin's shoes as he removed them. "i don't know how she's going to act around you, she isn't usually very fond of new- oh."
jimin had crouched down and started petting yejin, who leaned into his touch and purred loudly. jimin looked up at yoongi with a smirk on his face. "you were saying?"
"oh- um, i guess she likes you." furry traitor.
despite yejin’s introverted nature, she purred as jimin picked her up. yoongi watched as jimin gave her a loving stare.
the two looked like exact opposites, jimin wearing white and sporting blond hair and yejin being a black cat, dark and destructive. however, they both held some sort of feline grace yoongi couldn't put his finger on. despite his eyes being wide with adoration, yoongi could easily imagine jimin's eyes with that feline energy, dark, downcast, and so sexy. the things that he would let this stranger do to him-
"what a sweetheart," jimin cooed as he scratched the top of yejin's head.
right, yes. yoongi wasn't alone right now. jimin was probably expecting a response.
"i have kimchi bokkeumbap cooking if you want-," yoongi stood with his eyes wide. slowly turning towards his kitchen, yoongi mumbled, "oh my god, the bokkeumbap!"
yoongi dashed into the kitchen, but he was too late to salvage his food. he frantically turned the fire down as he flipped over some of the rice, only to reveal the charred bottom. yoongi sighed and leaned his head back, eyes closed in defeat. jimin chose that moment to walk into the room in his angelic glory, yejin sitting peacefully in his arms. yoongi quickly turned his head when he heard jimin's airy giggles, small hand covering his mouth. "everything okay in here, yoongi-ssi?"
yoongi joined jimin in laughing at his own stupidity. "not really, no."
jimin, still slightly giggling, observed the pan with the ruined bokkeumbap in it, head almost resting on yoongi's shoulder. no matter how hard he tried to stop them (and he tried quite hard) yoongi could feel shivers run over his body as jimin hovered next to him. finally, he stepped out of yoongi's space. "don't you have a project to work on?" he said with a kind smile. after yoongi's curt nod, jimin set yejin down on the floor and grabbed yoongi by his shoulders, spinning him around and lightly pushing him away from the stove. "go work, i'll bring you some food in half an hour or so."
yoongi turned around, a sheepish look on his face. "jimin-ah, i don't want to trouble you-"
jimin rolled his eyes. "nonsense. i can take care of yejin and cook at the same time."
"that's fine, but i don't want you to have to-"
"aish," jimin said, grabbing the pan of ruined food and scraping it into the garbage, "i know what you're worried about- my cooking!" after all of the contents of the pan had been emptied, jimin stood and shined a bright smile upon yoongi. "don't worry. my boyfriend says i'm a good cook."
boyfriend?
yoongi played the chords on his keyboard yet again. despite the amount of times he played it and messed around with the intervals, nothing seemed to match the vibe of the song. everything gave it a melancholy feeling.
well, maybe that was yoongi's problem. yoongi was always a strong believer in fate, but fate works in mysterious ways, doesn't she?
fate was evil when deciding who yoongi’s boss should be. sure, he was a nice guy, paid him on time and everything, but every time yoongi had asked if the company could somehow promote his solo work, he got nothing. they would always tell yoongi his music was too heavy for the company’s image, like half of the songs that he wrote for these idol groups didn’t have meaningful lyrics. of course, when he wrote for the idols, deep thoughts were fine because the fans always ate that shit up as if it was written by the idols themselves. yoongi and the other producers never got a word of gratitude. but of course, it was yoongi’s music that was too harsh for the general public.
but, maybe fate was merciful when she dropped jimin on his doorstep.
"yoongi-hyung?"
pulling off his headphones, yoongi's gaze broke from his computer screen towards the blonde boy next to his desk. "jimin-ah," he sighed, "hi."
"i tried knocking earlier, but i think your headphones blocked out the noise," jimin said, gesturing towards the door of yoongi's makeshift studio.
yoongi nodded absentmindedly, glancing down at the bowl in jimin's hands. "what's this?"
jimin smiled and set the steaming bowl down on an empty space on yoongi's desk. "i fixed some food for you, hyung. seungcheol always likes my kimchi jjigae, so i thought you would enjoy it too!" jimin practically giggled as he leaned forward to rub yoongi's shoulder before walking away. "keep working hard, hyung. fighting!"
