“Hey, Inuyasha!” Kagome whispered-yell when she saw a familiar bright red robe belonging to her best friend. “Psst, psst, over here.”
“What the hell are you doin’, Kagome?” Her friend inquired rather loudly as he followed her scent to know her whereabouts. When he stood in front of her, there was a layer of excitement in her eyes. “Why are you looking at me like that, weirdo?”
“Oh, pipe down, Inuyasha,” she shushed. Her head peeked over the tree as she assessed her neighbors and surroundings.
“The coast is clear. Follow me.” His golden eyes watched incredulously as Kagome attempted to be sneaky while entering her own hut. “Inuyasha,” came her whisper yell once more prompting him to follow her.
The hanyo sighed.
When they were inside, her tensed shoulders relaxed. They stood close, face to face. What she said next made Inuyasha balk. “Kneel, Inuyasha.”
The hanyo blanched, looking at her quizzically. “Hah?? Are you out of your mind?!”
“Do you have to be so dramatic?” Kagome sighed as her brows furrowed. “So can you do it?”
“I guess?” One of his knees bent to the ground as he crouched. The space between them was close to nonexistent. His face was directly at her abdomen. If any person could see them, they might get the wrong idea.
This was too intimate, far too intimate to Inuyasha’s liking.
Then a small scent caught his nose.
Knowing Kagome’s scent since they were teenagers looking for shards, he could tell that her scent was slightly different.
Her usual scent was akin to fresh clean sheets that dried out in the sun. Now, it was still the same but stronger and with a tint of something sweet.
His other knee dropped to the ground. Without thought, his hands went to her hips as he sniffed her.
The strange scent was strong in her stomach. Realization hit him and his golden eyes widened. His eyes looked at Kagome’s hopeful brown eyes.
“Does the bastard know about this?”
A big grin broke out on her beautiful face. “Nope, not yet. His mother sent him on a mission before I started showing signs.”
Happiness and exuberance radiated from his best friend. She didn’t even take notice of him calling her husband ‘bastard’. There was no denying that Kagome was bursting with happiness.
Inuyasha couldn’t help but smile also.
Inuyasha’s nose twitched, sniffing once more to confirm it a second time when the hut’s door swung swiftly causing it to emit a loud bang.
His ears immediately flattened on his head in defense at the harsh sound.
Angry yoki permeated the air.
Oh, and he knew whom the yoki belonged to.
It dawned on him that he was still on his knees, holding Kagome’s hips while his nose was buried in her stomach.
He immediately straightened up. There was a fifty percent chance that he would die today and he was not prepared to meet his parents just yet.
“It’s not what you think, Sesshomaru,” he said, a little defensive. His half-brother was already baring his fangs and the corner of his eyes was already turning crimson. “Look, man-“
A loud bark resounded inside the hut. Before he knew it, Sesshomaru was already on the move.
“Inuyasha, sit.”
For the first time in his life, he was grateful for the existence of the subjugation beads. If not for the infernal necklace, his guts would be sticking out on his crazy half-brother’s claw.
“What do you think you’re doing?” There was annoyance in her tone as Kagome’s glare deepened towards Sesshomaru. “I know you are thinking of the unthinkable but really it’s not like that.”
He hissed.
“Don’t you hiss at me, mister.” She put her hands on her hips as she stomped toward him. Her heart clenched at his lack of trust. Didn’t he trust her? “Really, Sesshomaru? Do you not trust me?”
The crimson in his eyes dissipated, leaving a pair of soft amber eyes that was only meant for her to see. He sighed as he enveloped her wife in a hug.
“I do, very much. It is Inuyasha that I do not trust.” His nose was buried in her locks the whole time he spoke, basking in her scent. “Forgive me, Kagome. My instinct got the best of me.”
“You’re such an idiot,” she mumbled. The whole time he whispered his sorry. Kagome sighed, embracing him back, sensing his sincerity and remorse. “It’s not me who you should be apologizing to-“ she gestured to Inuyasha who was crossing his arms while watching them get all lovey-dovey like his brother didn’t try to gut him earlier.
“This Sesshomaru admits his mistake, Inuya-“
“Ah, save it for later ya bastard,” Inuyasha grumbled making his way to the entrance. He turned back to the couple. “‘Sides the wench has more important thing to say to you. See you around.”
The hanyo leapt the clearing. With that, they were left alone in their own little abode.
“What is it that you want to tell me?” His voice was soft as he spoke to her.
Kagome pulled back from his embrace and her face suddenly turned serious. Sesshomaru would be lying if said he isn’t anxious.
“Sesshomaru,” she said, voice completely flat. Hundreds of possibilities, all of them negative, ran inside his mind. He could feel sweat forming on his forehead in anticipation. “You’re going to be a father.”
Exuberance laced her voice when she said the last sentence. Without much care or grace, he plopped on his knees, much like Inuyasha’s position before he walked in on them.
Then he caught the scent.
The fresh, soothing scent of her wife mixed with the sweet smell of flowers. It was so refreshing. He was too caught up in his anger toward Inuyasha that he didn’t even notice the subtle change in his wife’s scent.
Clawed hand gently came to touch her still flat belly. Sesshomaru gasped causing Kagome to look at him worriedly. “What is it? What’s happening?”
“I could already feel their yoki.” He drew her closer, completely burying his nose in her stomach, not caring how the lingering scent of his brother clung to her miko garb. These were his pups. He and his beloved’s— a manifestation of their love.
Kagome felt like a melted butter when he kissed her stomach. It was a sight to behold, a sight only meant for her. She stroked his hair. This moment was too sweet, domestic even.
“Our children will be powerful. Their yoki is already strong.”
Kagome snorted. “Naturally, they are yours after all.”
“Ours, miko. Ours.”
Kagome stopped for a moment. The realization hit her. “Wait, wait. Can you go back to what you said earlier?”
“Ours?”
“No, no, that’s not it. What did you mean by children? Like children as in plural?”
There was a grin on his face, a rare sight indeed. “Yes. In fact, you are carrying four based on the yoki signature I sensed. Four little me and you.”
Kagome’s smile was already twitching. “F-four? Are you sure?”
Sesshomaru rose from his feet while still holding her close by the waist. “When was I ever wrong?”
“Arrogant jerk,” she muttered.
“Do not fret, we will raise them together. We will be, as you call it a “team”.”
Kagome hummed. The number was overwhelming but she was sure they would get through this together. They were a team after all.
She looked at Sesshomaru, still marveling at her stomach. There was a sparkle in his eyes that spoke a thousand words. It was full of love and adoration.
One thing she knew for sure was that Sesshomaru would try to be the best father for their litter of children.
Kagome giggled when his mouth descended on hers. She returned the kiss and then pulled away causing the daiyokai to look disappointed.
“Enough of that, daddy,” she giggled when she saw the effect the word did on Sesshomaru. She had introduced that slang to him in one of their not-so-innocent encounters. “I’m pretty sure Rin is dying to see you and I want to tell everyone the news.”
