Chapter Text

(More or less No Way Home happened in Defender!Strange’s universe too, because why not? It’s the multiverse, anything can happen)

New York was in chaos and ruin. Large multiversal cracks filled the sky and ground. The very fabric of reality tearing at the seams from a spell you had cast. In your defense, you did it for a good cause. You were trying to help Miles Morales out. Although maaaybe you should’ve consulted the currently ticked off Sorcerer Supreme fighting alongside you.

“None of this would’ve happened if you had asked me before you cast the spell!” Stephen snapped, forcing a small group of Ultron’s back through a rift. You stumbled backwards, trying to avoid having your face clawed off by the seven foot lizard in front of you.

“I’m sorry, okay? I admit, it wasn’t my finest moment,” You yelled back, blasting the monster with a fireball. It let out a deafening shriek as it scrambled away from you. In all honesty, yeah, you should’ve asked Stephen. But you knew he would’ve said no! Miles had suffered enough and he was barely seventeen. The kid didn’t deserve to have his face plastered across all of Earth marked as a murderer. You just wanted to give him a chance at a fresh start. How were you supposed to know altering the spell would make it tear apart the fabric of reality? They should’ve put the warning in the front of the stupid book!

“How do you propose we fix this?” You asked, dodging a shield that hurtled through a rift. Why did it have the British flag on it? Wasn’t that Captain America’s shield?

“Recast the spell!” Miles shouted as he webbing a Zombie Iron-Man variant to the side of the building across from you. You really hoped no one had been bitten. Stephen would never let you live this down if you started a zombie outbreak on top of nearly breaking reality.

“That should work. Although you do it this time, oh mighty Sorcerer Supreme. I’m pretty sure if I try I’ll screw it up worse,” You said, deflecting a spear from one of the silhouettes in the rift above you. What the-Was that guy seriously wearing a leopard pelt like a shawl?!

“Of course I have to clean up your mess,” Stephen retorted dryly. He began the motions for the spell, the golden rings covered in ruins forming around him. You let out a huff as you summoned twin daggers in your hands.

“I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that.”

You provided him with protection from the incoming variants while he worked. You were starting to drive them back and it looked like the spell was working! Variants were beginning to vanish as their memories were erased. Returning to their home realities.

You turned to check on Miles, unaware of the threat slowly slithering across the sidewalk below your feet. A tentacle wrapped around your middle dragging you backwards through one of the rifts. Your eyes widened upon seeing the large kraken like creature looming over you. You let out a slew of curses as you struggled to free your arms to cast a spell. You did not help defeat Thanos just to be eaten by a stupid squid! A purple shimmer rippled across its skin before it disappeared. You let out a breath of relief before scrambling to your feet. You made your way back towards the rift, only to run into an unseen wall. You stared at in in confusion before pressing your hands against it. Watching as a soft blue light formed beneath your palms. Oh, this wasn’t good. You were sealed in.

Miles landed in front of you having witness what happened. He wasn’t sure what to do. He had little experience with magic. I mean, the wall looked like glass. He could probably break it if he tried hard enough!

“Hang on, I’ll get you out,” Miles said, winding his fist back. He threw a punch with all his might, only to be knocked halfway across the street with a sizzling crack.

“Miles!” You cried. Your panic subsided a bit when he sat up looking dazed. Stephen glanced over from where he stood. His eyes widening upon finding you on the wrong side of the rift.

“What are you doing?!” He demanded, pausing the spell. You gestured to the blue wall that now separated you from your reality.

“I’m stuck, obviously!”

You saw a flicker of panic cross his face as he took a step back from his work.

“I’ll drop the spell.”

“No! We both know that’s a bad idea,” You argued. If he stopped now your dimension would shatter to pieces. It was already buckling from him stopping to talk to you.

“I can’t just abandon you in another world,” He said, the rings around him beginning to tremble from the strain. You tried to put on a brave face. Using humor in an effort to ease his fears as you always did.

“Yes you can. You forgot me at Walmart that one time.”

“Be serious for once!” He grimaced, his hands beginning to shake as the spell fought to break loose from his hold. You set your jaw, fixing him with your best stern look.

“I am being serious, Stephen. I’ll find a way back, I always do.”

“We know nothing of the multiverse! How do you know there’s even a way back?” He asked, desperation tinging his voice. He didn’t want to admit how terrified he was. For all he knew you’d be erased from existence when the spell completed. Or you’d wind up in some awful dimension where you wouldn’t survive. He couldn’t do that to you.

“Because I’m me! I broke reality once, I’m sure I can do it again,” You said, cracking a smile. You could see his arms straining as he fought to to keep the spell from going any further. He was no doubt trying to think of a loophole out of this to save you. Sadly, this once, he wasn’t going to be able to think his way out of a problem.

“Trust me, it’s going to be fine. We’ll meet again by the oak tree where you first met me,” You called. Tears glistened in his eyes as he tried to keep his voice from wavering.

"You promise you'll be there?"

You nodded, your smile beginning to falter. You had every intention of trying, but you had no idea if you’d be able to. Although after the mess you made you owed him an apology. That thought helped motivate you, giving you something to cling to. A purpose to get back.

“I promise. Now go save the world Doctor Stephen Strange!”

He gazed at you a moment longer before casting the final ruins for the spell. You took a step back watching the rift shrink, golden stitches forming along it as it sewed itself back together. The galaxy around you faded away to reveal a cityscape. You recognized some of the billboards with musicals on them overhead. Well, you were still in New York at least. Although it didn’t look much like your world.

“Now to keep my end of the promise,” You murmured, reading over the street signs. If you were correct Bleeker street was only about twenty minutes away. There had to be another Sanctum in this world, right? Maybe the Sorcerer Supreme here could help you. You started down the bustling sidewalk with one goal in mind. Getting back home.
