Chapter 1: Day 0: September 18, 2021 part 1

Chapter Text

 7:34 am

“Darryl”

Darryl jumped when he heard his name. He was almost dressed, so it surprised him when someone was at his door this early. “Can I come in?” The voice asked.

Darryl was pulling down his shirt when he was going towards the locked door. “Yea here,” he said as he opened the door.

Clay’s personal assistant was in the doorway, George. He was wearing a white shirt with a red stripe across it and was wearing a denim jacket over his shirt. As well as khaki pants, the tinted glasses he normally wears on his head. “Clay wants to see you”

“What’s the issue?” Darryl asks.

“I think you’re getting a new mission. I had to tell others the same thing.” George explained as he looked at the checklist he held in his hand. He usually has a checklist of people Clay wants on the job.

Darryl lets out a sigh. Most people get a mission 3-4 times a month. For him, it’s more like 6-7 times a month. And that’s if they tell you what the ghost’s troubles are. Otherwise, figure it out yourself, and that could take months to years. “Ok,I’m on it,” Darryl said as he headed out the door and walked the hallways leading towards Clay’s office. George followed as well.

When they got to the door, you could hear someone yelling from inside. George went to open the door, but before he could, someone came busting out.

“YOOO, that was my first mission.”

It seemed to be Tom. He was walking backwards, talking to people behind him.

“Your first?” The voice belonged to Ranboo. Darryl figures he was behind Tom. “That’s like my third.” As they came more into view, it seems Toby is right next to Ranboo.

“Well, this is tubs and I’s first mission ok.” Tom said as he squinted at Ranboo.

“Speak for yourself.” Toby chimed, “This is my second.” Darryl looks at George as the younger cadets walk down the hallway. Their voices and laughter spread throughout the building. It sets up a cheerful atmosphere. For some, it’s a good mood to have around this early in the morning.

Darryl looked back at the door leading to Clay’s office. He’s done this so many times that it’s engraved where the furniture is in his mind. George opens the doors and Darryl walks into the room.

“Darryl welcome.” Clay said as he looked up from a sheet of paper he was jotting down notes on. “Here’s your new mission.” He handed Darryl a tablet. On the tablet was a house.

It seemed to be a one-story house that was lifted off the ground a bit, with a red brick patio. On top of that wall were four pillars that seemed to be made of white bricks. The walls of the actual house were made out of wood that was painted white. The paint has seen better days. It obviously was an old house, but it didn’t look that bad.

Clay starts to speak again. “This house went on sale a month ago, and every person who went to visit it claims that it’s haunted. Please swipe to the right.” Darryl did just that. This time it was a different photo.

Someone with long dirty blonde hair and green eyes “That’s Caroline Puffy, the last known person who owned the house. She lived there for 14 years. We suspect she’s the ghost that’s haunting the house. We’re trying to get more information on her, but for now we need you to keep the ghost under control. “ Darryl hands Clay back the tablet as it seems as though there are no more pictures to see. He was right.

“So I’m going to live in that house you showed me previously?” Darryl guessed that they were talking about the house in the first photo as Clay put away the tablet. “Precisely, now pack up. You’re going in a few hours. “

“How are you feeling?” Techno, the person driving him to this house, asked as he turned down the radio. The radio DJ was just saying what the song was about to be. Darryl wasn’t paying attention to the DJ, but he could tell that the song was Heatwaves from the tune of it. “Normal I guess. How else am I supposed to feel?” “I don’t know, excited? Tired? “ He suggests “What kind of mood is normal?” The buildings outside the window turned into trees and houses. They were close. “Content Is Similar.”

Then techno started to slow down as the house came into view. “Well, let me tell you this, when your mood finally changes from content to something else. It’ll be the change you need. “ The car stops. Darryl opens the car door and gets out, the house right in front of him. The house has a presence that’s a little lonely but welcoming. In the driveway is a moving company. It looks as if they are getting ready to leave. Darryl turns back to Techno, who already has his window rolled down. “Call me if you need a ride.” Techno says as he does a little salute with his hand. “Will do,” Darryl waves back, then techno rolls his window up.

As Darryl watches Techno drive away, he looks back at the house and sighs. He suddenly hears a different voice. “Hey!” He turns around and sees what seems to be his neighbor. As the person walked over, Darryl examined the person. They had medium-length hair that was brown. Their hair reaches to their shoulders. They’re also wearing circle glasses. As they walk closer, Darryl can see they have blue eyes as well. “My name is Eret. I live next door.” Well, there’s the neighbor question answered.

“Darryl.” Darryl went out to shake hands but Eret just gave him a low five. Confused to what just happened Darryl just brushed it off. “Well I’ll see you around” Eret says as he starts to go back to his house. Darryl let’s out a sigh, much longer and it probably would be more awkward. He starts to walk down the path leading to the house. When he’s inside the same feeling he got outside; Loneliness. Darryl goes to his room and puts his stuff down. Even with the lonely feeling he can feel eyes on him. It’s probably the ghost but Darryl doesn’t pay any mind to it.

The eyes continue to follow him into the kitchen. Darryl can feel the ghost getting awfully close. When the ghost actually tries to scare him, he’ll react. Darryl goes around the kitchen to get the hang of stove and oven. “I’ll probably need to get some groceries soon” he says to himself. Then a new voice speaks. “Groceries? Why not just get take out. Why is boring stuff your first priority.” It sounds different then he expected puffy’s voice to be but he doesn’t have a right to Judge. Darryl brushes it off and is about to leave the kitchen when the lights turn off.

Darryl rolls his eyes, they weren’t going to do the predicatable scare tactic, right? Nope they did, the lights flicker and Darryl let’s out a quiet but annoyed sigh. “You really couldn’t think of anything bet-” Darryl stops when he sees the ghost. “Fuck” the ghost says. They have a blue streak in their black hair. Blue eyes to compliment their brown skin. Their wearing a black hoodie with dark blue as a less prominent color. They seems to be wearing jeans but like any ghost their legs start to fade. Darryl has a face of shock as said ghost starts to speak again. “You can see me can’t you.” Darryl tries to find his words slowly making sense.

“y-…..you’re not puffy.”

Notes:
