Chapter Text
Of all the things the S Tier villain could do, of all of the cheesy pickup lines, the bloodcurdling violence, of everything that Alex was capable, this? Morgan was dumbfounded.
Sure, Alex had paused in fights before to help them, to make sure they were safe. Accidentally spared a hero here or a hero there when Morgan was in a jam, but this?
Morgan was physically fine. Rattled, but fine. And Alex-
They are more important than you will ever be . Yellow eyes didn’t even bother to hold the A Tier heroes’ gaze when Alex had said it. It wasn’t fear that had him looking away, but an utter lack of import in his mind. He had already turned around to walk towards Morgan and they- they were rattled by their parents but they were stunned by Alex.
The A Tier heroes both saw this as an opportunity, a weakness on Alex’s part, and moved to attack. Morgan stood up and held out a hand, shouting, adrenaline spiking. “Alex!”
He waved a hand without looking back at the two and they were thrown across the field. Grabbed Morgan’s hand and pulled them close. “Yes, Morgan?”
They let out a choked laugh, looking over Alex’s face. The villain's freckles were underneath a fine spray of blood from the battle before their parents had arrived. They wiped a finger across and smeared the red across the constellations. Wanted to kiss every single reddish brown spot speckled across Alex's face. And elsewhere. “C-can we go home?” Morgan was glad - so glad - that Alex understood as they were immediately back at their apartment, messy and strewn with plans for their latest heist.
“Are you okay?” Alex’s voice rang clear throughout the small space. Morgan slowly sat down on their couch, trying to recalibrate. Trying to think clearly to come up with some witty response. But those words. They are more important . They looked up at Alex. They were looking worriedly, standing there full of care and longing and absolute murderous intent if Morgan said they wanted their parents off the no-kill list. “Morgan-”
“Most people would just take me on a date.” That was all they had managed to come up with, since their brain had short circuited. And there he was, the Alex they knew. Blushing underneath the blood splatter and mouth open unsure how to respond. Morgan laughed again, this time sounding giddy . “Did you hear what you said to them? To my parents ? You’re-never-going-to-amount-to-anything Sarah and Edward Sterling? At-least-as-a-sidekick-your-death-will-be-meaningful Spitfire and Whitestar?”
Alex had sat on the coffee table so they were face to face with Morgan. The D Tier villain was playing with the scrunchy that was on their wrist, twisting it nervously. “Do you want me to go back and maim them? I’ve gotten really good at maiming without accidentally killing.”
“No.” Their hand shot out to grab Alex’s wrist, the other rubbed their forehead. “ No . You- you told them that I- that you- that I matter. More. Than them.”
Realization didn’t dawn on Alex’s face. They looked, at most, like Morgan was stating the obvious. “What do a couple of A Tiers matter? If I wanted to, I could think them out of ever existing.”
“And? You could do that to me, to the whole human race.”
“I would never do that to you. You’re my… partner. In crime.”
“Alex you fucking idiot, you aren’t listening to me.” At that they looked - briefly - annoyed. Morgan paused and thought about what they wanted to say next.
When that took longer than the S Tier had patience for, they raised an eyebrow. “You’re not talking.”
“Shut up. You’re the most important person to ever existed.”
“According to many people, if you count infamy, yes.”
“What did I just say?” Alex rolled their eyes but did listen to Morgan and stopped talking. “And you just told my parents that they don’t matter and I do.”
After a brief period of silence, Alex responded. “Yes, we’ve covered that. You’re the only person that really matters. Well, you and my parents.”
“You dumbass.” Morgan pulled them into an almost kiss then paused, leaning away slightly. “C-can I kiss you?” Alex was wide-eyed. Red in the face and completely incapable of speech at that moment. “I- you flirt a lot but. You said you’re ace and I want- to make sure.”
“What did I just tell you? Idiot.” Alex pulled them against their lips, and they were. They were Alex, sharp and warm and teeth and tongue but still weirdly gentle and soft for the most feared person in all the universe. Morgan tasted a slight copperiness to the kiss, blood, but mostly it was just Alex .
When they finally pulled away Morgan was out of breath and Alex looked so flustered they might just turn into a cat to avoid ever talking about what had just happened if it weren’t for the fact that Morgan had asked first.
Alex was the one who spoke first, running a hand through their hair, and even then it was just one word. “ Fuck .”
Morgan laughed, it was that giddy one again, and dragged Alex onto the couch with them. The tangle of limbs meant that Alex was pinned, even if the smaller person could easily have removed themself from the situation. They were clearly more than content with what was going on. “I do expect you to take me on that date, though. You won’t get out of that.”
