Chapter Text

"If we're really friends...

You won't come back..."

As the blaster fires upon the downed child they close their eyes, accepting they're old friend's last words to them. This was it. They fucked up. And now... they can't possibly make things right.

The light fades, and everything is reset, just as Sans expected. He waited. Watching for the signs. Doing his normal routine with the lady behind the door. Very soon. They should come through those doors any second now. Better get into position. He stepped off the path, hidden behind a tree.

"Three.

Two.

Aaaaannnndddd......" he waited.

And waited....

And waited.

Nothing. Confused, the lazy skeleton walked over to the door and gave a knock. He knew the lady wouldn't be there. And yet.... Neither was the kid. He huffed, sitting against the frame. Maybe they just forgot an item. Or a kill? He wasn't sure, but they sure as hell were taking their time. "Dumb kid. I thought they did everything in those last three runs. Especially that last genocide run." He stared at the door before hearing Papyrus calling for him. "That time already? Huh... kid's taking pretty long ..." He shrugged, deciding that perhaps they were just staying with her. She did offer.

He left to meet up with Papyrus, both boys going home. Every day after he'd do the same thing, expecting to see the kid come out those doors.

Nothing happened. This went on for a while, Sans even daring to ask the lady about the kid. But she hasn't seen a child in years. "That can't be right... they shoulda been here by now." Sans decided to teleport to the first area. Where Frisk WOULD fall, but there are no signs of disturbance. No one had fallen.

He was about to head back when he heard Flowey speak up behind him. "Alright you smiley trashbag. What's going on? It's been Days since the human was supposed to show up!! Where are they?" Sans thought for a few moments. This couldn't be right.... He turned to Flowey, looking the flower dead in the eyes.

"What do you know, weed?" he asked, assuming that the flower had done something. Flowey scoffed, sneering at the skeleton. "Nothing. All I know is I have been sitting here for days waiting for them to show up! I'm bored!" Sans nodded, not fully trusting the flower, before looking around. "Well... I can't do anything. They're SUPPOSED to meet you an yer mom first. THEN me." He stated flatly. Mentioning the code of the game they live in bothered him.

"Well you did something!!" The two bickered over who was right until something dropped in from the hole. "Finally!!" Flowey stated with a huff. "Now you'll see. I was right and you are wrong." As the two look into the room they see no one. Sans teleports over, picking up the locket that had fallen in. Flowey popped up next to Sans, looking at the locket with slight worry. A piece of paper was tied to the locket. Sans opened it and began to read it to himself before the flower complained that he wanted to know. Sans then decided to read it aloud.

"Dear Sans and friends, that includes you too Flowey,

I'm sorry but... I'm not coming back. I can't. There's no way for me to fix this mess I've made. To change the fact that I killed.. All of you.... And toyed with your lives for my own enjoyment. I'm gonna do as you asked last run Sans. I only hope this begins to help. I won't come back. I promise. I just wanted you to know that I miss you all... and I'm sorry... for killing everyone so many times... it haunts me.... You know... everything I've done.

If you manage to forgive me.... Then I'm glad... but I can't forgive myself.... And I need to lock myself away.... To..... you guys........ My soul......... tainted....... Have to................." The bottom of the letter was hard to read with all the scribbles and stains. Was that blood? Sans huffed, dropping the letter. He didn't know if he could trust them anymore... let alone forgive them. Flowey read the letter, just then realizing that he remembered it all. Even remembering making them promise to erase his memories with each reset. But he shouldn't remember. A tear slid down his face and he huffed." Why am I... Feeling?" Sans looked at the weed and for a moment, felt bad, before turning and teleporting away. Flowey wiped away his tears as best he could before picking up the locket. He examined it a bit, remembering him as Asriel with Chara. He decided to put it on, for old times sake, and was instantly transformed. He had limbs. He was... human.

"Wha-Whaaaaaaaat?!" He looked over his new form in confusion, feeling different emotions and a strong sense of determination. A familiar one at that. He went to look at the locket but found it lodged in his chest. There was a faint red coming out of the crack. He knew what they had done now. But why him? Flowey had no idea what he was supposed to do with this new found power. This new look. The letter came into view and he took in the bloody mess at the bottom. They need help. They need their friends.

This was going to be hard, but he needed to get everyone to follow him. Even Sans. He needed to make sure everyone remembered, both the good and the bad, and forgives Frisk. He now knew what this determination was for, and what he needed to do.

Turning to face the walk path he realized this was going to be a tough journey. If they trusted Him. He can trust Them.

This.... This is where it all begins.
