Dr. Sophia Baek never thought she’d ever step foot on the surgical wing of Aubrey Hall Hospital yet there she found herself lost in the busy traffic of bloodthirsty surgeons. Sophie stood out like a sore thumb with her baby pink scrubs compared to the blue and navy ones of the surgical doctors. From the surgeons Sophie has met in the past (Araminta, now Rosamond), they thought they were better than others since they have to endure more training and have higher stakes.
It’s a lot more difficult cutting into human flesh than documenting the growth of a baby.
Sophie can practically hear the judgment of her step-mother…the argument is absolutely fallacious since Sophie will learn how to cut into human flesh. She won’t have to complete any surgeries like a Septal Myectomy, but Cesarean Sections can potentially have many complications and Sophie will not let Obstetrics be undermined.
As a first year OB resident Sophie is usually tasked with simple errands when she’s not needed, coffee runs, phone calls, charting. In this instance her attending Dr. Danbury, asked her to fetch Dr. Bridgerton to get a second opinion on a case. Yet after paging Dr. Bridgerton with no reply, Sophie was sacrificed to journey to the surgical wing. She swiftly made her way to the nurses station, surely they would know where Dr. Bridgerton was.
“Excuse me” She kindly said, “Do you happen to know where Dr. Bridgerton is currently?”
The nurse looked at her with an annoyed look, “Dr. Bridgerton? Ha! If I had a dime every time I was asked that, I’d have a fortune!”
“Pardon? I was informed that Dr. Bridgerton was on the surgical wing and-”
“Looking for Dr. Bridgerton? Well here I am” came a mysterious voice.
Turning Sophie met the gaze of the most attractive man she’s ever seen.
But that was not Dr. Bridgerton.
Sophie had never met Dr. Violet Bridgerton since it was only her first month at Aubrey Hall, but she did know that Dr. Bridgerton was married to Dr. Edmund Bridgerton the chief of Surgery. And the dashing man she was looking at now was too young to be the chief.
“M-my apologies, but you are not the Dr. Bridgerton I was looking for…” Sophie said, stumbling on her words. Ugh why did she have to be so awkward?
The young Dr. Bridgerton gave her a crooked smile. “Well then you must be looking for my brother, or my father, but seeing that you are from OB,” His eyes scanned her up and down, making Sophie’s knees almost give out. “Then I conclude that you’re in need of my mother!”
“Well just how many Bridgertons are there?” She asks curiously.
“Ten in our family, but you’ll only find six in the hospital” keeping his strong gaze on Sophie.
“Impressive” She nods. “But yes, I am in search of your mother. Do you happen to know her current location?” Sophie was getting lost in his blistering blue green eyes, even with the harsh lighting of the ceiling lights his eyes still managed a sparkle.
“And why would I give up top secret information when I don’t even know your name?”
“Why would you need to know?” Sophie smiled, playing along.
“Well you knew mine!”
“That, was merely a coincidence of you walking by!” She said with a laugh. “I had no idea that there were more Dr. Bridgertons around the hospital, and while I know your surname I do not know your first name”
“Benedict, Benedict Bridgerton” He said, putting out his hand. “Nonetheless it’s a simple exchange for finding my mother.”
She hesitates on her answer just to make him wait.
Taking his hand, “Dr. Baek, Sophie Baek”
Maybe it was the static of their white coats, but Sophie swore she felt a spark when their hands touched.
“Nice to meet you Dr. Baek” Giving another dazzling smile. “You’ll find my mother having lunch in my father’s office.”
Sophie scrunched up her eyebrows, “Which is…”
“Oh! Well I can lead you there if you would like, and-”
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
They let go of their hands realizing they were still holding them together.
“Oh, that’s alright” Sophie said melancholy. “You seem to be busy at the moment, I’ll find my way.”
Benedict opened his mouth to say something when his pager beeps again. With a huff he parts, “Till next time Dr. Baek.”
“Looking forward to it, Benedict” smiling at him.
Turning, Benedict looks at his page and sees that it’s for General. Great , he thinks.
But once he’s done with his shift, Benedict knows he’s going to ask his mother about the stunning OB resident.
