“Hey, so this is hard to say but I’ve been thinking about it for a while now and I just wanted to let you know that I’m trans. So I’m not a guy, I’m a girl,” Taehyung blurts out, hands twisted together in an attempt to stop her from fidgeting.
Yoongi rubs his eye calmly. “Okay.”
“It’s fine if you don’t want to be with me anymore because of this. I know you didn’t really sign up for this when we started dating and you don’t have to—“ Taehyung pauses as Yoongi’s reply registers in her brain. “Wait. What do you mean okay?”
“I mean okay,” Yoongi shrugs. “You know yourself better than anyone so I’m not gonna throw a fuss about you discovering yourself.”
Taehyung gapes at her boyfriend. “What?”
Yoongi smiles, holding a hand out to her. “And we’re not breaking up unless you want to. I’m bi and I love you, not your genitals.”
“I…” Taehyung trails off, unsure that her ears are working properly but she takes Yoongi’s hand anyway.
He pulls her down into his lap, pressing a kiss to her cheek once she’s settled. “Do you want to break up?”
“Of course not!” she bursts out.
“Okay. Do you still want to be called Taehyung then?”
She shakes her head, licking her lips before she admits, “I wanted to try out the name Taehee. It’s close enough to what I’m used to that I’ll respond when someone calls me anyway.”
Yoongi scratches the hair near her nape. “You could pick an entirely new name too. Doesn’t have to be close to your old one, but Taehee it is.”
She smiles, still confused even as she relaxes into Yoongi’s embrace. “You really don’t care?”
“No. You’re still the same person I fell in love with and now I have a wonderful girlfriend to show off to the world,” he replies easily, smiling when her hand twists into his shirt. “Unless you don’t want to come out publicly, that’s fine too. You’ll still be my girlfriend regardless.”
Taehee laughs, ignoring how watery it sounds. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
