Tomioka Giyuu has a white cat. Its fur is as white as a snowball and as soft as velvet.
Before being taken in by Giyuu, it was a stray cat. That explains the long scars on its face, which the cat might gain from the fights with other stray animals. One long scar from right cheek across its nose and two on its forehead.
Also because it used to be a stray cat that had to struggle with the harsh life on the streets, this cat had an aggressive behaviour and it was really hard to get along with it. When they first met, Giyuu was "nicely" given scars on his face as first meeting gift. Still, Giyuu found this cat special so he made up his mind to adopt it. After a period of time living together, the cat has finally opened up and become a good cat for Giyuu (in exchange for various red incisions on his body and some cans of pate thrown away).
White fur. Scarred face. Aggressive behaviour. The cat reminds Giyuu of his boyfriend, Shinazugawa Sanemi. Therefore Giyuu calls it SANEMI.
When Shinazugawa hears about this, he has clearly showed his annoyance to Giyuu. Because Giyuu has never called him by his first name, instead he's willing to give that name to a cat which he just met. Shinazugawa originally likes animals but because of this, he has a grudge againts SANEMI. And maybe SANEMI doesn't like him either.
Everytime Shinazugawa comes to Giyuu's house, he has to put up with the sight of SANEMI lying on Giyuu's thighs, burying its small head in his lap and exposing its white belly for him to rub.
"That place should have been mine." Shinazugawa always thinks like this whenever he sees the two of them being intimate.
Sometimes Giyuu calls "Sanemi", making Shinazugawa surprised and think that he was calling him but in fact it is SANEMI who he called. Whenever he mistakes like that, Shinazugawa is ashamed that he feels jealous of a cat.
Shinazugawa cannot tell Giyuu to stop caring the cat. He knows that his boyfriend is not some kind of an animal person so when Giyuu is happy playing with an animal, Shinazugawa feels happy for him too. But maybe Giyuu has been so happy that he forgets Shinazugawa.
When Shinazugawa stays overnight at Giyuu's, SANEMI is always interrupting them. It lies between him and Giyuu making Shinazugawa cannot snuggle with his lover. And that only increasingly drives Shinazugawa crazy.
They are both teachers so most of their time are dedicated to their students and they rarely meet on a daily basis. Only the weekends are their time to be together but suddenly appeared a third wheel, how come Shinazugawa is not getting annoyed? Shinazugawa sometimes get the feeling that he wants to get rid of SANEMI so he can have some alone time with Giyuu but if he did so, Giyuu would be really sad and infuriated with him.
Feeling the dissatisfaction from Shinazugawa everytime he looks at SANEMI, Giyuu always smilingly comforts him and says: "I see no difference between SANEMI and Shinazugawa so whenever it lies besides me, ,I feel like having you right here with me." Of course when hearing his lover saying stuff like that, Shinazugawa is no longer worried about that cat, he becomes soft-hearted and embraces Giyuu.
That scene would be romantic but for the growls from someone lying between them.
