Work Text:
Harry’s on tour for his album, “Fine Line” and he’s decided to surprise the fans with a new song called “Already Home”.
So Harry stands on stage with his mic in his left hand as he made his way towards a piano in the middle of the stage.
“You may all be wondering why this,” Harry stops to point at the piano, “is here.” The crowd screamed with excitement and confusion which made Harry’s heart burst with happiness.
“Thank you, thank you.” He chuckled into the mic as he pulled out a piano bench under the piano. He sat down onto the bench and set up his mic onto the mic stand on top of the piano and sighed. “I’ve decided to show you all a song I wrote a couple years ago, called ‘Already Home’. This song means a lot to me and I hope it’ll mean a lot to you all aswell.” He smiled as the crowd went wild. Harry put a finger up to his mouth to signal the crowd to shut up, and the crowd slowly died down. He put his right hand over his eyes, he was so overwhelmed with happiness. He is so happy and grateful for the situation he’s in because he knows most people aren’t as fortunate as him. He finally put his right hand down onto the piano and brought his left hand up to touch the piano keys. He took a deep breathe and began to sing.
“I’ve been waiting, every day since
The last time we met, I can’t forget what we parted ways with.”
He looked up at the crowd and smiled at all the beautiful faces in the crowd.
“I see your face and
Cant stop looking
I swear that these words haven’t been heard
In the way I mean them.”
He thought back to the person this song is about, his first love, Louis Tomlinson.
“Is this really happening?”
He smiled as he remembered when he told an interviewer “My first real crush was Louis Tomlinson.” with full honesty. He was his first real crush.
“This is really happening”
He knew Louis was his person as soon as they met. Harry’s smile began to fall as he remembered they got along so well that fans began to ship them which made their relationship go downhill.
“Can this keep on happening?”
It’s not like they didn’t have crushes on each other and loved eachother, it’s that management got in the way of their love.
“Together we’re alone, both of us agreeing”
Harry remembers them shit talking their management, especially Simon because of what he had done to the two boys.
“No one needs to know, that you’re already home.”
They sat on Harry’s couch, Louis cuddled up to Harry’s side as they watched a Disney movie. Harry couldn’t remember what Disney movie because his eyes were on Louis the whole time. Harry also recalled the times they snuck out of their hotel rooms to wander the streets and hold hands. (Which he still doesn’t know how they never got caught)
“You don’t have to go, but you’re already leaving”
Their first argument. Louis was scared of being caught. He didn’t want to know the repercussions that would come along with them disobeying their management.
“Can we start believing? You’re already home
You don’t have to go, ‘cause you’re already home”
The music began to pick up, just reminding Harry more of the boy.
“We can’t sleep in, for good reason
A bottle of wine, pretending its fine”
He sighed, remembering how much sadness came with being denied love.
“You breathe out
I breathe in”
Harry remembered when they began changing for the worse. Louis had Eleanor attached to his hip at all times and it destroyed Harry.
“We’ve been stealing
Moments, feelings”
They continued to attempt to meet up until Louis put a stop to it.
“We know it’s not right
Your car is outside with a cold seat in”
They argued for nights without end until Louis called a car and left.
“Is this really happening?”
The disbelief of what happened shocked Harry.
“This is really happening”
It’s like Harry was going through the stages of grief without Louis.
“Can this keep on happening?”
Louis was sick of not being with Harry so he gave in and called him.
“Together we’re alone, both of us agreeing”
They talked everything out, agreeing that they were the only ones for each other and that they were strong and could make it out of their mess.
“No one needs to know, that you’re already home
You don’t have to go, but you’re already leaving”
It was just the same thing over and over with them. They argued, one of them left and then they came back just to do it again. So when Louis left him for the last time, Harry told him to not come back.
“Can we start believing, you’re already home
You don’t have to go, cause you’re already home”
Louis moved in with Eleanor and made Eleanor his home. They didn’t leave one anothers house after arguing just to come back and do it again. Louis was home. Yes he was physically home with Eleanor, but he was home mentally for Harry.
“Oooh
You don’t have to go, cause you’re already home”
Harry sighed, his eyes glistening with tears as he looked onto the crowd of his fans that loved him- shit, maybe more than how Louis loved him.
He took a deep breath in and resumed singing
“In alleyways, and fire escapes, corridors, I see your face
From aeroplanes to the bullet trains, summer skies to the pouring rain”
Harry began to choke up. ‘Pathetic.’ He thought to himself. It’s been years, so why is he still caught up on Louis? Perhaps its the way he lost his other half the night Louis left and he hasn’t grown it back.
“All the future plans we’ll never make
From a beating heart to the farthest place”
He began to belt out lyrics, a bunch of emotion laced in his voice.
“You’re already home
You’re already home”
He held out the last note, tears threatening to fall.
Harry had to accept the fact that Louis isn’t home for him anymore.
So as the song finished, he stood up blowing kisses to the audience.
He looked around at the crowd and his eyes stopped on the VIP boxes at the top of the arena. He saw Louis. Faintly, but he was there. Home would follow where ever he went, he realized. He never stopped being home, his home was with him.
