Help Me, Help You

Summary:

It's a year or so after the events of first encountering a space hedgehog. After Stone narrowly saved him from being stuck in a mushroom, they are back at it again, testing new machines and building up their repertoire- even if it's less than legally.

However, Sonic comes to foil some of their plans. But it doesn't go as intended, and leaves Stone in critical condition.

Notes:

This is based off an image I saw of the two of them the other day. The last part kinda describes the image perfectly. Idk where it went tho, so if anyone knows the link to it lmk.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

When Agent Stone and Doctor Robotnik first met Sonic, they wanted nothing more than to kill that blue whirlwind. However, as the year passed, they had become less fixated on him. He tried to shove the doctor into a mushroom planet, sure, but his trusty agent was there to pull him out right in time of it shutting and then they took off.

Now when they saw the hedgehog, it was to stop their attempts at world domination. This was just another day in Green Hills, Montana.

Today started like any other day, Agent Stone stood obediently by his doctor in the mobile lab as his doctor began doing field tests on his latest scheme.

“Look! These incredulous incompetents will have no idea what hit them!” The Doctor exclaimed, laughing. The agent smiled fondly down at his doctor, watching him get all excited and riled up.

“You’re a genius, Doctor. With this new robot and us at the wheel, we’ll take over Green Hills in no time,” Stone beamed, looking up at the hologram of the robot with awe and excitement.

Robotnik rolled back in his chair and looked up to his agent, a smile threatening to break on his face. He enjoyed these moments, no matter how hard he tried to pretend he didn’t. It felt… validating, almost, to see the look of child-like wonder upon Stone’s face.

“I know I am, and we will! Onwards steward, let’s make sure you fit into your chair in this beautiful machine.” The duo made their way outside.

Due to the government hunting them down, they had been living at an abandoned junkyard. It wasn’t terrible after they did some clean up, and it was great for Robotnik to be able to tinker around with smaller projects when he was winding down. Agent Stone had his own apartment (that wasn’t signed in his name), which he regularly had Robotnik at to get him to actually go to sleep. The car ride there was filled with Robotnik cursing at him, but it was always worth it to see the man actually relaxed.

When the two of them stepped outside the lab, there stood Robotnik’s latest creation. It reminded Stone of his childhood, it looked so similar to the transformers he used to watch. There were two seats in the chest of the beast, and the entrance was on the back. The badnik’s had been making it all day according to Robotnik’s orders within the lab, and seeing it up close was just as awe-inspiring as in the lab.

“Doctor, this is… it’s magnificent! You really can perform miracles,” Stone walked around the machine as Robotnik’s chest swelled with pride.

“I’m a genius after all, Agent, what else did you expect? And! Look!” He ran to the back and pushed a button, the machine let out a bit of steam and the doors opened. There, steps unfolded and landed perfectly on the ground, “Now, no need to climb it Agent!” The agent let out a laugh and climbed in, Robotnik followed behind and shut the door. The agent climbed into the left seat, and Robotnik into the right.

“So, as I’ve said before, you’re controlling the movement Agent. And I’ve…” He laughed mischievously, “I’ve got the missiles.” Agent Stone slipped into his chair with ease, Robotnik pushed a few more buttons and did the same.

The robot began whirring, many warnings popped up that the doctor blatantly ignored and closed. He didn’t feel there was any cause for concern, as they were just taking it out on a little walk to make sure everything was in place.

Well, they didn’t even make it that far before they started having issues.

“Sir, the right leg is malfunctioning. It’s taking a lot less weight than the left,” Stone stated, looking panicked at the many hologram screens in his area. The doctor raised an eyebrow, swapping from weapons diagnostic to hardware diagnostics.

“That’s… strange,” He muttered, tapping away on the screen. He went into the files, checking the hydraulics and making sure the gravitational balance of the machine was right in the center. He saw that their current center of gravity was towards the left of the chest, instead of the middle. This could be a cause for concern, he realized, because any sort of movement that might hit them would send them toppling. He began to call for the badnik’s that were still at the lab a good mile away, there was no reason to leave the machine just yet. Robotnik placed faith that the badnik’s would be able to fix it while they were still in.

They were about half a mile out of town, and what he wasn’t expecting was a certain blue hedgehog to catch wind of their testing. What nobody else expected either, was for Sonic to come barreling into the side of the machine.

“What the fuck?” Robotnik shouted as they got hit hard on the left side. They didn’t move too far, in fact it seemed to balance them that little bit more. Sonic zoomed right in front of them, glaring up at the machine.

“Doctor Eggman!” He yelled, “What are you doing? Seriously? Today is a good day for a jog, not to bumble around like a hog!” Then he snorted at his own rhyme.

The doctor rolled his eyes, “Sonic, I’m not here for you. Not this time, anyways. We’re testing some machinery, get back you idiot!”

“Sorry Eggman, but I don’t believe you one bit.” The doctor was about to say something sarcastic, when Sonic rolled into a ball and charged at them.

