Work Text:
You are exhausted. Sleep has been evading you for at least a week now, nights spent tossing and turning with no discernible good reason. You might get a few hours but it wasn’t the good deep REM sleep that you needed to feel properly rested. You had even tried one of the moondrops the gift shop near the daycare sells. One of your coworkers had passed it to you and said it worked wonders for them but you think that it must be some kind of placebo effect or something because it didn’t do shit for you.
Sleep would be nice. But sadly it certainly is not for you. You’ll crash eventually. You just hope it doesn’t cause you to miss a shift.
You step into the Plex to get on shift, yawning as you pass by the security bots that were near the entrance. You know your shirt is a little more wrinkly than it should be, tie not quite on right, shoes not completely polished to a shine, but whatever Vanessa, and by extension Fazbear Entertainment, can suck it. You shuffle towards the nearest clock-in station and swipe your security card lazily at it.
“No shift scheduled, please check with your manager.” The automated voice tells you, making you blink at the terminal confused. You swipe your card again. “No shift scheduled, please check with your manager.” Is repeated to you.
“Huh…” You mumble, rubbing at your eyes as you pull up your schedule on your phone. Trying to get through the fog to understand why you aren’t supposed to actually be here today. You look at the schedule you’d saved to your phone. “No… I should be on shift… Right?” You mumble to yourself.
“Isn’t today one of your days off?” You startle slightly, glancing up to find Moon staring down at you, eyes narrowing slightly in a squint.
“No? It’s Wednesday.” You frown at him.
“…It’s Friday.” He says flatly, eyes glowing a bit brighter for some weird reason. “…You haven’t been sleeping properly have you. How many days?” Moon suddenly straightens up, crossing his arms as he stares you down.
“It’s been a few…” You say cautiously, not sure what the lunar animatronic is going to do. “I can tough it out though. I’m sure I’ll get back on schedule tonight.” You wave your hand, dropping your security pass in the process. “Whoop.” You bend down to swipe the card off the ground but Moon moves faster than you do, quickly swiping it and holding it well out of your reach between two fingers.
“Now, now, none of that. You are going to get some rest, Starlight.” He puts the hand not holding the card out to you. “Let’s go.”
“Huh? I mean I need my security card back, Moon. So I can go home and do that. I can’t take you with me.” You huff, making a lazy swipe for your card. You didn’t even bother jumping for it. Moon just shakes his head at you.
“Absolutely not. You are in no state to drive.” He says simply.
“I can’t stay here, Moon, you know that.” You stifle a yawn behind your hand. “Against the rules.”
Moon flashes you a grin, “Oh actually, Starlight, there’s a little clause in your contract. I can make you stay here if I believe you are a danger to yourself or others.” His head tilts from side to side as you take that statement in.
“Whuh?” You so eloquently ask the lunar animatronic jester holding your security pass captive. Moon suddenly has a wide grin as he makes a noise akin to clearing his artificial throat.
“Section 41, subsection 7, article B: Any employee on the premise of Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex that has been deemed unfit to function is required to rest until deemed capable of proceeding with duties. All security passes will be confiscated so the employee stays on the premises and will be returned once deemed fit to proceed with duties. Employee’s may use designated areas for resting including breakrooms, medical areas, and outside of operating hours the daycare should the Daycare Attendants be willing.” Moon rattles off. You honestly only catch the last bit about the daycare as you sway slightly on your feet, having to catch your balance again.
“Daycare Attendants be willing, hmm?” You hum, “Sounds like you have to check in with Sunny there.” You mumble.
“Already have.” Moon’s grin stays in place. “Now you can walk on your own with me, or I will carry you, but you are coming to the daycare.” Moon’s tone doesn’t leave room for argument but you end up whining slightly, already set to complain about the need for him to do any of what he’s attempting. Sleepless you ends up being quite the contrarian when it comes to things you don’t want to do.
“Moon. No. Lemme go home. Come on. Pass. Please.” You lean into him, trying to reach up for your pass on your tiptoes, but Moon easily keeps it out of your reach.
“Carry you it is.” He suddenly says and wraps an arm around you, holding you to his side like a sack of potatoes.
“Moooooooooooooon.” You whine, squirming in his hold, but he easily ignores you, keeping his grip on you with practiced ease from wrangling squirmy toddlers during the operating hours of the daycare.
