Work Text:

In one universe, Nana Shimura married young. In another, her boyfriend told her that he wanted to take a break to enjoy his last moments of freedom before their wedding, which turned out to mean he wanted to fuck her best friend. Nana dropped her engagement ring on his head from a very high height, then went out to the nearest bar to get drunk.

Coincidentally, All for One sat at a back table guzzling mimosas as he waited for an informant who never arrived.

Nana suffered from profound heartbreak, wanted to sleep with the nearest warm body in revenge, and had gotten slightly tipsy. All for One would later claim it had all been a clever plot to humiliate his mortal enemy, but actually he’d been equally drunk: aka mildly buzzed but still sober enough that he should recognized her. His failure to do so had less to do with the alcohol and more to do with him being an enormous ass who deliberately forgot people’s faces and names.

One spectacular night later, All for One checked Nana’s wallet for her ID as she slumbered in the hotel bed. He planned to rally his entire information network for every last bit of information about the dark-haired beauty for a very stalker-ish courtship. Then he read the name “Nana Shimura,” gave an undignified squawk, and broke the back wall as he escaped. Nana woke up in time to see him use multiple quirks. She ran after him wearing a bedsheet and doing her level best to stab a lamp through his heart.

Four months later, Nana sat across a café table from All for One. She’d been unable to arrange this meeting in a neutral location, until she’d realized that he’d left his suit behind on the hotel floor, including a picture of Yoichi in his wallet. She’d held it hostage to force him to come.

All for One slid into the chair across from her with a grumpy expression. “You look fat.” He took a sip of his water glass.

“I’m pregnant,” Nana said.

All for One choked. Nana watched with curiosity to see if he’d die. Unfortunately, he spewed water out his nose and recovered.

Nana said, “You left a hair on your suit, and the DNA test says it’s yours. I’ll cut to the chase. I hate you, but I want this kid. Drop off the child support in my bank account once a month, and I’ll never bother you again.”

“Excuse me?” All for One bristled. He had been attempting to have children for decades, but his immortality ability rendered him mostly infertile. This was a miracle to him. “I’ll pay you more than you’ll make in your entire hero career to give me the baby after he or she is born.” He whipped out his phone. “My doctor will see you immediately. I’ll order a regiment of prenatal vitamins. I need you healthy while you’re incubating replacement Yoichi.”

“I’m not naming him that.” Nana snorted. “Also, your brother’s ghost living inside my head wants me to tell you that you’re a creep.”

“Who now?” All for One dropped his phone.

The city of Musutafu had an unprecedented reign of peace as All for One stopped all villain attacks while Nana was pregnant. He refused to risk his unborn child. Five months later, Toshinori Shimura was born. (And so named despite All for One trying to put Yoichi Shigaraki on the birth certificate while Nana was still dazed by painkillers.) The city was ripped to pieces by a massive hero-villain custody battle. In the midst of the burning wreckage, the parents settled on a custody arrangement. Sunday through Tuesday, Nana had little Toshi. On Wednesday through Friday, All for One had him. On Saturday, whoever won the arm wrestling battle would have him for that day. Saturdays became notorious days for property destruction in Musutafu.

Toshi’s first word was “Daddy.” All for One, who’d spend hours chanting over the cradle in order to arrange this, mailed Nana a bouquet of red roses with a card offering condolences for her loss.

At Toshinori’s third birthday, his favorite gift was a hero figurine. He proclaimed his desire to become a hero when he grew up. Nana mailed All for One a bouquet of roses with an equally sarcastic condolence note. Then she had to go bust her son out of the bank vault that his terrified and hysterical father had locked him in.

On Toshinori’s fourth birthday, he was diagnosed as quirkless. All for One sent Nana a bouquet of flowers. She tracked him down and nearly beat him to death before he explained that he hadn’t stolen their son’s quirk—he’d merely been bragging about how much Toshinori had turned out like Yoichi. Then she hit him one more time for celebrating when Toshi was clearly disappointed.

When Toshinori turned sixteen, his parents asked him if he wanted a quirk of his choice from his father or One for All from his mother. Toshinori picked One for All. After All for One fainted, Nana dropped her condolences bouquet on his comatose form.

Upon learning of Toshinori’s acceptance at Harvard University, All for One sent Nana a bouquet with half a dozen cards filled with all his bragging about how his son had clearly inherited his brains.

After Toshinori debuted as a hero, Nana stripped every flower shop in the city in order to deliver a truckload of roses to All for One. Then she followed the sound of his anguished screaming to break her son out of the bank vault yet again.

When Toshinori proposed to Inko Midoriya, he warned her that his parents were a little odd.

Inko, an orphan, thought such doting parents sounded sweet. Especially after Nana and All for One started mailing Inko presents on a daily basis in their maneuvering to become favored in-law. The very day that Inko announced her pregnancy, both grandparents filled her house with baby gifts.

