Work Text:
The purple neon sign that lights up the small recording room have always been Junghwan's favourite place ever since little.
He remembers the times when his papa brought him to work; with his little pillow tightly in his hold. He roughly remembers the coos he received from his papa’s colleagues, jiggling his chubby cheeks. And he remembers how his daddy would always pick them up after his work.
It’s the little memories that Junghwan will never be able to forget. He turns around to give a small smile, a smile of goodbye for the memories that the small room has given him.
“Hwan?” the 17 years old boy turns his head around, finding his papa waiting for him at the end of the corridor. He returns a smile and walks briskly towards the man, standing beside him in the elevator. “I’m gonna miss this place.”
His petite father looks up at his taller self before giving a small smile of agreement. “Me too, baby.”
“Am I supposed to turn left here?” Hyunsuk faces his husband, breaking away from his dazed. “Yeah, Daejin hyung told me so,” he lowers his head to examine the area, pointing to a tall building meters away from them. “I think it's that building, Hoon.”
He looks over his shoulder, chuckling at the view of his son sleeping with his head on his boyfriend's shoulders. Hyunsuk said it's fine; Junghwan and Doyoung don't need to help him with the shifting to his new workplace. But his only child disagrees, and stubbornly wakes up in the morning, all ready to tag along.
“I told him to not follow,” Hyunsuk remarks as Jihoon stops at the red light. It was Jihoon's turn to look over his shoulder, laughing at the 2 boys in his back seats. “He's sad that you're moving to a new studio, you know?”
Hyunsuk laughs, nodding his head in agreement. “He grew up in that studio.” Jihoon smiles, Hyunsuk is good at fabricating his feelings but Jihoon knows him better than himself. “Big step, huh?” He softly asks, driving towards the grey building. Hyunsuk looks away, refusing to answer his husband.
That small room witnessed a lot—Junghwan scoring his first 100 for maths and Jihoon rushing in to tell about his promotion. And how one day his husband and son surprised him by waiting for him in the studio right after his long meeting.
Hyunsuk remembers everything like it was just yesterday. He doesn't want to show how attached he is to that small room he called home. But not everything lasts forever; Hyunsuk reminds himself.
“Here's your room,” Daejin, Hyunsuk's senior smiles at the family, standing aside for them to enter. “Like it?” Hyunsuk turns to Junghwan who has his mouth open in awe, laughing before facing Daejin again; “We like it.”
Junghwan helps Hyunsuk to rearrange his figurines collection on the new glass shelves, carefully placing it as how his papa would like. “Hwan,” the boy turns around, walking closer to Hyunsuk who sits on his desk, typing something on his keyboard.
He pulls a chair for himself and sits beside the older man. Junghwan can't help but twirl Hyunsuk's new blonde hair. He has always adored his smaller papa, hugging, and kissing the man whenever he has the chance. “Papa looks cuter after cutting his hair!” he says when Hyunsuk comes home with his new hair.
Hyunsuk has never felt happier with his choice. All he needed was Jihoon's endless praises and Junghwan's continuous love to make himself feel confident.
“Remember the song you tried singing last week?” Hyunsuk clicks on a few file, making Junghwan stop twirling his short hair and faces the monitor. The boy hums, watching the cursor that stops over a file.

Junghwan hears the familiar beat and he turns to Hyunsuk who nods his head along to the song, grinning at his son's stunned face. “You put this together?” Junghwan raises his voice a little, watching his father nodding at the question.
Hyunsuk in fact has recorded his part first, after learning his son's new favourite song. He encouraged the 17 years old boy into recording his part; bluffing that it was just for fun.
But more than anyone, Hyunsuk knows, Junghwan is just as hesitant as him.
“I wanted to gift you something that reminds you of my old recording studio and papa realised that we have not recorded any song together—”
Hyunsuk was cut short by Junghwan's hug. He smiles, rubbing the boy's back up and down, tightening the hold around his son. “Thank you, papa. I love it.”
Junghwan rests his cheeks on Hyunsuk's shoulders, suddenly remembering everything that happened last week.
He visited Hyunsuk's studio, waiting for Doyoung to finish his class and pick him up for a meal at the new cafe that had just opened up. He sees his papa playing the keyboard, sitting quietly on the black leather sofa behind the working desk.
“Oh? I didn't know that you were coming?” Junghwan nods, walking closer to Hyunsuk who has put down his headphone. “I'm waiting for Dobby to finish his class,” he dips his finger on one of the keys, echoing the chord 'C' around the room.
Hyunsuk hums, continuing his work when he realises this is an open opportunity for him. “Papa noticed you've been singing one particular song on repeat these days,” Junghwan turns to Hyunsuk with an unplugged headphone over his ears. The boy is just as mischievous as ever; his hands are never to himself.
“Oh, Dragon? Yeah, it's a song that has been stuck in my head for days now,” his hand now reaches over for Hyunsuk's cap, swirling it around before putting it on.
