Chapter 1: Welcome.

Chapter Text

Palid petals flutter down, spring at its full beauty, alas – welcoming the new students to the school life. Youthful voices all over, some fresh ones, others not so much but in equal enthusiasm. The year begins once more for students in Namimori, however, this time around, it wasn't over that old and now too small building for middle schoolers, no – this was the city's highschool. One of the other besides the all-girl one, that is. Among the sea of freshly ironed uniforms, a mane of brown hair made its way along the flow of the first day of school. His face was still stuck between one of a child and one of a teen, an air of gentleness mixed with unexplained nervousness.

Sawada Tsunayoshi, 16 years old. No-good Tsuna for some with a wicked sense of humour, or just Tsuna, for the friendly ones. His smile wavering between happy and nervous, or to be more precise, excruciatingly terrified. Starting highschool was rather taxing on his mind, as he weighed the goods and bads. On the good side, it was a fresh start, maybe a chance to pull himself out of the No-Good Tsuna curse he dreaded for 3 years in middle school. However, as per usual, he would also think the worst, like completely fooling himself to the point of becoming something worse than his previous nickname. Bad luck was bound to cross his path rather easily, much to his dismay.

A voice, full of a husky yet gleeful emotion, broke him out of his negative contemplation. The Sawada turned just a bit after a light yelp, quickly recognizing the ever loyal, respectful tone. A shiny silver with eyes of same hue, smiling rather energetically just because of the other teen's presence.

"Ah – Gokudera-kun. Good morning." Smiled slightly stiffened, knowingly that this friendly demeanor of his good friend would last for about a couple of minutes.

"Good mornin' as well, tenth!" Gokudera Hayato, 16 years old. Also a freshman within this school grounds. As expected, his bad boy style followed him even past the barrier of middle school graduation. Although, he still somehow managed to seem rather elegant in his own punkish ways.

"Looks like you guys also made it early for the entrance ceremony, haha!" A third voice dropped by, cheerful and with a laid-back tone, causing one soft giggled smile and one very intense scowl. Yamamoto Takeshi, 16 years old. The last piece of this misfit trio that one could hardly imagine it working in such harmony. Yet, there they are, still good friends, close knit, after some accountable years.

The exchange of good mornings were a mix of relaxed laughs, some complaints and a stuttering begging to not make a scene so early in the day. Yet, at the sight of the school's entrance, Tsunayoshi had slowed his pace to contemplate the new phase in his life that was about to start. A frown kindly touched his brows. "Ahh, I'm getting nervous already." Confessed, to no one's surprise.

Yamamoto laughed lightly, patting his friend's shoulder. "Come one, it's going to be fun!" Reassured, mostly because it seemed like fun already in his olive eyes.

"You are goin' to be fine, Tenth, you have me by your side. Highschool will be a breeze." For once agreeing with the baseball player – well, not quite. It was most of ignoring his statement and making a cheering on his own. His enthusiasm, surely, was shared. Highschool meant many things, but atop of his list was spending more quality time with his 'boss'.

With a (slightly encouraged) nod, Tsuna took the first steps into the school gates, the pink petals of the cherry blossoms falling behind, in a poetic welcome.

The entrance ceremony was standard at most, first years already divided by classes like second and third. Unknown faces, some vague familiar ones, but between the three classes split among the newcomers and older students, very well known friends sat comfortably, with meeting eyes and sneaked hand waves. One of those were the members of the Simon Family, who simply decided to continue through their studies in Namimori. Kozato Enma, in his less tattered face, shot a soft smile to his friend Tsunayoshi from his seat next to Shitt P. in 1-C class, as to which the Vongola smiled back. The duo of local losers has become closer over the last years. One other familiar face was Irie Shoichi, who was stranded in the 1-A class by himself. His choice of going to Namimori High instead of placing his good wits on another private school took many by surprise but perhaps, the memories the red-haired teen had from the long future encouraged him to try and establish a more solid relation with the Vongolas and allies.

The usual trio got lucky enough to share the classroom again, 1-B. But to Tsuna's disappointment, both Sasagawa Kyouko and Dokuro Chrome ended up in 1-A. To his comfort, he was glad the two girls ended up together. He knew better how much Chrome appreciated her friendship with the orange-haired Sasagawa. The middle-school idol was a remedy for the lonely hearts.

The ceremony lasted about an hour, at most. Having such lengthy speeches about bright futures, nurturing passions and developing brains, and whatever attempt of an inspiration inducing metaphor the principal could pull off. On the other hand, the Student Council President, along with his vice by his side, spared the new students with a simple but warm welcoming. He, by just the looks, seemed like a reliable and nice guy. It felt, for once, nice not to be threatened to be Bitten to Death first thing in the morning. For a second, Tsunayoshi wondered what was of Hibari. He surely was forced into Highschool when the brunette began his third year in middle school, as the Disciplinary Committee President was past due his age. The thought, however, died soon as the Student President mentioned the existence of the feared Committee in an attempt of a joke to warn the first years.

Tsunayoshi whined in silent fear, as Gokudera only tsk'ed while Yamamoto laughed softly at the topic. Hibari was still on the loose.

With everything said and done, the ceremony was over and students began to scatter to their respective places, while teachers directed the newly arrived with precise indications on how to proceed. With the new information, the misfit trio began to walk their way to their new class, not before Tsuna spotting a familiar baby form in the corner of his eye, alas, upon turning around, he couldn't find the suited-up cause of his perpetual problems. Perhaps, the excitement of the new year has gotten into his nerves. One could never know, however, what would be with Reborn still being around in his life.

Yet, Tsuna convinced himself over again that he left Reborn at home as he offered himself to help Nana around.

On the way to class, the young Vongola accidentally bumped into someone by the second he got distracted between chitchats and deep thoughts. Upon looking to his side, he nervously dropped a flustered apology at you.

"Don't sweat it." You waved off with no trouble, shooting a friendly smile. Letting the trio continue their path. Tsuna sneaked a glance at your standing form, a hint of curiosity in his earthly eyes. You, on the other hand, stood still, gazing at the back of the three under classmates. A smile decorating your face with a level of amusement.

"Seems like it's going to be a fun year." Chuckled to yourself. You looked forward to the eventful future to come as you turned on your heel to continue your way back to your class, humming some folk song from some old story you loved.