Inko’s delivery went smoothly with both grandparents in attendance. All for One offered to ease Inko’s pain with his quirks, and Nana insisted on being present to keep an eye on him. Upon laying eyes on Izuku, All for One babbled about how he needed a bank vault for this precious treasure at once. Nana hit him over the head with the nearest lamp. This gave the new parents time to safely escape the hospital.

The parent wars eased off, allowing Toshinori some breathing room for the first time in his entire life. Instead, the grandparent wars began.

Nana was bound and determined that Izuku’s first word be “grandmother” in revenge. She played a tape in his bedroom saying nothing but the word “grandma” on repeat. All for One had already tried to kidnap Izuku five times. Even Inko’s patience started to wear thin.

Izuku developed a mild cold shortly after his birth. Criminal activity in Japan screeched to a halt as All for One devoted all his resources to searching for a cure for the common cold. Because the sickness took down Toshinori and Inko too, Nana moved in to look after the whole family. After Izuku recovered, Nana and All for One reached an agreement that from now on, because Izuku was too fragile to be pestered, they would take their fights one city over instead. Musutafu citizens danced in the streets in celebration. Insurance rates skyrocketed in the neighboring city.

After spending all day rescuing victims from an earthquake, Toshinori glanced at his watch and realized he’d never be back to Musutafu in time to pick up Izuku from kindergarten. He dialed his home phone number. “Inko, darling, I’m sorry about this, but can you pick up Izuku again?”

“I’ll do it,” Nana and All for One answered at once.

Toshinori scowled at his phone. “What are you two doing at my home?”

Nana said, “I’m preventing All for One from sneaking villain figures into Izuku’s toys. He doesn’t like them.”

“He loved my custom dawn of the age of quirks Deadpool figurine!” All for One protested.

Nana snorted. “Deadpool is an anti-hero.”

Toshinori pinched the bridge of his nose. “Where is Inko?”

“She went out shopping. We let ourselves in through the window,” All for One said. “I’ll pick up my adorable little grandson. I’m getting in the car now.”

Nana called distantly, “Well, I’m in the air now.”

All for One bellowed, “Well, I’m stepping through a portal right now. Kurogiri!”

“I’m putting your warper under arrest,” Nana shouted.

Toshinori sighed as his call dissolved into static. He would just have to run home faster.

However, by the time Toshinori arrived, Izuku had already been picked up from school. Toshinori paid for the damage to the school wall left from the latest grandparents battle, then returned home. Izuku lay on the living room carpet playing with his toys. Nana and All for One sat on opposite couches, glaring at each other.

All for One waved a Darth Vader figurine in the air. “Look, duckie, it’s the most magnificent and powerful Sith Lord.”

“Your super-cool hero grandma will easily defeat that Sith Lord,” Nana said, throwing a Nana Shimura figurine at him.

Izuku added another block to his tower. He looked up, then leapt to his feet. “Daddy! I’m building a castle while Grandma and Grandpa can play with each other. This time they can knock down the blocks instead of breaking the school.”

Toshinori snorted out a laugh. Nevertheless, he said politely, “Thank you to whoever picked him up.”

“That was me,” All for One said.

“You lying villain!” Nana cried. “I arrived first. Tell him, my cute little green bean.”

Izuku blinked. “You two both arrived at the same time.”

“He’s cute so I accept this verdict,” All for One said.

“Ugh, I hate agreeing with you,” Nana sighed.

All for One caressed her cheek. “I know you do, you insufferable minx.”

Nana grabbed him by his collar and yanked him closer. “You’re just angry that I kicked your ass before little Izuku ran out to stop us.”

“You did not.” All for One leaned closer, growling into her lips, “I despise everything about you.”

“I hate you too,” Nana breathed, putting her arms around his neck and drawing him close.

“Whoa there!” Toshinori cried. He shoved them both out the door. “Take it back to your own place. Izuku is present.”

When Toshinori turned around, Izuku looked up at him with wide eyes. “Did Grandma try to bite Grandpa? Are they fighting again?”

Toshinori laughed nervously. “Your grandfather and your grandmother have a very strange relationship. You’re too young to know about it. Why don’t we get dinner started for when Momma comes home?”

Notes:

Happy birthday, All Might! Of all my fics where I gift All for One as a dad to various characters on their birthday, I think All for One would hate this one the most. I apologize for nothing.

Credit goes to DawnHero for suggesting the perfect prompt to drag Izuku into the madness too, and Space__Cryptid for adding more ideas for the Grandparent Wars.

Kotaro doesn’t exist in this AU, which is no big loss, but I do feel sorry for poor Tenko. Maybe Tenko and Hana got born into a nice, normal family with no connection to heroes or villains.