“If you stop squirming I will give you a moondrop.” Moon offers, somewhat teasingly as he foregoes the slide entry and makes his way to the faux wood gates. You sigh heavily and let yourself go limp. It’s really not worth the effort of you struggling so much. Moon’s got too good of a hold on you. Plus you don’t have the energy to run away at the moment to find a hiding spot.
“See not so hard is it?” He chuckles.
“Didn’t even work, was just candy, liked the taste though.” You mutter sullenly as he enters the daycare.
“Hmm…” Moon frowns down at you, not that you actually see it since you were too tired to bother lifting your head up, you felt it more than anything. “Some people find they need a second one sometimes.” He shrugs, moving you in the motion.
“Only had one, was gonna think about purchasing more but ehhhh…” You grumble, wanting to be let down now.
“Mhm.” He hums, distracted by something as he takes you over to the nap corner.
“Moon?” Wow that does not sound like the Sunny you know, voice quieter than normal, almost sounds like a slowed down tape. You find a touch of energy to lift your head up and stare at the solar animatronic that’s making his way over to the corner too. Sun sways, but not in the normal playful manner you’re used to seeing, it’s far more tired.
He kinda looks like how you feel.
“You good, Sunny?” You ask, words dragging out around another yawn that sneaks up on you.
“Sun didn’t charge properly last night.” Moon sighs, gesturing for his sibling to get comfortable on the oversized bean bag chair that normally resides in their room. Once Sun is laying on it, Moon passes you over to him to lay on top of Sun’s torso, putting Sun’s arms over your waist.
“Hold this.” Moon says before going to grab some stuff.
“Silly Sunny, you’re supposed to charge, how did you even survive today?” You ask, getting comfortable against him.
“It was tough to keep up with the kiddos today.” Sun groans, “Thankfully they didn’t get too rowdy. Moony kept them in line.”
“Wasn’t like you were going to be able to.” Moon lightly teases, plugging a cable into an outlet before tapping Sun to expose the charging port on his back so Moon can plug him in. Once Sun’s settled back down he throws an oversized blanket across the both of you, lightly tucking you in before passing you two of the moondrops.
“I told ya they didn’ work.” You mumble.
“They will.” He hums, “Trust me?” He snickers lightly at your scowl.
“Last time you asked me that I found myself forty feet above the ground clinging to you in a death grip.” You snark at him but take the candy anyway. Might as well, right?
“You wound me, Starlight.” Moon puts a hand to his chest in mock offense.
“Last time he said that to me he shoved me off the balcony.” Sun grumbles.
“See you just aren’t very trustworthy.” You joke around the candy in your cheek.
“And here I was about to read you a bedtime story.” Moon sighs sullenly, playing up his disappointment.
“What if I don’t want a bedtime story?” You say, about to pull a bit of a devious card. “What if… What if I want a lullaby.” You ask, glad you’ve finished off the moondrops already as another yawn hits you.
“…” Moon squints at you.
“C’mon… Prettiest of pleases?” You ask with a smirk, figuring this would be your one and only chance to get the lunar jester to sing for you. He’d been refusing for ages, switching to humming instead of singing whenever you were around so you would only get a few seconds. He has a nice voice, you deserve to hear it dammit!
“C’mon, Moony, I like your lullabies too.” Sunny mumbles behind you.
“…Fine. Just this once. So you both don’t ask again.” He crosses his arms with a huff.
“Boo.” You stick your tongue out at him, adjusting your position slightly on the solar animatronic.
“Don’t complain or I won’t sing.” Moon gives you a light glare. You make a show of pantomiming you zipping your lips and throwing away the key, earning yourself an eye roll but Moon does relax his position.
Moon has the loveliest singing voice. Soft and warm, no wonder the kids settle easily for nap time. You listen for a long time, feeling your eyelids grow heavier and heavier until they don’t open again.
Moon finishes singing once he’s sure you’re asleep, breath even and slow, heart rate lowered. He chuckles quietly to himself seeing Sun’s out as well. Sleeping through his recharge. He quietly gets up to plug in his own charger cable and lays on his side next to Sun, watching you and Sun sleep until he has to go on patrol.
