Summer Hellos and Winter Goodbyes

Summary:

The snow fell from the sky like rain. It was cold, but being with the person beside him just makes it a little warmer.

Hajime knows he should stop getting used to Tōru's presence.

Sooner or later, the warmth he gives is going to go away. Just like he is.

Notes:

3rd attempt at an actual fanfiction! :)))
It's literally so late right now, and I feel like my eyes are gonna give up on me any second, so if you see any typos, NO. YOU. DON'T.

Oh, and leave a comment! And a kudos aswell, if you like. Constructive Criticism is much appreciated!

Chapter 1: Winter Goodbyes

Summary:

Saying goodbye always sucks, knowing that there's a good chance that this is the last time you'll ever see the person you're parting with.

Hajime knows, though, that Oikawa Tōru will always have a spot in his life, and possibly in his heart, that no one will be able to fill.

And he wonders if he can manage it.

Chapter Text

3rd November, 2019

( Iwaizumi Hajime's POV)

"And you're sure you want to go? You're okay with us.... being apart? "

With me being far away? Out of reach?

"Well,I mean, you told me you're okay with it, right?"

Hajime gave a small nod.

The night is young, but their conversation is getting quite old. They've had it so many times before.

But Hajime would like to initiate it, just one last time.

Maybe he could change the other's mind.

"Yeah, I did."

Of course I did. It's everything you've ever wanted. Doesn't mean I meant it, though.

"Then I'm okay with it, too."

The snow fell from the sky like rain. It was cold, but being with the person beside him just makes it a little warmer.

Hajime knows he should stop getting used to Tōru's presence.

Sooner or later, the warmth he gives is going to go away. Just like he is.

By tomorrow, Hajime is going to have to go to the local cafē for breakfast alone.

"Don't waste the opportunity, 'kawa. You better get a position, at least."

By tomorrow, Hajime is going to sit in his bedroom all afternoon, with no Tōru to pester him with his annoying whining.

" Oh, trust me, I will."

I know you will.

By tomorrow, Hajime is going to have to walk to school, being swallowed by the cold, because no Tōru will be here to remind him to take a scarf with him.

Hajime took in a breath of cold air.

By tonight, Hajime is going to have to sleep, knowing well that once he wakes up, there will be no Tōru to greet him good morning.

"You're flight is 3:00 am, right?"

He hears Tōru sigh.

" I couldn't get a better flight schedule."

Hajime smiles and takes a moment to look at the latter and take in the sight in front of him.

"You'd better get going, then."

Tōru turns to look in his direction and nods.

"I'll see you when I see you, Iwa-chan."

And with that, they part ways.

The night passes, and the sunlight tries to squeeze it's way into Hajime's window screen.

He wakes up feeling empty.

The birds outside are chirping, morning traffic is very heard in his apartment, and Hajime feels like crap.

His phone is erupting from all the text and tag notifications.

Some, of course, like his highschool volleyball team, are trying to contact Tōru through the group chat.

Idiots. He's still on his flight.

Some are trying to console him, like Kunimi and Kindaichi. If anything, they're actually making him feel worse by reminding him. But he appreciates the effort, really, he does.

Hajime knows that there's no point in sulking about Tōru's departure, really.

It's not as if Tōru would come back if he spent his entire day whining and sighing and crying into his pillow.

So, really, it's fine.

He's fine.

And all he can do is wait for the day that they see each other again.

They will see each other again.

They will.

Hopefully.
