mike cursed the day he thought meeting harvey's family would be a good idea, moreover he cursed harvey for thinking that taking mike to meet his family would be a good idea! the second mike ross had crept out of the car, he knew he was doomed — anyone sane would think so too, for there were no bright decorations similar to the ones on the porch of their own home or perhaps, over enthusiastic mothers who just couldn't wait to meet their son's partner!
he remembered the moment harvey's gentle skin met the surface of the source wood door landing gentle knocks and looking back at mike with a smile. mike, to be fair, had expected to be greeted with a spotlight staring at him and harvey's family observing him under their eyes—so this is the boy who stole harvey's heart! i think harvey was talking about proposing!—.
so when he was met with a man gazing back at him with a look that could be considered as happy, with nothing but silence following her, mike was a little intrigued. harvey's father was a middle aged man, with long inky hair that fell over his eyes and freckles that made him seem a lot softer than harvey thought he was. all in all, he seemed like a symphony carved with gentleness and mike had vaguely been interested for what the night had to bring.
it was a mere game of fate that an hour and two wine glasses later, the latter wanted to kill himself! marcus and alexis averted their eyes from him every time he directed a soft question towards them, harvey's father kept binding mike with glares and he could feel harvey's fists clench tighter by each mere moment that passed.
"so mike," alexis started, her rough voice eerily similar to velveteen snakes in a way & mike had to avert his eyes from his plate to look at her, "what do you think is the worst thing about yourself?"
the younger man glanced at his boyfriend, taking in his clenched jaw and the small tilt of his lips indicating that harvey was intrigued by the question, "i am gonna tell you something, alexis. i met harvey here and i fell in love with him. he loved me back. the best part about me? i love him so much more than my own life. the worst part? i love him so much more than my own life."
harvey glanced at mike, his mind occupied with the saccharine moment when he almost lost mike to prison. they had got out of it but harvey had promised him with luna's gaze on him that they were going to open a new firm with just them and maybe donna. the one thing from the whole ordeal that stuck with him was how mike was so willing to give himself over, his sweet boy almost went to jail and he did it with his lips turned up into a bitter smile.
alexis averted his eyes to marcus, who elegantly sat on her right, his eyes never leaving the spot behind harvey's head. "that's so sweet, mike!" the woman had a small grin on her face as she spoke, igniting the small butterfly inside his stomach as he pondered over the possibility that maybe he was doing this right.
"this is a big step, isn't it?" harvey's father interrupted, his voice had a slight wisdom to it and his eyes shone just a bit as he spoke. "meeting parents? has harvey met your family yet , mike?"
the curve of his chin dipped as mike nodded, the heart shaped locket he was clad in came in contact with his neck, "it's just my grammy actually, si—mr. specter and i took him to meet grammy on our first anniversary so—"
"what about the rest?" the older man took a sip of his wine before he averted his eyes back to mike and a single sentence seemed to be imprinted in him in that moment—harvey gets his death stare from here, oh god!
harvey cleared his throat, brushing his hands against his black button down before he slipped one under the table to take mike's hand. "dad i thin—"
"it's okay, h." interrupted mike, slipping his boyfriend a soft smile and very elegantly ignoring his 'i am gonna spank you for interrupting me' look. "lost my parents in a car crash and i don't have any siblings so it's just grammy. she raised me and she's more of a best friend, anyway."
the older man smiled at the last sentence and mike tried to ignore how it was more of a faint smile than a genuine one. instead, he caught harvey's gaze out of his eye, the pair looking excited as his mind brought back the words harvey had said to him the whole way. "they are gonna absolutely love you, mike."

fireflies danced to the soft jazz coming from his phone as the sun peeked from behind the blinds. their day out was in full swing, harvey was with his family in his childhood room and mike found that alexis' company was actually comforting, he could tell her small things about harvey and receive honeysuckle hidden facts about his boyfriend.
mike held his dark coffee in one hand as he watched the blue hues painting the sky change places with a darker tone. alexis shifted from her place behind him, fiddling with the coffee machine as the two of them sat in comfortable presence.
she was rather sorted, with tanned skin and small freckles. the atmosphere around her reminded everyone of a disney movie and perhaps, their love for hopeless romance was what got her to eventually like mike.
"Mike Ross," she strutted to him, a hand curled around her coffee. the knowing in her eyes reminded him of donna and mike had to hold down a chuckle.