“Wait, wait, SONIC!” He yelled. He had miscalculated the danger of being in the machine still. Sonic hit their right side, which sent them easily toppling to the left.

“SHIT!” Cried out Stone, and the machine collapsed. The metal easily crumbled on itself and it had left Robotnik wishing he had spent more time on the interior design. How could he be so stupid as to let this happen?

“Agent? Agent!” He could no longer see the agent’s work area, as a piece of metal had dropped in between them. The doctor crawled out of his work area and got to open the back of the machine. He coughed up blood and crawled out.

“Fuck! Fuck fuck!” He yelled, “You piece of stupid shit rodent! Do you not see this as a prototype? You alien abomination!” He fell to the grass. He stumbled to sit up, his shoulder in pain. He wildly looked around, realizing that his agent wasn’t outside the machine, but still stuck inside.

He whipped around, shaking off his normal tail coat and climbing back inside, ignoring the burning pain around his shoulders and his legs. He tried to pull back metal pieces, but it wasn’t working. He cried out, panic filling him.

“No, no no no, Stone? Stone! Do you hear me? Agent!” With his shaky hands he tried to move the debris himself, but he was too weak.

“God damnit,” He cursed, and heard a sound of something zooming to the entrance of the hole.

“What are you doing bro?” Sonic asked, tilting his head.

“Trying to get my agent you fucken pompous ass! He’s stuck and might be hurt or worse!” He snapped.

“Move Eggman, let me help.” Sonic sped through without Robotnik being able to protest, moving as much metal he could and quickly opening his path to get to the agent. The agent was in his seat, eyes shut. There was a piece of metal piercing near his waist through his body. Robotnik’s stomach did a full 360, he had no idea what the hell to do.

“Grab his shoulder, Doc. We need to get him out, this thing might blow.” Robotnik nodded, unsure when he started taking demands from a rodent, and hauled Agent Stone out of the robot. The metal was still in him, but Robotnik knew better than to pull it out. He would easily die of blood loss. He laid him in the grass and looked around. He saw his swarm of badnik’s coming in the distance, and began to plot what he was going to do next.

“We can’t do the hospital, we can’t do a clinic…” He muttered, looking down at his agent. “I’ve.. I’ve got to do it myself.” The dawning realization scared him.

“Get him home, I’ll be back, okay?” Sonic zipped off without Robotnik being able to protest. Robotnik began cursing and feeling his rage for the rodent rise more and more.

Once the badniks were there, he picked up Agent Stone bridal style and ordered them to go under his arms to help support his agent's weight. He went as fast as he could to the apartment Stone owned.

He felt the stares from the people. He didn’t like it, but he tried not to pay much mind. Robotnik was the terror of the town, and it was very unlike him to just be taking a stroll through town. Well, with probably a near dead body in his arms and badniks surrounding him. People in his way took mind and parted very quickly, so there wasn’t much to slow down.

He got to Agent Stone’s apartment, which reminded him of a quaint town home, and broke the knob entering. Robotnik couldn’t bother with finding the keys or trying to open properly. He made a beeline to the bed and laid the agent down very gently. The blood instantly seeped into the bed’s sheets, but he didn’t care. He began to take off the other man’s shirt as delicately as he could, he was nervous about touching him. He was effectively a piece of glass. Under the shirt, he saw something that made the doctor groan. It was the agent’s ace bandages across his chest. He had forgotten.

The doctor knew that the agent was transgender, he never cared about it however as he was an effective assistant. All that really worried him about this is that he knew the bandages would eventually  severely hurt Stone. Robotnik offered many, many times over the past year to help pay for his top surgery, but Stone was always skittish about the subject. Stone mentioned he already had something planned, and told the doctor to stop worrying. Eventually, he stopped pressing, and quite clearly nothing ever happened with that appointment.

There was a knock, and a call within the house.

“Hey, yo, Robotnik?”

Who the hell was in the apartment?

He swiftly left the room and came into contact with none other than Tom and Maddie Wachowski. Sonic stood awkwardly in front of them.

“What the fuck-”

“Look, I’m sorry I did this Doc. I uh.. I told them and they raced here.” Tom bapped Sonic on the other side of the head, “Oww, what was that for?”

“Why are you sorry, Sonic?” Tom asked through gritted teeth, clearly not in the best mood.

“Ugh, fine! I’m sorry I hit your stupid robot and hurt your precious agent, are you happy?”

“Look, I don’t need either of your help-” He began defensively, but Maddie cut him off.

“Hey, look, I know we aren’t really all friends but let us help you, help him. I know I’m a vet but my knowledge for all this stuff is more than probably either of you, let us see him,” He voice was calming, but he was on edge. He glared at all of them, then turned on his heel and walked into the bedroom. He heard them following. They all stood around the bed, and the couple were in shock at the state of the assistant. Robotnik took a shuddering breath and looked away.

