Amber Sugar was looking through the labyrinth seeking out memories to fix the greenhouse. There were a lot of memories, some bright, some dull, nonetheless he continued to persevere. Sugar Glass watched the busy bee look through each memory one by one. She was showing him around the labyrinth and explaining it the best she could. It was not like she knew how the place worked; all she knew was that memories are how the greenhouse works.
"There are some interesting memories here." Amber Sugar shouted, his voice echoed throughout the labyrinth.
"There is no need to shout, Amber Sugar… I can hear you just fine…" Sugar Glass informed Amber Sugar with her gentle voice.
"Sorry, my bad." Amber Sugar replies in a more softer tone. Sugar Glass smiled as Amber Sugar changed his tone to something more quiet. Amber Sugar looked at one memory that seemed to be glowing brightly. He carefully picks it up and brings it over to Sugar Glass.
"Sugar Glass, look how bright this memory is glowing," Amber Sugar showed her the memory he was holding. She looked at the memory and was mesmerized by it.
"Do you mind if I take a look?" Amber Sugar asked. Sugar Glass thought for a moment. She only met him not too long ago, but if he is able to help fix it then surely it would be fine. Sugar Glass nodded in acceptance. Amber Sugar took a look and saw a young cookie would seem to be practicing archery. The cookie seemed to be happy when he hit a bullseye. Amber Sugar smiled as the young cookie cheered at his success.
"It really is a sweet memory." Sugar Glass remarked as the memory finished. Amber Sugar looked at her to see a bright smile on her. It was truly beautiful.
"It sure is." Amber Sugar responded. It was only a few since the two of them met and Amber Sugar is already warming up to her, although he wouldn't say it out loud thinking; he would be embarrassed. Sugar Glass had to explain how the greenhouse works or what she at least knows. Amber Sugar came to the conclusion that bright and happy memories would be key to fixing the greenhouse. Sugar Glass let him take the idea and run with it since she didn't have much of a choice.
It was confusing to say the least, but it was fun looking for memories. Sugar Glass stated that most of the memories here exist before she was created by the wizard. Memories of ancients, legends, gods, ect can be found here. Amber Sugar found it fascinating.
Then a thought appeared in his head. If Sugar Glass had been here her entire life wouldn't there be memories of her in the labyrinth too? It wouldn't be weird to ask someone about their memories, after all he would get to know her better if he asked, "Hey, Sugar Glass."
"Yes, Amber Sugar?" She replied.
"May I ask, are your memories here before I came here? Surely they are here, you lived here your whole life." Sugar Glass' smile faded as she didn't know how to respond. It was hard to explain.
"I'm not sure…" Sugar Glass mumbled. Amber Sugar was confused by her statement. She is the safeguard of the greenhouse, how could the labyrinth not have her memories here.
"What do you mean? You're here in the labyrinth your whole life. How can't that be possible?" Amber Sugar question.
"The memories here are eventful… My entire life isn't eventful…" Sugar Glass responded. Amber Sugar was shocked. How!? How can her whole life have been uneventful? Surely something must have happened in her life.
"What?! That nonsense! I'm sure there is at least something in here." Amber Sugar shouted. Sugar Glass looks down, "Amber Sugar, I'm serious… My entire life is uneventful and I doubt there are any memories of mine here… All I did was just sit here and watch the greenhouse. It wasn't until you came here that something eventful happened..."
"No way. I refuse to think that you live a boring life," Amber Sugar didn't want to believe it. He knows that there is at least one memory of hers in this labyrinth and he will find it, "I'm sure there is at least something in here. I know it."
"Amber Sugar, I understand you don’t want to believe it, but it’s true no matter what… I’m sorry…” She apologized. Sugar Glass lowered her head trying not to make eye contact. Amber Sugar didn’t know what to say. He felt bad that Sugar Glass lived all her life alone with nothing taking place. It left a bad taste in his mouth, but he was determined to find at least one of Sugar Glass' memories.
"I think we should get going…" Sugar Glass said as she looked behind her shoulders and then fluttered away. Amber Sugar thought for a moment before looking at her and giving his response, "If it's alright with you, I'm gonna stay here for a bit longer."
Sugar Glass stopped as he finished his sentence, "I know you want to find my memories…" She quietly stated her back facing him. Amber Sugar was stunned that she knew what he was gonna do. Before Amber Sugar was able to say a word Sugar Glass continued, "But if you are willing to find them, go right ahead…"
Amber Sugar was given permission to explore the labyrinth in search of her memories. Sugar Glass turned around to see the surprise in his face. He was expecting her to say no.
"Trust me, I will find them and prove you wrong." Amber Sugar started with confidence. Sugar Glass gently smiled amazed at Amber Sugar's determination. Something she couldn't aspire to reach.
"Alright then, I will be in the garden if you need anything…" Sugar Glass continued to fly out of the labyrinth before stopping herself to give Amber Sugar one final message,"If I were you, I will look deeper in the labyrinth. You will find more of the older memories there. If you seek to find my memories, that would be a good place to start… Also, try not to get lost…"
Amber Sugar watched the butterfly fly out of the sight. He turned around to see the depths of the labyrinth. He nodded to himself before heading deep in the labyrinth. He carefully looked around making sure to not miss one. He looked high and low to find her memories, but so far no luck.
