Red handed Jill

Chapter 1

Red handed Jill adjusted her short blond curls in the broken mirror and touched a small scar on her cheek with a scowl. It had been years since Peter had given her that mark, but every-time she looked in the mirror she felt the bitter sting of betrayal return to its throne in the depths of her heart.

She opened her old chestnut wardrobe and pulled out a sage green dress and a red coat. She quickly got dressed and took out a bottle of rum she had swiped from James ship when he wasn’t looking. She took a swig and threw the empty bottle against the wall so hard that it shattered. She then opened up the door of her captains quarters and watched with pride as men scurried across the deck to stand at attention and await her orders.

“Tigerlily has informed me that Peter Pan had taken a new story teller.” She bellowed. “We must free her before she becomes like…” she looked bellow, scanning the faces of the men before her. All of them were formal lost boys. While Neverland was a place where you could live forever because it could stop you from growing old- it didn’t always stop you from growing up. And there was nothing Peter Pan hated more than growing up. “Like us.” Jill finished.

There were nods and murmurs of agreement. Many had scars of their own. Reminders that Peter was a killer when the child like wonder was gone., when his memory of you was gone, and when his love for you was gone.

Jill touched her cheek again with her finger tips and the scar greeted her gentle touch with its rough exterior. When she was young her mother would tell her that that was the spot her secret kiss occupied. It had been beautiful and it was something to be desired. Now it was hidden under an ugly scar given to her by the same boy she had given her kiss to so long ago.

“Captain Jill-“ Shakes, her first mate implored, interrupting her thoughts. His scruffy brown hair laid carefully over the side of his face, hiding the cavity that used to hold his right eye.

“Yes Shakes?” Jill asked.

“W-what about Captain Hook ma’am?” He stuttered. The crew held their breath. Keeping Hooks name off Jill’s ship was an unspoken rule. But Shakes had a good reason to break it.

If they were going after Peter they were bound to run into him and his crew. Especially since Hook was always after Peter. He was chasing a vengeance that would never be quenched and that Jill had long ago stopped trying to understand.

“We’ll deal with him when the time comes.” She replied simply. “He’s after a boy, I’m after his captives.”

“Surely he’ll want her in order to set a trap like he did with-“

Jill shot him a glare and Shakes closed his mouth. Like he had with her. That’s what he was going to say. Shakes was going to bring up her child hood. Her naivety. The prolog of her sad little story.

“We won’t let him. The girl needs her parents- not an empty place to fantasize about.” Jill snapped and the crew nodded in silence. “Now then, Peter is a creature of habit. We know where he resides and we know that he gets bored much quicker than the average young boy. If we take her while he’s gone and give her back to her family- he’ll soon forget she ever existed.”

The crew murmured in agreement.

“Just like he’s forgotten all of us.” Jill whispered mostly to herself. And even though Jill knew that Shakes had caught her final remark- he showed no sign of it on his face.

“I want Osprey on lookout for when Peter leaves. Then, when Bear receives the all clear, he can can take five men and head to land.” She turned to Bear an Osprey- her preverbal north and south.

Osprey was a small woman with dark brown short hair and dark eyes. Bear was an imposing large blonde man who had to duck to get into doors and had light blue eyes the color of sea glass. They were polar opposite’s in every way- but the were also her best duo. They were able to cover each other’s weaknesses and loved each other madly and deeply.

Bear had found Osprey lost and alone and abandoned. She had been Peters second story teller and Jill had been too inexperienced to take her in. But she was able to add her to her crew later down the line. When Jill finally did figure out her own way and all the ins and outs of Neverland- Osprey was beyond caring and had decided to stay by Bears side for all of time.

“I want her brought safely here… and I want her asleep if at all possible. They fight less when they’re asleep and will usually chalk it all up as an odd dream once they’re back home.” Jill continued on. “But I don’t want anyone going on land until Peter is fully preoccupied. No need to add more risk to the mission than necessary.”

They nodded and Bear left her to go and pick out his five men team.

“What will you do Captain?” Osprey asked tilting her head suspiciously.

Jill breathed out heavily though her nose. “I will take a small skiff and make a deal with Ja-“ she heisted and corrected herself. “Hook. No one is going to stand in my way this time. We’re not losing anyone to his agenda.”

Osprey smirked. “Steal more rum while you’re at it?”

Jill chuckled. “I’m sure I can manage that.”
