Work Text:
Chrissy Cunningham is sitting next to Eddie Munson on their bench when she gets an idea.
They’ve been going steady a few weeks now, after she dumped Jason and survived a monster who looked like the freaky love child of Freddy Krueger and The Alien, and she’s never felt more herself. She’s never felt more free than when she kisses Eddie, when she holds his hand as they make their way to class and ignore the stares and whispers.
She’s better at it then him, seeing as at one point he was constantly asking to make sure that she’s happy and doesn’t want to break up. He stopped doing that around a month into their relationship, and now they’re both two weeks from graduation and happy as clams.
And they sit here at their bench every day after school, talking about everything and nothing. Currently, his head is in her lap and his eyes are closed as she runs a hand through his hair.
She leans down and kisses his forehead and he grins that grin that makes her heartbeat a little faster in her chest.
“What’s up, sunshine?” He asks, opening one coal dark eye and reaching to cup her cheek. She leans against it with a small sigh, her eyes fluttering closed. His hands are huge, and her face feels so small whenever he holds it.
“Just thinking.” Chrissy murmurs, shrugging. He opens both eyes now and quirks a brow, still grinning.
“Uh oh, sounds dangerous.” Eddie teases, and she giggles, her cheeks turning a rosy pink.
“Most definitely.” She replies, before kissing the tip of his nose. They’re both quiet for a few beats, just letting the sounds of the forest and each other’s presence soothe them.
Finally, she gets the courage to speak.
“Here, sit up.” She says, pulling away and gesturing for him to do the same. He furrows his brows but obeys, as he normally does, and looks at her once he’s sitting up beside her.
“Yes, milady?” He asks, cocking his head to the side. Chrissy can’t help but smile at him and her nerves lessen slightly.
She reaches up and unlatches her necklace with perfectly manicured french tips. Once it’s undone, she leans forward and puts it around Eddie’s neck.
It rests right below the hollow of his throat, and the 86 shines in the afternoon sun like a beacon. His eyes are wide and he reaches to touch it, his calloused fingers that feel so good against her smooth skin rubbing at the golden numbers.
“Chrissy, are you sure -“
She shakes her head, cutting him off.
“Ed, I want you to have it.” Chrissy says firmly, reaching to interlock their fingers. He squeezes them and brushes his thumb across her knuckles.
He stares at her a moment, in awe she thinks, before grinning. He squeezes her hand again before pulling away, going to the back of his neck. She’s almost worried that he’s going to take her necklace off when suddenly, his guitar pick falls into his lap.
He snatches it up and moves to put it around her neck, mirroring what she did with her own.
“There.” He says, and his voice is full of emotion. She reaches to grab it, looking down and rubbing her thumb against the smooth surface.
“It’s not gold or even silver but -“
Chrissy cuts him off for a second time, this time with her lips. Eddie sighs against the kiss, immediately moving one of his big hands to cup her face. She leans into it, her glossed lips smooth against his slightly chapped ones.
In the end, she only pulls away because her lungs start to hurt ever so slightly.
“I love you.” She whispers and Eddie smiles lazily, nuzzling their noses together.
“I love you too, princess.”
And never before, had a nickname made her feel like she’s glowing from the inside out.
