Bad Weather

Summary:

The weather and its effects are out of your control, but you can take some measures and maybe get a little help to make it more bearable.

Work Text:

Félix wasn’t good with people, a fact he was constantly reminded of when around his family or childhood “friends.” But he wasn’t bad to people. Not actively, that was.

It wasn’t willingly that his face contorted into a scowl and a sound akin to a growl would grow in his throat every time someone approached him today; a loud “What?” wasn’t his intended word choice nor tone when he’d open his mouth; his clenching jaw, easily stinging eyes, and twitchy hands were all a consequence of today’s Bad Weather, and his only way of counter-attacking it was to curl on himself and take more breaks to breathe in and out as he fiddled with his beaded bracelet under the desk, he wasn’t intentionally dragging out this assignment!

It didn’t stop the eye rolls, angry mumbles, and scoffs, though.

His head still drummed as he kicked his apartment door closed behind his back, a hand rubbing his face.

He stood still on the entrance till the heavy drums in his mind were replaced by low whistles then strode to his room, dropping his suitcase on the sofa on the way, and dropped head-first on his bed.

Once his muscles loosened on the soft mattress, he was able to spread his numb arm out and pull out his phone to hold it in front of his face, propping his head up on the crook of his elbow.

He only needed to send ‘Bad Weather’ to Marinette and she was already spamming him with animated gifs of diverse existing and non-existing animals, short piano solos, and photos of pretty pins, stickers, and postcards—some of which she was holding; he just hoped he wouldn’t need to talk to her about impulsive buying again—ending with a, ‘can’t leave early today T^T will bring you cheesecake tho!!!’

‘It’s OK,’ Félix typed as the light threads of her messages already caressed his face. ‘Thanks for being here.’

She sent three consecutive messages:

‘i’m not there yet

‘but i will be

‘with cheesecake’

Félix’s face eased into a smile.

‘Can’t wait.’

Immediately after sending it, anxiety spiked up and he added, ‘But I will, you should focus on your work.’

‘i can’t anymore, it’s too much pressure. i’ll be thinking about you all alone in this Bad Weather and won’t be able to focus on anything else, and because i can’t focus, i can’t finish my task and then i can’t go see you and the cycle continues…’

‘-_-’

‘YOU USED AN EMOJI!!!

‘strength has been restored

‘cia Fé <3’

‘See you.’

After a few seconds, he typed a new message:

‘<3’

‘EMOTIONAL DAMAGE’

Félix pulled a pillow to laugh on it as the clouds in his mind dispersed to reveal the night sky sprinkled with gentle lights humming a soft lullaby.

Notes:

Went hunting for a drawing that might fit this shot and found this one:

(I don’t know what happened with the legs, but I didn’t feel like erasing and cleaning it up at the time and I certainly don’t feel like it now)
