Work Text:
Everything was like an idyllic dream. The sun was setting gracefully, its arms enfolding the earth with her red-orange cape, slowly darkening the horizon. The wind was billowing around him, caressing him like a lover. He knew no fear, only of a curiosity as to what will happen next.
A car screeched in the distance and sped up towards where he was.
“Jungkook!”
He turned his head to see the love of his life rushing out of the car. Tall and handsome, Seokjin was everything he knew and loved for years. He was a good man, handsome and kind. He adored him very much but somehow it wasn't enough. Not enough for both of them. He was human and flawed. With sadness, he looked on towards the pretty sight of the setting sun and stepped closer to the edge of the cliff.
“Please, stop. Don’t go any further.”
Seokjin was at a loss. He may not be the perfect partner but without Jungkook, he will be once again, a broken and pitiful man. Alone and lost. Jungkook was the only good thing that made him try to be better than who he already was. He can't imagine a world without him in his life. Tears fell unbidden as he offered his hand to the only one who can complete him.
Jungkook knew that this was the only way to end it. He stayed with him far longer than needed. There was lots of laughter and joy during their time together. Happiness was something he had not known before until Seokjin. It was the same with love, too. Love was wonderful and it was also not. Emotions flare up and burn without control. Jealousy, anger, hurt and forgiveness are beyond his understanding. He learned to pretend to feel those emotions but he was tired now.
He faced Seokjin and was slightly bothered to find out that he was now only a few paces away.
He spoke with certainty and finality, “I have to do this, Seokjin. I have to.”
Desperately and begging, Seokjin stuttered his plea, “No, you don’t. Please come back to me. Please take my hand and come home, to me, to us. Please, Jungkook. Please. Please don't go. I will be better, I promise. I will do anything just don't leave me. Please, I love you. Only you.”
Jungkook looked at him for the last time. His words should be enough but it wasn't. He knows of promises and vows and yet he cares nothing about it. Too much time has passed for him and he could no longer stay. The wind called his name. He turned around took the final step forward over the edge and fell.
“NOOOOO!!!”
Seokjin ran towards the edge. He stumbled but still stretched out his hands trying to grasp any part of Jungkook. He clasped nothing but air. He looked down over the cliff and then saw that before Jungkook could hit the ground, he gently swooped up by unfolding his wings and flew back up to the sky and beyond the sunset. It was where he came from and where he really belonged.
Seokjin fell to his knees and wept as his angel left him without even looking back.
