Notes:

Takes place right after "grasping up the mood" in the timeline. This AU explores some pretty dark themes, pls proceed with caution!

Work Text:

Yuta watched his husband leave the building, holding a deer hybrid by the elbow, Dejun and Hendery following right behind them. He made sure they got to the car and drove away, before letting out a shaky breath and finally relaxing into his car seat.

It’s not that he didn’t trust Sicheng. Or Kun’s boys. But he would much rather have Kun himself do those things - someone with years of experience, both diplomatic and combat wise. Kun, unfortunately, was temporarily out of the picture, so Yuta had to just trust Kun's well-trained brats to take good care of his husband, and stay close himself, to intervene if nesessary.

He checked his tablet - the tracking device was working well, now he just needed to wait for the traffickers to leave the building, and then follow them, to maintain the signal. Hopefully right to their base of operations, but even if not - they had the faces now, and the DNA. So much more than they had yesterday, and miles away from a couple weeks ago.

He wrote a quick text to Sicheng, praising him for doing well and staying alive, and then he dialed Taeyong.

"...this is wonderfull news," Taeyong's voice was calm and tired, yet the relief in it was evident, "Great job, Yuta. Now all we need to do is get the police involved."

"Yeah, that won't be a problem… Isn't Jungwoo a station chief or something?"

"Not yet, no," Taeyong chuckled, "It would be a little suspicious, if he moved through the ranks that quickly. But he has the entire station in the palm of his hand nontheless."

"Ah, what a kid. Do you want me to call him, or are you gonna?"

"I'll take it from here, don't worry. There will be a lot of technicallities to discuss anyway. Go home, you have a new hybrid to look after. And express my gratitude to Sicheng. His skills haven't paled a shade in these two years. Is he really sure he doesn't want to come back?"

Yuta sighed.

It was a complicated question that Taeyong, frankly, had every right to bring up. After all, it was him who made Sicheng, a quiet dancer with barely passable korean, into Winwin, the hearthrob of the Seoul underworld.

And yet, after earning enough money to successfully pay off his debts, securing some very useful friendships and marrying Yuta, Sicheng stepped away from the spotlight and left the syndicate in favor of running a flower shop and taking up yoga classes.

He was happy with that life, but was still quite flattered when Taeyong, Johnny, or Kun would come to him for advice. Even after all those years he seemed to be very immersed in the life of the syndicate, and Yuta wasn't sure whether it was because most their friends were criminals, or just because it was such a big, inceparable part of Sicheng's life he couldn't help coming back to.

"Well, he hadn't told me anything about it," he said, after an awkward pause, "And he had just placed an order for the delivery of orange daisies to his shop for the next season, so I doubt that he'll be changing occupation soon... But you know me, I'll be cheering for him nontheless."

"Of course you will be," Taeyong teased, "You're so whipped you're basically batter."

"Funny how you're saying that, hyung, after making the whole syndicate look for your boyfriend's little puppy crush."

"...fair," Taeyong replied, after a long moment of silence, "Alright, get going now. I'll keep in touch."

"You better," Yuta huffed out a laugh, "Oh, and remember - dinner, this Sunday! Chengie is making that chinese soup with little dumplings that you like. And Johnny will bring, like, so much soju."

"Yeah..." there was a rustling of paper, "I have it in my schedule."

"Just a reminder: the only valid reason for not coming is death."

"Oh, goodness."

"And bring the boys too! Dodo can definetly use a break from being a sad boy all the time."

"I'm hoping that by Sunday there will be no reason for him to be a sad boy anymore," Taeyong said, and Yuta smiled, because yeah, there it was, the whipped I-love-my-boyfriend-so-much-it-hurts voice that Taeyong used without even noticing, "Okay, I really have to go now. It's almost morning, and I have to finish up everything else before I call Woo."

"And what about sleep?"

"I have it on my schedule."

"Aish, you're insufferable. Good night, hyung. Keep me posted."

Notes:

Yuta&Taeyong = simps, there, I said it!

But on a more serious note: things are kind of starting to fall into places, right? Or at least they seemlike they do... Stay tuned to find out what happens next!
