Love Letter

Summary:

Eddie finally sends his first card to Vengeance.

Work Text:

"Dat's not exactly a normal call to da police, but... I guess it works!"

Jason giggled as he observed his host write meticulously the end of his love letter.

"Are you sure Vengeance will understand?" Stephanie checked, a skeptical expression painted onto her features. "What's gonna happen if he doesn't figure your clues out?"

"Oh, he will. He is... smart. Incredibly so. There's a reason I deem him worthy to be my partner."

The children shared a quick glance.

"Does dat mean we are smart, too? And that it's why ya appreciate us?"

Edward thought it through.

He finally settled for the best line of conduct: sending romantic cards to the GCPD, tagged 'To the Batman', with a riddle inside which whose answer is either a location or a name, to frame the followers who actively worked with him to place the bombs and planned on shooting the new Mayor on the night of the elections.

He won't denounce corruption by leaving dead bodies behind, he will rather help the Bat prevent former allies from going on with their own version of the Riddler's initial scheme.

"More than 'smart', you are... unique," he dithered for the adorable and hyper-energetic kids who squat in his flat. "You stopped me from committing a disaster and you... keep what's left of my mind together. I could never thank you enough."

Ed tried to pretend he didn't cry when Jay and Steph hugged him, babbling and laughing, always supportive and proud of everything he does. Eddie wondered what he did to end up lucky enough he crossed paths with two precious angels who watch over him.