"yeah," yoongi said, well aware he was staring at the beauty in front of him. "fighting."
don't fall for him. he's not yours to love.
though it was 2am on a tuesday, yoongi found himself slipping on some shoes, locking yejin in the laundry room with her litter box and food and water bowls, and walking to the address that jimin had slurred to him through a drunken phone call.
how did he get here, one may ask.
long story short, yoongi had no clue.
however, short story long, he was “in like” with a man with a boyfriend.
yoongi had been on the couch, watching a random show on netflix and cuddling with yejin. he had finished his work about an hour ago, and the group he was producing for was set to release their first mini album some time in the next four months. he was satisfied; all was well.
with a loud bzzz, yoongi's phone vibrated against the table. yejin glared at her owner, but slowly stalked away from his lap so he could reach the buzzing phone.
jimin's face had flashed on the screen. yoongi had immediately picked up.
" hyunggg," jimin had slurred from the other line, " yoongi-hyungieee."
yoongi laughed at jimin's new honorific, which had no doubt emerged from the alcohol he was probably drinking. "hello, jimin-ah. how are you?"
" sad." jimin replied, and yoongi could practically hear the pout in his voice.
"and why is that?"
jimin sniffed from the other line. yeah, he definitely seemed like an emotional drunk. " s-seungcheol-ah is with his friends an' tae-tae n kook-ah are fucking, n' i think seokies are too." yoongi nodded along with an affirmative hum, though he had no clue who half of those people were. " an'..." another pitiful sniff, " an' jiminie's all alone and boreddd, hyungie."
yoongi turned off his television and settled into his couch. "well, we can't have that, can we?"
so, they talked.
jimin was really easy to talk to. jimin, even when drunk, had a melodic voice like a siren. he squeaked when he laughed and the smile in his voice was audible through the phone call. somehow, jimin managed to interrogate yoongi about his high school life while also making loud crashing sounds in his apartment.
“jimin-ah, what's all that noise from?" yoongi had asked.
" nothin'. what was your prom like, hyungie?" jimin had answered.
and so, yoongi had explained his experience at his senior prom; a non-existent experience where he worked overtime to buy more sound equipment and listened to gossip from his friends the next day.
at that, jimin gasped and an even louder crashing sound rattled through yoongi's shitty samsung speaker.
"jimin-ah, are you okay?" yoongi asked frantically.
"m'fineee, hyung. had to get off the cabinet. need to find streamers to- to throw hyung a new prom."
and now?
well now, yoongi was on the doorstep of his cat sitter's apartment to join him for this "new prom" jimin had put together in about ten minutes.
either he went down the wrong path, or fate was really fucking with him now.
yoongi hesitantly lifted his knuckles and knocked on jimin's door, trying to be quiet and mindful of his neighbors. yoongi jumped back as something slammed into the door from the other side. there was a pause, and then yoongi heard a quiet, kitten-like whine from inside the apartment.
"hyungieee, why's there a door here?" a small, confused jimin asked.
yoongi chuckled at the endearing drunk man on the other side. "people like privacy, i guess. can you open it for me?"
a long interlude of the sound of the door handle twisting and turning filled the hallway. finally, jimin managed to open the door a crack and peered out into the hallway. his blonde hair peeked out from the crack and his eyes frantically searched for yoongi, though he was looking in the complete opposite direction from where yoongi was. "hyungie? where'd you go?"
yoongi leaned over to where jimin was looking and stared back at him, their eyes merely inches apart. "hi, jimin-ah."
jimin screamed and shoved the door forward, effectively making yoongi yelp and hold his now-throbbing nose.
gasping, jimin leapt forward into the hallway and cupped yoongi's face in his hands. "hyungie! is your nose okay?"
yoongi sighed, still clutching his nose. "let's go inside." yoongi gently patted the other's shoulder and they both moved into the apartment, yoongi shutting the door behind them.
turning around, he was met with the room that jimin had "decorated." jimin was all smiles and bright eyes as he pointed to the streamers tightly wound around the fridge in the small kitchen. "look, hyung! i did this all alone! no help!"
yoongi chuckled (though it hurt) and shot jimin a quick thumbs-up. "it's great, jimin-ah. can you open it, though, and get me some ice for my nose?"
jimin beamed and sprinted toward the fridge. standing before it, hand resting on the handle, yoongi watched as jimin's face morphed into immense sadness. tears started to well up in his eyes and he turned to yoongi with wide eyes and a distraught expression. "i can't open it, hyungie. i-i-it's wrapped too tight, and..." jimin broke into sobs and ran to yoongi, practically suffocating him with a hug.