Amber Sugar was looking through some dull memories before something caught his attention from the corner of his eye. He turned around to see very bright memories. The color was a deep blood red color. It has blue sparks moving around the memory. Amber Sugar came closer and picked it up. He walked as the memory play and it showed Sugar Glass. Jackpot.
Amber Sugar was ecstatic to see one of Sugar Glass' memories, but as the memory played out his expression changed. The memory shows Sugar Glass covering her head as the greenhouse collapses. Glass fell from the ceiling and shattered on contact with the floor. She dodge most of the glass before one falls on her causing her to crash down onto the ground. Sugar Glass curled up into a ball and whimpered in fear that she was going to get hurt. It was heartbreaking to hear. Tears were rolling down her eyes, scared of what would happen. She was in a situation where she was suffering from something she couldn't stop. Slowly the greenhouse stopped collapsing, Sugar Glass looked around her surroundings before breaking down and crying out loud. Then the memory ended.
Amber Sugar's heart dropped. That was the most painful memory to watch. He couldn't stand to see her in that traumatic experience. It was made worse that Sugar Glass had to go through all of that alone. No one was there to help her, not even her creators. Was that the only eventful thing in her life? Was she hiding this? That thought left him with an uneasy feeling. There has to be a more positive memory. Amber Sugar looked around a bit more only to find nothing. He looked at the traumatic memory he was carrying before accepting the fact that this memory was the only eventful thing Sugar Glass has gone through.
He was right, there was a memory of Sugar Glass in the labyrinth, but he wished that it didn't exist. He sighs and carries the memory with him as he leaves the labyrinth. He was unsure if he should show Sugar Glass this because it might cause her to break down. After giving it much thought he decides to show her the memory. Just by looking at the memory Amber Sugar was carrying gave him a sense of dread.
Sugar Glass was tending to the flowers in the garden making them healthy. That's when she heard a buzzing noise. She turned around to see Amber Sugar standing there.
"Amber Sugar, you're back," Sugar Glass acknowledged his presence, " did you find my memories in the labyrinth?"
Amber Sugar hesitated to tell her the truth so he silently nodded his head. Sugar Glass lights up, happy to see that Amber Sugar has found one. Amber Sugar pulled out the memory and Sugar Glass came closer to take a look at it. She was amazed at the pretty shade of red. Before the memory started to play Amber Sugar needed to confirm something.
"Sugar Glass, were you hiding this from me?" Amber Sugar blurred out. Sugar Glass gave him a confused look, "No, not at all… I didn't think any of my memories would be here... Why do you ask?"
"It's hard to explain. I'm not sure if I should show you this memory." Amber Sugar looks at her to see the pure innocence in her eyes, but deep down she is suffering silently. Amber Sugar sighs, "this memory is not a happy one."
After he said that Sugar Glass realized what memory he was holding in his hands. She immediately felt overwhelmed and tears about to form.
"I think you know what this memory is." Amber Sugar said. Without thinking he extended his arm to give her the memory, "if you wanna see it can, but I'm not forcing you-"
"NO!" Sugar Glass smacked the memory out of his hand causing it to shatter on the floor. Amber Sugar looked at Sugar Glass and realized she was crying and quivering in fear, "I don't want to remember that! I don't want to remember that please! Please don't make me relive that again! I want to forget about it!"
She covered her head with her arm and curled up into a ball in fear. Amber Sugar helplessly watched as she panicked in fear of remembering those traumatic events again. He didn't know what to do. Amber Sugar was never in a situation where someone was crying in front of him. He couldn't stand to see her upset like this. It was heartbreaking.
Then, Sugar Glass felt something touch her shoulder. She filched, seeming she has never had any physical contact with anyone before. She looked up to Amber Sugar who was worried about her.
"It seems like you've been through a lot and it has affected you very much," Amber Sugar stated, "I may not understand what it's like to be in the situation you have been in, but I want to help you. You didn't have to go through all of that all alone, so now let's go through this together."
Sugar Glass looked at him unsure what to say. She has never been given words of comfort before. Then, Amber Sugar pulled her in for a hug. Sugar Glass didn't know how to react since she was never given this amount of physical contact, but she knew Amber Sugar was helping her. She silently cries occasionally letting out a few loud sobs. Amber Sugar patted her on the back to help ease her. He looked at the poor butterfly and reassured her that everything will be okay. Sugar Glass felt a sense of safety by being held by Amber Sugar. Safety that she never felt. The greenhouse was a hazardous place, but being around him made her feel safe. She grabbed on to him, holding on to him tightly. She didn't want to let go of him.
"Feeling any better?" Amber Sugar asked her. Sugar Glass looked up at and quietly nodded. He smiled at her before wiping her tears, "How about we talk about this more in your room. I promise it will make you feel better."
"Okay…" Sugar Glass responded before being pulled up by Amber Sugar. She held his hand as the two of them flew off to her room, "Thank you, Amber…"
"You're welcome, Sugar." Amber Sugar smiled. Here on out, Amber Sugar now had two goals in mind: fix the greenhouse and keep Sugar Glass safe and happy.
