Chapter Text

You couldn’t lie, summer wasn’t your favorite season.  But, what you did love about it, was rainstorms.  You’d swear up and down that summer thunderstorms were the best kind of thunderstorms.  The way the rain usually melted away the heat.  The smell of the rain.  God, it really was everything to you.

It was late at night and you weren’t sleeping, so you got up and walked onto the small front porch your house had.  It wasn’t much, but it was yours and Billy’s and nobody else’s.  That’s what made it special.  Your legs dangled down the steps to the walkway as you leaned back and looked up at the sky.  You could see, even in the darkness, the clouds brewing up for a storm.  You’d heard on the news a mention of a storm, and you thrilled it was coming.

When the first pelts of rain began, soft and more like a pitter patter against your roof and the gravel walkway, your grin only got bigger.  It was your favorite part of the summer, even if it was probably well past midnight then and you had work to go to in the morning.  This was your kind of night.

You got so distracted from watching the storm brew, the thunder and the sounds of the falling rain like a perfect soundtrack to calm you down, you didn’t notice Billy coming outside and taking a seat next to you.  You only realized he was next to you when you felt something hot hit your hand.  You flinched away from the contact but looked down to see a mug of hot coffee next to you and your boyfriend leaning on the porch railing looking at you as he sipped from his own mug.

“Heard the storm, figured you’d be out here.”  his voice was filled with that just woken up gravel texture that you loved.

You lightly rolled your eyes at him, but did take the mug and take a sip.  Just how you liked it.  “Thank you.”

“What is it with you and these storms?” he chuckled, shaking his head.  His eyes had turned to look at the lightning strikes lighting up the skyline in front of you too.  The rain was coming down steadily now, getting heavier as time moved on.  The air was cooling down around you, and you were thankful for the warm mug of coffee in your hands.

“I dunno.  Can’t explain it.  I guess maybe I’m just the kind of person who likes to dance in the rain.”  As you were speaking, you put the mug of coffee down onto the porch and jumped up in the rain.  You didn’t care that your pajamas were going to get soaked through as you spun around in the storm.

“You’re going to get sick!”  Billy shouted at you as you moved down the pathway to your house, twirling as you went.

“Nu-uh.”  you called back looking at him.  “If you’re so worried come and get me.”

You knew you had him, Billy always joined you eventually in the childish things you’d pull.  Not that he didn’t start his fair share of them ( baking with Billy, you wouldn’t make that mistake again ).

And, as lightning struck and lit up the sky, Billy pulled you back toward him and brought you down to the porch of your house, kissing you lightly and wrapping his arms around you for warmth.