"oh," yoongi exhaled. he slowly lowered his hand from his pounding nose and gently wrapped his arms around the sobbing mess in his arms. "that's okay, jimin-ah."
jimin pulled back from the hug and looked at yoongi with big, round, uwu-emoji-like eyes. "it's okay?"
the lighting in the room was dim, as the only light source came from a half-heartedly strewn out pile of christmas lights on the floor. jimin's hair was a mess and his face was wet with tears. yoongi was in dire need of sleep.
and yet, in this moment, jimin looked beautiful, and yoongi was breathless.
they were dancing in the living room.
yoongi had cut the streamers with a pair of scissors he had found in a drawer and gotten a bag of peas out of the freezer. jimin had fussed over his nose, staring intently with cute concentration as he tried to find the best angle to keep the bag on. jimin had sat on the counter, legs swinging, with yoongi standing between them.
and now, they were dancing.
a terrible american pop song played on the tv as jimin's hips swirled and swiveled. his dancing was captivating even when drunk, but there were still a few times where his inebriation made him stumble over his own feet. yoongi could only sway and side step as jimin giggled. yoongi wasn't sure what exactly he was giggling at, but he didn't care. they were dancing, they were laughing, and fate was cruel to him.
but that didn't matter; all that did was jimin, and his eyes, and his laugh, and his cheeks, and his lips, and dear god he'd kill to be able to kiss that mouth-
stop. it's not safe to fall.
“hey.”
yoongi looked up from his laptop to find seokjin standing at the door in his work clothes, dropping his keys in a jar on the side table.
hoseok closed his laptop, limbs spread across the loveseat and arms opening wide for a hug. “hey baby, how was wo-”
“why is it that every time i come home, i find two producers and my lovely boyfriend waiting for me when i’m just expecting my couch and our dog,” seokjin asked, still walking into hoseok’s open arms and laying directly on top of him.
“you really should be used to it at this point, hyung,” namjoon said, still furiously typing on the keyboard. yoongi fake gagged at hoseok and seokjin’s affection, which caused hoseok to stick his tongue out at yoongi.
“i would get used to it if i didn’t know you two have your own damn apartments and can survive without me. why the hell are you in my house?” seokjin’s face was buried in his boyfriend’s neck, so the words didn’t carry the bite he probably expected they would.
“well, since someone banned me from my own kitchen, you’re my only source of food, hyung.”
hoseok sighed. “you really think you’d learn after the second time you had to evacuate the building, namjoon-ah, but no.”
“anyways!” seokjin propped himself up on hoseok with his elbows digging into hoseok’s collarbones. he looked mildly uncomfortable, but seokjin simply squished his cheeks in apology and kept talking. “do you guys remember taehyung and jungkook?”
yoongi furrowed his eyebrows in thought. “who are they again?”
“jungkook works where i do, and taehyung is jimin’s friend,” hoseok said, cheeks still being played with like silly putty by seokjin.
“oooh, jimin,” namjoon said, pulling his eyes away from the computer to wiggle his eyebrows at yoongi.
yoongi ran a hand down his face. “god, why do i ever tell you guys anything?”
“i don’t know,” seokjin said, “we’re quite untrustworthy. back to hoseok’s point, you’ll probably remember them from namjoon’s historical halloween party last year.”
“i thought we agreed to never mention that party again,” namjoon said, finally closing his computer.
“wait, were those the guys who both showed up as sexy naruto, got in a fight, and were caught making out in my car two hours later?”
seokjin winked and shot a finger gun. “precisely, yoongi-yah.”
hoseok let out a dreamy sigh. “i wish i would’ve caught them instead of you, hyung. that sounds so hot.”
“i am literally right here,” seokjin said, finally rolling off of hoseok and landing with a thump on the floor.
yoongi shut his laptop in defeat. “can we get back to what seokjin was talking about, please?”
“what, namjoon’s halloween party?”
“i despise you, hyung.”
“god, you’re all insufferable,” yoongi said, rolling his eyes. “why am i even friends with you.”
hoseok raised a finger in the air. “probably because seokjin is hot, i’m sexy, and namjoon is dummy thicc.”
namjoon covered his ears and made a face like someone just cussed him out. “please never include my name and those horrid words together ever again.”
“anyway!” seokjin yelled from the floor. “taehyung was thinking about getting a dog and invited us along to look at them. well, really, just me. but taehyung is bringing jungkook and jimin, so i can’t just go without my own posse.”
“i’m delighted to know i’m part of a posse.”
“you’re my boyfriend, of course you’re part of my posse.”
“when is this happening?” namjoon asked. “today’s my only free day for the next week.”
seokjin pulled his phone out of his pocket and looked at the time skeptically. “maybe in about… 20 minutes? give or take, depending on if jungkook or jimin decide to drive. jungkook drives like an instructor is breathing over his shoulder.”
yoongi threw his computer off of his lap, effectively hitting namjoon in the chest with it and making him grunt in pain. “20 minutes?!”
hoseok gave yoongi a skeptical look. “what, need to change your outfit for your lover boy?”
