One year has passed since since a Hylian boy named Link has saved the land of Termina from the goddess Majora, and the notorious imp known as the Skull Kid finally come to terms with the Four Giants’ departure for the sake of the nation and is now content with the companionship with the twin fairies, Tatl and Tael
But little does he know what the gods have in store for him and the adventure that is yet to come

“Alright Tatl, you’ll count to twenty while me and Tael find a hiding place!”
“I am on it Skull Kid!” Tatl exclaimed as she prepared to count to begin their game of hide-and-seek. Ever since her adventure with Link to save her friend, Tatl has become more empathetic and adventurous than she was when she’s with Skull Kid before accidentally being separated from him
As Tatl is counting to twenty with her eyes closed with her face against a tree, Skull Kid and Tael are going around the surrounding forest trying to find a good hiding spot for Tatl to find them in.
While he founds a potentially good hiding place, Skull Kid also spotted two elegantly-dressed women he instantly recognized and then jumps down the tree he was in to run to them and greet them
“Trixen! Trinya! What are you doing in the forest?” he said happily as he reaches up to hug them
Trixen and Trinya are twins that came from a long line of priestesses who had worshiped Majora even after centuries have passed since their original tribe is no longer around
“It’s about time we found you Skull Kid” Trinya said during their hug to which Skull Kid replied “What do you mean by that? Is there something I have to know?”
The twins pulled away from the hug and then Trixen puts the bag she’s been carrying on her back in the ground and opens it to get a mask that Skull Kid knows all-too-well
“We want you to have this mask of our goddess and protect it”
Skull Kid then remembers all the stuff he has committed with it a year ago and all the harm it caused to both his friends and the people of Termina and even if he was possessed by it, he still feels massive guilt over it. He then promptly freaks out and stated outright as he tries to throw it away to which Trixen stopped him from doing so
“Sorry m’ladies, you don’t want another world-ending situation in my hands!!”
he shuddered as he stares at the twins
“That’s not going to happened Skull Kid” Trinya said while calming him down
“Majora can no longer access this mask”
“Are you really sure about that?” Skull Kid questioned as he’s recovering from his freakout but is still having shivers by just thinking of that wretched mask
Trixen then puts her hand on his shoulder and begins to calmly assured him as to why they want him to own it “Allow us to tell you what that salesman didn’t tell you about this mask”
Trinya added “When the goddess Majora left to the heavens, our tribe made this mask as a way for her to communicate with her people and the mortals below, even if it means to possess the person wearing it, though a few others tribes who had worshiped her follow suit with their own means to commune with her”
Trixen said following after her sister
“But when she was defeated by your friend, the connection that she has to this mask has been severed”
Skull Kid doesn’t know all of this before, but how much that masked salesman does know about the mask and the connection it has to Majora is beyond him. but at least he’s now relieved that he won’t get possessed by that mad goddess again
“So does that mean that it is safe to wear it now?”
“yes” Trinya replied “but the actual reason why me and my sister wanted to give this mask back to you is because it still has her immense powers” as she handed over the mask to Skull Kid
“For the past year, Trixen and I have been scouting for any leftover traces and powers Majora has left behind in Termina and storing them into her mask. We wanted to give it back to you is because you saw firsthand how much destruction it could bring if it fell into the wrong hands, but we know that you won’t do it again given the immense guilt you had over it”
Skull Kid pondered hard over this as he observed the mask and noticed that it didn’t have the creepy aura it once had. since Majora no longer has any connections to the mask, perhaps this’ll be an opportunity to redeem himself he thought
Then he puts the mask on his face and donned it once more
Tatl and Tael then flies over to the imp and the twins afterwards
“Hey Skull Kid! We have been looking for you for the past hour, what’s even up with that?” Tatl said as she and Tael flys over to the masked imp
“Oh no…” they both said as they saw him wearing the all-too-familiar mask
“Tatl! Tael! Don’t worry about this! We can explain everything!”
Skull Kid exclaimed as he tries to calm them down and showing them affection to proof that Majora is not in control of him while Trixen and Trinya is about to explain to the fairies about why their friend has the mask again
After they are done, the fairies eased up a bit though they’ll keep an eye on their friend just in case. “Guess we’ll be going back to our hideout in The Lost Woods” Skull Kid said as he and his fairies are about to depart from the twins but Trinya realized a little detail that she forgot to tell him “I almost forgot. If you needed any help from me and my sister, the mask still has a psychic connection to both us and Majora, can you remember that Skull Kid?”
Skull Kid nodded to them and said while waving goodbye
“Alright then Trinya, hehe. Goodbye girls, I hope that we’ll meet again one day!”

When Skull Kid and his fairies arrived at The Lost Woods, they encountered a rather tall green-haired woman and her attire consisted of a jade green dress and cape with a silver corset, gauntlets, and a piece on her back that went up to both sides of the head while having smaller pieces that resembles flower petals
This is The First Sage of Forest Sulkaris
Skull Kid only loosely knew about her as a person and her accomplishments as a sage but doesn’t know how’ll she react to his mask and fears for the worst given Majora’s reputation and that she didn’t know about the whole fiasco over at Termina
“Majora?”
She said while spotted him while she’s strolling with some forest creatures watching her
“Is that really you?”
Skull Kid stands still for bit as if he was caught but then he floats to the air to make eye contact with the sage and said “You must’ve been mistaking Mother Sulkaris” as he holds Tatl
“The connection Majora has to the mask I’m wearing is no longer there thanks to Link”
Sulkaris was confused by what Skull Kid has said but noticed that Majora’s presence is not there at all so she quickly accepts it
“I do understand what you have said Anthony, my apologies”
She calmly said while Skull Kid is still in mid-air
“Apology accepted Mother Sulkaris!” he responds cheerfully but then questioned
“But what happened in this forest while I’m gone?”
Sulkaris then pulls Skull Kid into a quick motherly embrace but then explains
“A lot has changed in the past year while you are away. I have to rule over this forests once more because of the death of The Great Deku Tree”
“wait what?!”
Skull Kid said in shock during their hug
“He have died due to a Gohma infection that was put on him by a Gerudo thief not-too-long ago”
Sulkaris respond
“But Saria and the rest of the Korkiri are safe under my care, so don’t worry about them”
as she lets Skull Kid out of their hug so that he can be on the ground
“I really hope what you’ve said about them is true if that’s the case..”
Skull Kid said
“but me and my friends needed to go back to our hideout”
“Alright then Anthony, and may the gods be with you”
Sulkaris saids as she continues to her stroll in her territory

When they arrived at their hideout, Tael asks Skull Kid
“So your real name is Anthony huh?”
“Yes” he responded “We Skull Kids refer to each other by our real names in order to tell us apart, but you two can still call me Skull Kid”
“I see then,” Tael said in response, beginning to wonder about his past, perhaps he and Tatl will learn more about it later down the road.

So Skull Kid and his fairies remained at The Lost Woods where they play and live in peace while 215 years have passed
