Work Text:

He looks exactly the same, if not a little bit older and wiser. But Rosa knows he is the same person he was all those years ago; the warmth in his eyes being forever unchanging.

He smiles at her wistfully, and she desperately fights the urge to break down in front of him. How could he do that? How could he look at her with those damning eyes, after leaving her alone for what seemed like forever?

Rosa, at this very moment, becomes cruel and unforgiving, unwilling to forget the promises he had broken in the last eight years. Even as he breaks into a grin bright enough to outshine her pain, she feels as though the hatred she feels is enough to consume her.

She wants to run away, to leave him there. She wants to hurt him just as much as he had hurt her. She wants to make him suffer as much as she had done, waiting for a person who had left and has yet still never returned despite being right in front of her.

He is speaking to her in a tongue she cannot understand, gripping her hands in a comforting act. He is gazing at her lovingly, but she cannot bring herself to do the same.

Rosa is angry.

And yet, she begins to weep, against her better judgement. The tears spill out as if they had been there from an era bygone, and she feels her strength slowly dissipate as she clutches him in an attempt to hold herself together.

But Rosa has broken like glass, and she cannot be put back together. There was no one to comfort her on the nights when she had been lonely, or to bring her back up when she felt as if she’d been falling into an abyss of despair and self hatred. She realises, now, she is shattered beyond recognition.

And it is all his fault.

They have fallen to the ground at this point, and he is holding her against his chest. But she is sobbing uncontrollably and hitting him, screaming for him to let go. But he does not, and instead tightens his hold on her.

Rosa is breaking again, and she knows she has become pathetic once more. She is ashamed of herself.

But she does not care, and lets him embrace her as her arms fall loosely, defeated. He is shaking, whispering apologies in her ears and begging for her forgiveness. But Rosa does not say a word, and curls in on herself, becoming the sixteen year old who had missed him after all those years.

She leans her head on his shoulder, and wraps her arms around him, grasping at his clothes desperately and not wanting to let him go again in case he disappears when she closes her eyes.

She feels warm in his embrace, despite the mistrust for him building in her veins. But Luke is still the same person he was back when they were kids, and so she knows she cannot hate him forever, it’s simply unnatural.

So she will ignore the doubt in her mind for now, up until the day he leaves her again. She can only hope it will not be in the near future; there is only so much loneliness her bleeding heart can take.

Notes:

I really feel like this is how their reunion should have went, instead of her just forgiving him for leaving her on the spot- especially considering he had two years out of those eight years to seek her out.