"Alexis Specter." he turned to her with a mock serious look, both of them holding eye contact before bursting into a faint smile. it was a mystery to him how an hour ago, alexis was giving him sour looks whenever he so much as attempted to make a joke and now, they were talking about searching shows on netflix and seeing what they find.
"here's your husband's coffee—you sure this is how harvey likes it?" she questioned with a glint in her eyes as she handed him the porcelain mug.
"yes, i am sure. eidetic memory, remember?" he grinned as alexis shook her head, a smile blooming on her lips. his tone was more confident than it was an hour ago, now that he was sure that harvey's didn't hate him. "i am gonna go give this to my husband now."
mike ignored the mock salute she gave him, instead opting to cross the room in small steps, careful to not spill any of the coffee as the sound of his sock clad feet hitting the floor became background noise.
by the time he had actually reached the room, mike had forgot all about the coffee and he was focused on the dark oak door. there were black stars adorning the length of the door, with a small photo of babe ruth pasted away in the bottom left corner.
he shook his head, opening the door with a small creek that blended in the conversation. the words that reached his ears however made him drop the smile that would have angels swooning. "harvey, he is an orphan!"
"i am aware that he is a goddamn orphan and guess what, he is the most brilliant orphan out there!" harvey spoke in hushed noises and from where mike was standing, he could see the small furrow in his eyebrows.
"he kept making those awful jokes!" mike could tell that the voice belonged to marcus from the slight rough edge in his voice. "i don't know, harv, i just don't like him—"
"alexis likes him! didn't you say that al can read people the best?" harvey interrupted with his hissed words, anger clear in his tone with just a tad confusion. marcus looked irritated and lost and mike thought he would just walk away like he couldn't explain it to harvey.
harvey's father's voice echoed around the room, his eyes directed at harvey as he spoke, emphasizing each word. "we don't like him, harvey. he is soft-spoken and we understand that you love him but there is something off about him—didn't you say he cheated on his girlfriend?"
"i did not say cheat, dad. a girl barely kissed him when he was with someone else, mike couldn't do anything." said harvey slowly, his lips turned downwards as if he had tasted something sour. "i love him and i am going to marry him someday. you have no idea how excited he was to meet you all—"
mike let a small smile paint itself over his lips, knocking lightly on the door as he tried to morph his look into one of neutrality. the three men looked at him as he entered, his soft feet making small noises against the carpet as he walked towards harvey.
"i came with your coffee." he uttered the words with a mere smile, missing the two men leaving the room and leaving him alone with harvey.
the latter looked at him carefully, trying to guess the emotions his boy was feeling. mike gave him a soft look in return, reaching across harvey to put both of the porcelain dishes on the bedside table, ignoring their skin contact while the butterflies in his stomach came alive.
"mike," harvey murmured, pulling him by his waist so that mike was sitting in his lap with their faces almost touching. "you know that i love you, right?"
"mhm, i do and i love you too—." said mike, his heart still jumping every time he heard those honeysuckle words dip from harvey's mouth.
it was silent for a while after harvey's out of the blue comment, their intertwined hands being worshipped by the stars as mike took in harvey's face. every mole that decorated his skin like stars and the small tilt of his oh so kissable lips—
"you know that you are not sneaky as you think you are, right?"
"harvey—" he attempted to pull back from harvey's embrace but the older man kept placing kisses on his neck, sucking every now and then.
"i know that you heard it. i can recognize you anywhere, mike. by the way your feet struck the earth and your genius brain speaks." harvey uttered the words against mike's skin, laying another kiss on his high neck. the younger boy could only whimper in protest, his eyes staring at harvey. "they don't matter. we matter, okay? grammy likes me and donna likes you. they're the only ones who matter."
mike nodded carelessly, his chin resting on harvey's head as the older man's stubble rubbed against his neck. he knew that he was going to have a breakdown when they get back inside the comfort of their home. hell, harvey knew mike was going to seek the comfort of his arms and yet, they ignored it. breathing in the simplicity of just being with each other as the stars gently shone in the night sky.
mike cursed the day he thought meeting harvey's family would be a good idea, moreover he cursed harvey for thinking that taking mike to meet his family would be a good idea! the second mike ross had crept out of the room with harvey's hand in his, he knew it was going to get better! anyone sane would think so too, for there were no bitter fireflies dancing inside his skull or perhaps, obnoxious glares directed at him.
