Chapter Text
Jack has been crashing at your place, due to him having caused some trouble in the neighbor and he needed a place to lie low. Currently on your bed, kneading the blanket as he’s sitting on it comfortably. His tail is waggling around happily, him emitting small purrs that could be mistaken for growls if you don’t listen carefully. You’re currently reading a book, which he brought for you as compensation so that he could stay here, but you reassured him you didn’t mind him here with you. It took little convincing before he was comfortably sprawled on your bed.
“Is the book any good?”, he murmured, as he’s still purring. You looked behind you, as you were sitting right by the bed. “Well, it’s pretty interesting. It talks about the plants around the area”, you hummed, lifting the book to point to one of the illustrated pictures. He leaned forward, easily flopping on his stomach, now studying the page of the book. His clawed hand traced the outline of the drawing gently. He grinned and sat back up. “It’s drawn pretty!”, he exclaimed, his tail hitting the mattress, causing it to make a light sound every time.
You nodded, while giving him a small smile and pulling the book back, continuing to read the pages. Lobelia, that’s the plant you had showed him. Your reading resumed as usual, both of you sitting in silence.
However, Jack was growing restless, as you could tell from the rapid hitting of his tail on your bed. You peaked behind you and he noticed you looking at him. He blinked and stared at you with his black orbs, giving you a toothy smile, showing off his fangs. You used to be intimidated by his teeth, but you got used to them and nowadays you found them quite endearing. “You doing okay there, bud?”, you asked, now turning around and resting your hands on your bed, having placed the book next to you. He nodded and grinned, flopping down on his stomach, so that he’s close to your face.
You chuckled and pressed a small kiss on his nose, which made him immediately blush and start twitching, his tail waggling around happily. He mumbled what you could decipher as a small “thank you”. You stood up and flopped down on the bed, sitting right next to him. He immediately put his head on your lap, careful not to poke you with his horns. You giggled as he comfortably nested himself closer to you, his messy hair sprawled all over your lap. You ran your hair through his hair, as it was extremely soft. He started taking care of himself much better and you allowed him to shower at your place.
He enjoyed your fingers glazing across his scalp, as you could make out a low purr. You could feel his throat vibrating, a wide smile plastered all over his face. His eyes were closed, but now and then he opens them to look at you, to check that you didn’t stop running your hand through his hair. Scratching at one spot right behind his ear made him go into turbo purring mode as he happily squirmed around, purring loudly in a low tone. He soon enough stopped and you could tell that he dozed off. His behavior really reminded you of a cat, and his slightly fuzzy skin made this comparison even more believable.
Careful as not to wake him, you slowly placed a pillow underneath his head so that you could comfortably rest right next to him. As you laid beside him, he stirred for a moment, but relaxed, noticing that you were still there. You rested your head on his chest and trailed your fingers over his bare chest, that was covered in fur. It was a really weird feeling, as he was human-like, but some features of him were so… special. Claws for hands and feet, for example.
He still struggles to be careful with his newfound claws, and occasionally, he accidentally scratches you. He always apologizes, and he has the habit of licking the wound to cool it down. His weird slobber, which is like the liquid that sometimes leaks out of his eyes, almost has the properties of a healing salve. Most of the time, the pain of the wound goes away after mere minutes. You know he doesn’t do it on purpose as he still has troubles controlling everything about him, hence why you forgive him when it happens.
You spaced out for most of the time; you didn’t even notice that you took one of his paws and traced his claws, examining them subconsciously. He even has paw pads, and you squished them ever so slightly. His claws were permanently out, making it easy to hurt oneself with them. You don’t think that he can retract them
You moved your head to look at him and he had the most peaceful face ever. All of his eyes were closed, his mouth ever so slightly open, his breath and heartbeat were calm and even. He seemed content. That’s what you hoped at least. Watching him being so happy and cozy made you tired yourself. You nuzzled closer, smelling his fur, which had the scent of the shampoo you had specifically bought for him. You had bought him one that smelled like milk and honey and he absolutely loved it.
While idly petting his chest, you slowly fell asleep. You’re really glad to have this giant cuddle bug in your life.