“Try singing it then.” Hyunsuk removes the cap, replacing the previous headphones with plugged-in ones. Junghwan points to himself and then the mic that Hyunsuk pushes to him. “Go on, just for fun.” He persuades again, finding the instrumental in his desktop.
Junghwan clears his throat, a little embarrassed to be singing in front of his producer father. He loves singing and he occasionally dances with his boyfriend but the boy doesn't show it to his parents. He's shy; the boy doesn't have the confidence to be showcasing his talents in front of his talented fathers.
Hyunsuk is a known song producer that releases mixtapes and collaborations now and then. Jihoon on the other hand, used to be a part of a national dancing team—before they found out that Hyunsuk was expecting Junghwan.
But that didn't stop them from releasing covers together occasionally. Junghwan felt the proudest whenever he hears people praising both his parents' voice and chemistry.
“Papa cover your ears and don't hear Hwan's singing, please? I'm shy...”
Hyunsuk laughs, nodding his head to go along with whatever his son wants. At the end of the day, he is still going to hear it anyway.
It was Junghwan's third try when they heard a door knock. Doyoung peaks his head inside, waiting for the owner to invite him in. Behind him trails Jihoon in his white polo with black jeans. It was Friday so he didn't have to don his usual suit.
“What are the two of you doing?” Jihoon stands beside Hyunsuk's work chair, looking at the recording software monitor. His finger was about to press the keyboard when Hyunsuk slaps it away.
“Sit down there and cover your ears. Junghwan is about to record his last try.”
Jihoon stares at his smaller husband but obeys, walking over to take a seat beside Doyoung who leans his back on the sofa. The beat echoes around the room once again and Jihoon patiently waits until his son stops singing.
He doesn't get it, did Junghwan think that they couldn't hear his singing?
“Why is your boyfriend allowed to not cover his ears?” Jihoon puts his hands down and looks over at Doyoung who is grinning at him and then back to his son who rolls his eyes.
“Are you and daddy going out after this?” Junghwan ignored Jihoon, passing Hyunsuk the headphones back. The smaller father nods, pointing to his still grumbling husband. “Daddy wants to try the new cafe that recently opened.”
Before Junghwan could even turn to Doyoung, his boyfriend perks up, pointing to himself. “We're going there too.” Junghwan stares at his boyfriend dumbfoundedly. It was supposed to be their date night but of course, the clueless and extrovert Doyoung had to invite over his parents, especially his non-stop teasing daddy.
“We are not intruding?” Hyunsuk glances at Junghwan who puts on a smile, shaking his head, concealing his annoyance towards his boyfriend who finally gets it.
“Great, we can go together, then,” Jihoon stands up, looking at both his husband and son who are still seated in front of the monitor. “You done, babe?”
Hyunsuk hums, tidying his things on the table. “I'll be done soon. You go and wait in the car with Doyoung. Hwan, you want to follow daddy or me?” Junghwan who was glaring at his boyfriend turns away, pointing to Hyunsuk. He saw Doyoung putting on a sad face but ignored him, showing his boyfriend his back instead.
“Okay, I'll wait in the car. Let's go,” he lightly taps the boy beside him, picking up his bag that's on the table. Doyoung nods, quickly removing his jacket to put on Junghwan's shoulder. Patting the top of his head that is covered by Hyunsuk's cap, Doyoung leaves the room together with Jihoon.
Junghwan plays with his phone, wearing Doyoung's green jacket tightly around his body while Hyunsuk packs his bag. “Wait, papa! Let's take a picture with me in your cap.”
The father agrees, pulling himself closer to Junghwan, looking at the screen that is placed before them. “Scary pose, okay?” Junghwan curls up his fingers cutely and Hyunsuk tilts his head a little before willingly following suit with whatever his son wants.
The timer runs down and for once, both of them were satisfied with the first capture. “I like it,” Hyunsuk nods at Junghwan, pulling himself away from the boy and tucking his chair neatly. “Me too,” Junghwan hums in agreement, tailing behind his papa who switches off the room's light before leading the way to Jihoon's car.
“Why am I not invited to the hug sessions anymore?”
Junghwan turns around to the voice that snaps him out, seeing Jihoon at the door with a few more boxes. It's true, Jihoon has been excluded often recently because the man likes to squeeze Junghwan a little too tight, disallowing the boy to leave his embrace without a long kiss on his chubby cheeks. Jihoon places his boxes down in the corner of the room before running towards the working table.
“Daddy,” Junghwan whines a little when his father forces both of the seated figures into his arms, leaving a kiss on the crown of their head.
“Where is Doyoung?” Hyunsuk stretches his neck, looking behind Jihoon who covers his view. “I bullied him and told him to wait for the food that I ordered—ah, there he is.”
The door opens and the college boy steps in with two bags in his hold. Junghwan lightly pushes Jihoon's body away, walking closer to his older boyfriend before smiling prettily. “Thank you, Dobby.”
He reaches for the bag, placing it on the long table before calling for both his fathers. Junghwan hopes this is a new start for them to create more memories—adding on to the old ones.
And Hyunsuk hopes that this bigger room is willing to watch the new growth of his small family; his home.