“My robot failed. I.. I was stupid to test it out when your rat child decided it was a great idea to slam into the damn thing without us provoking first!” He seethed, glaring down at Sonic, “You’re fucken lucky your parents are here you space-”

“Okay! Enough!” Tom announced, “Just go get all the first aid stuff for us, will you Doc?”

“I’m going to ignore that order and just grab it on my own volition,” He huffed and left the room. He was jittery and shaken, he realized. He grabbed his first aid kit and behind it, found a huge whole stack of ace bandages. The doctor narrowed his eyes on them, he’d have to burn them after all this so the agent would stop using them. Or maybe he should just buy the agent a binder.

When he went back into the room, he saw the couple whispering to each other. They seemed to be fighting over something but instantly stopped when he entered. He raised an eyebrow but dropped all the stuff he had on the other side of the bed.

“That’s all he had. You better be delicate with him because if he gets more injured because of you lunatics-”

“We’ve got him, Robotnik. Why don’t you just… sit back, yeah?” Maddie cut him off, waving him to stand on the other side of the room. The doctor had enough being pushed around, and grumbled his way to the other side of the room. He slid down the closet and watched them work.

First, they cleaned around the wound and at the injury. Then, slowly and steadily took the metal piece out of him. They were lucky it was a straight piece of medal, and not jagged. The blood began to spill everywhere, and Robotnik started to hyperventilate. He was terrified of losing the only person who ever stuck by his side. Sonic eventually came up and offered a hand to him silently, giving him a small smile. The doctor stared at it warily, but eventually took it. He left the room.

The couple continued working, applying as much pressure to the wound as possible. Tom opened the closet to find clothes they could tear up to help keep the pressure, and not just the bandages. He dug in, and found at the back a few dresses. They were very small, not something that the Agent could wear anymore due to his muscles. He snagged them and tore them apart. Tom walked back to Maddie and she gave him a weird look.

“Why does he have bright pink dresses in his closet?”

“I’m telling you, he’s a she!” He whispered back.

“Tom, do not give me that bull crap. He’s a he, no matter what he once was. Give me the clothes,” She snatched the clothes and balled it up and put it on the wound. Almost instantly the cloth soaked up all the blood.

“Well, we did him a solid anyway. Those dresses were hideous,” Tom remarked as Maddie began to wrap around the wound with ace bandages. She rolled her eyes, but made no comment.

“Go get Robotnik, I want to figure out what’s going on here and why there’s more bandages on his chest. Can’t have any injuries go unchecked.” Tom nodded and called for the man.

Robotnik had been sitting on the couch with Sonic. Neither of them had said anything since they walked in together. The doctor was becoming keenly aware of his own injuries though, as his shoulder couldn’t move without a mass amount of pain. He got up obediently, his eyes glossed over with fear and grief. He entered the room.

“Hey, Doc, was this you that dressed this today, or was that already a wound he had? It’s on pretty tight and it might damage his spinal cord, if it hasn’t already,” Maddie asked, pointing towards Stone’s chest.

“That’s none of your concern, Maddie,” Robotnik answered stiffly, taking the agent's side of the bed.

“I told you-” Tom started and that’s when Maddie glared and pointed towards the door.

“Out, you don’t know social cues,” She stated simply, as if she’s done it before. Tom sighed and left the room without argument.

“Look… Robotnik, we need to get this off him. It isn’t healthy to wear ace bandages, and sure as hell not healthy for wearing them as tight as they are.”

Robotnik sighed and pinched his nose. He was shaky and didn’t know what to do. He didn’t want to break his trust but they had to do it for him.

“Give me the scissors,” He muttered. Maddie nodded and handed them to him from the first aid. With shaky hands, he cut right in the middle of the chest. Then, the duo moved to cut the middle part of his back.

“Okay, I’m going to say this nicely since you did so much for him, but please, leave. I… don’t tell another living being about this, okay?” He looked up at Maddie, who nodded in understanding.

“Keep an eye on his vitals, he’s lost a lot of blood. You’re going to need to take him to a hospital or care facility eventually, I don’t know if the cloth we used could get him infected.” Robotnik nodded. He really didn’t want to use the hospital, fearing that G.U.N would come after him and take him away from the doctor. Maddie took her leave and it wasn’t long until Tom and Sonic left too.

The doctor sighed, looking at the bed. It was stained through and through with blood, so he went into the closet and grabbed another blanket. He just felt like the agent needed something warm whenever he woke up. If he woke up.

Robotnik stopped his train of thought, he couldn’t take losing his agent. He needed to live. He would live.

The doctor positioned the blanket as much as he could under the boy and then collapsed with exhaustion near Stone. He placed an arm under his head and watched Stone as he slept, unconscious and probably with a concussion. Without thinking, he grabbed Stone’s arm and extended it out. He placed his fingers on the mans wrist, and listened to the heart beat. He closed his eyes, and slowly fell asleep.