“no, i need at least an hour’s notice so i can scream into a pillow! i’ve been working on music for the past 5 hours, i don’t think i’m capable of holding an intelligent conversation right now.” yoongi speedily took off his jacket and threw it on seokjin before rushing over to the apartment’s bedroom. “call me when we need to leave,” he said, before grabbing the nearest pillow and screeching.
yoongi was completely justified in partaking in a screaming session before they arrived, because if he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have survived the spectacle that was jimin’s outfit.
at first, yoongi assumed jimin was wearing a white graphic tee under his big, gray puffer jacket, but when jimin fully unzipped it, he swore he could see the gates of heaven. not only was jimin wearing ripped jeans that exposed his thighs and sexy black shades, but he had on a fucking crop top.
fuck you, fate. fuck. you.
“hey, tae-yah, jungkook-ah! you remember yoongi and namjoon, right?” hoseok said. yoongi mentally thanked him for being the only one with great social skills in their little group.
taehyung gave him and namjoon a once-over before focusing on yoongi. “did jungkook and i, uh, have intercourse in your car?”
“its okay, you can say ‘fuck’. we’re adults. and yes, actually, you did.”
jungkook, with his arm around taehyung, made a face. “yeah… sorry about that. we were horny and sexually frustrated.”
yoongi scoffed good-naturedly. “yeah, i could tell.” he turned to jimin, desperately trying to avoid staring at that sliver of skin his crop top revealed, and smiled. “hi, jimin-ah.”
“hi, hyung. how’s your nose?”
yoongi shrugged. “it's alright. i had to use the concealer i usually only keep for my dark circles on the bruises this morning, but otherwise it’s okay.”
“aish, sorry,” jimin said, giggling his angelic little giggle. “i’m a terrible drunk, these two could tell you.” taehyung opened his mouth like he was going to respond to that, but jimin quickly cut him off. “i’m park jimin, nice to meet you all,” he said, bowing in the direction of yoongi’s friends.
“it's nice to meet the infamous park jimin,” seokjin said, bowing in return and sending a wink to yoongi.
jimin giggled, body loosening and making yoongi worry that he might fall onto the pavement outside the shelter. “oh, i’m infamous?”
“anyway,” yoongi said before anyone could get a word in, “we’re here to get taehyung-ah a dog, right?”
taehyung shrugged. “jungkook and i are thinking of it more like we’re adopting our first child.”
“we already have a list of dog names that we prepared,” jungkook added, nodding seriously.
“uh huh…” hoseok said, glancing at yoongi with a look that said are these people insane? yoongi’s gaze flicked over to the couple and back to hoseok before shrugging his shoulders. “so, um, should we go inside?” hoseok asked, breaking the silence.
namjoon nodded. “let’s head on in.”
yoongi started walking forward with the rest of the group when he felt a hand on his lower back. he turned his head to see jimin, a small smile on his face. his blonde hair shone in the sun, almost creating a halo around his angelic face. yoongi felt his cheeks flush from simply being in jimin’s presence.
“are you sure your nose is okay? nothing broken?” he asked, tone quiet enough that he others wouldn’t hear as they fell further back in the pace of the group. the warmth of his hand heated yoongi’s back nicely.
“it aches a little to the touch, but i’m alright,” yoongi responded.
jimins hand dropped from his back. yoongi wished it would have stayed through the whole day. “i’m still sorry about it. i don’t know what came over me, my emotions were everywhere that night.”
yoongi chuckled and knocked their shoulders slightly. “it’s okay. feel free to call me whenever, i don’t mind a call from you.” the two stopped walking, letting the others drift further away. jimin smiled sweetly, making his eyes form tiny crescents. “i had a lot of fun, jimin-ah. i mean it,” yoongi said, patting jimin’s shoulder lightly.
jimin looked down, eyes still scrunched. “i’m glad. thank you, hyung.”
a short silence broke out between the two as jimin looked back up at yoongi. with a small spurt of bravery, yoongi gave jimin a once-over. “you look beautiful today, jimin-ah.”
jimin’s eyes widened before he giggled, looking down again in embarrassment. “aish, hyung, stop being so nice!”
yoongi opened his mouth to respond no, its really true, you’re the most beautiful person i’ve set my eyes on, but seokjin’s voice broke his thoughts. “c’mon guys,” he said, holding the door to the pet store open. “let’s get the lovers their first child!”
jimin’s eyes flickered over yoongi like he was going to say something, before looking away and jogging over to the door. “coming, hyung!”
yoongi smiled fondly before following suit.
don’t get too comfortable, min yoongi. it’s not safe.
