Minjeong’s hands were clammy as she checked her reflection in the bathroom mirror, she rinsed and dried them before tidying her hair. She wasn’t stalling... okay, she was stalling a little because of the nerves that had built up in the last few hours since she’d decided that she finally needed to tell Jimin – her best friend - how she feels about her, if only to know whether she’d even have a shot because Jimin has never mentioned a past relationship with anyone nor have they really talked about dating.
Minjeong dabbed on a little lip balm and decided to bite the bullet to stop herself from overthinking any more than she had been.
She headed down to a studio where she knew Jimin would be practicing, they knew each other’s schedules from spending so much time together – inside and outside the company.
Through the small window in the door she could see she was alone, so she quietly pushed open the door and Jimin almost immediately turned to face her, as ever a bright smile greeting her.
“Mindoongie!”
She couldn’t help the happy smile that appeared on her face.
“Jiminie!” Minjeong giggled, clearing her throat before continuing. “I was wondering if you want to go out later? Once you’re finished and stuff.”
Jimin’s eyes studied her curiously, she sensed a slight apprehension in the way Minjeong had asked and that made her wonder why. Was she hoping she’d decline so she could hang out with someone new? Could that be it?
“You asked me but sounded hesitant, it’s okay if you don’t want to...”
“What?!” Minjeong spluttered. “No! I- argh, I sounded hesitant but it’s only because I’m nervous! I need to tell you something but I’m afraid of what could change.”
Jimin’s expression softened and she reached for both her hands, squeezing gently in what she hoped was a reassuring gesture.
“You can tell me anything, Minjeong. Always, I’ll always be here for you.”
“Please don’t be disgusted by me but I like you, Jimin, as more than a friend. For a while now so I just need you to tell me you don’t feel the same so I can move on and not lose my best friend.”
The way Minjeong completely refused to make eye contact with her broke Jimin’s heart a little, she released her hands only to gently take her chin and tilt her head up to look at her.
“Or you could ask me on a date without assuming that I’d turn you down?”
Minjeong’s heart began to race despite the voice of doubt in her head.
“How could I assume anything but that, Jimin? We haven’t talked about this stuff so I don’t even know what you think about same-sex relationships let alone your best friend wanting to be in one with y-”
Minjeong’s babbling was cut off as Jimin leaned in, silencing her before she'd even sweetly pecked her soft lips. The taller girl pulled back to admire the surprised adorable look on her face, chuckling as she smushed her cheeks.
“You're the cutest person in existence, you know that? Also, for clarification; I’ve never brought up dating because I don’t actually have any dating experience.”
“Oh...” Minjeong trailed off, unable to hide the surprise in her tone.
“Well I know it can’t be because no one asked you out, you’re like a model.”
Jimin rolled her eyes but smiled in appreciation of the compliment.
“A few boys asked me but I never wanted to be anything but people’s friend, like there were a few moments where I wondered if there might be something wrong with me, but then you came along with your cute puppy face and I found out first-hand what ‘gay panicking’ is.”
Minjeong burst out laughing, Jimin tried to look stern but failed in two seconds, literally laughing until they were both on the ground clutching their stomachs and probably looking insane to anyone wandering by.
“For the record, you make me gay panic too. Even if I came out of the womb liking girls.”
Jimin snorted and playfully slapped at her.
“No more, my poor abs! Aish. Anyway, Kim Minjeong are you gonna ask me or what?”
“You’re older than me so technically shouldn’t you ask me?”
Jimin puffed out her cheeks in annoyance.
“Okay! Okay. Jimin will you please go on a date with me?”
“I’d love to, but where did you have in mind?”
“...I didn’t exactly let myself entertain a scenario where you said yes” Minjeong pouted until the other girl poked her lips.
“That’s alright” Jimin smiled softly, “I’m honestly happy to just order food and watch a movie with you, after I’ve showered that is.”
“That actually sounds perfect” Minjeong sighed contently, “we can talk and cuddle.”
Two hours later
“I’m so full I don't want to move” Minjeong complained, happily patting her stomach that was now full of pizza.
Jimin patted her stomach too and fussed her like she was a puppy.
“Well lucky for you you don’t have to, you can sleep here any time.”
“I know” Minjeong smiled and nuzzled closer, sneaking a kiss to Jimin’s cheek.
“I think you missed my lips” Jimin teased, smirking as Minjeong’s eyes instantly went to them.
“I didn’t but it sounds like you miss my lips, Yu Jimin.” Minjeong raised an eyebrow, grinning from just the knowledge that kissing Jimin was now something she could actually do outside of her dreams.
“Maybe? I couldn’t exactly kiss you properly when we were in the company building...”
“I see. Well, let’s try that again, shall we?”
Minjeong tucked a stray strand of Jimin’s hair behind her ear, tracing her sharp jawline and rubbing her thumb over the beauty mark near her lips. She watched as Jimin’s eyes drifted closed and tilted her chin so their lips could meet. Minjeong’s eyes closed and she draped her arms around the girl’s slender neck, completely surrendering herself to her feelings. She pressed their lips together softly yet firmly, sighing as Jimin’s hands held her close and steadied her. Feeling comfortable and confident, Minjeong tugged on her lower lip and used Jimin’s surprise to slip her tongue into her mouth, curiously swirling warmth against warmth. It was when Minjeong climbed onto her lap that Jimin pulled away for a breather, leaning her forehead on her.
“Easy there, pup.” Jimin chuckled before taking a deep breath and nudging her with her nose.
“You’re a good kisser. Why are you such a good kisser?”
Minjeong laughed loudly at the suspicion in her voice and the narrow-eyed glare.
“I mean thanks but why are YOU such a good kisser?!”
“I don’t know I’ve only really kissed you!”
Jimin’s voice cracked at the end of her sentence and Minjeong absolutely delighted in it.
Jimin whined in embarrassment and decided to take it out in the form of a tickle attack. Minjeong squealed and tried to escape by rolling aside but Jimin just pinned one of her legs over hers and leant on her elbow, gazing down at her fondly as she ceased the tickling. She watched the smaller girl swallow and a pale hand reached determinedly for her nape to bring her closer.
“Mindoongie, I thought you wanted to cuddle hmm?”
“Fine then don’t kiss me.” Minjeong sulked, sassily turning her face away.
Jimin rolled her eyes and pulled the smaller body to her, settling on her back with Minjeong now looking down at her with big eyes and slightly flushed cheeks.
“You’re lucky you’re cute, brat”
Minjeong pouted then grinned, shrugging her shoulders.
“Hey we’re just making up for lost time.”
“I’m definitely not complaining, but you better be taking me on a date tomorrow!”
Spoiler; Minjeong did take Jimin out on a real date, and rumour has it they continue to this very day.
