"Jeremy, we are not going to name our cat Sir Fatass."
The fatass orange cat meowed in agreement. Jeremy frowned.
"But- But it's the perfect name! Look at 'im!" Jeremy scooped up the fur ball and shoved him into Michael's face. "He's so freaking chubby!"
"Jeremy!" Michael gasped. "Stop, you're hurting his feelings!"
"He'll be fine, won't you?" Jeremy cooed, rubbing his bright face against the cat's fur. Michael blinked.
"Don't you worry you little cutie, I'll find the most perfect name for you, oh yes I will, yes I will!" Jeremy squealed and clutched the cat tight to his chest. The cat purred and rubbed himself against Jeremy's chest and the blonde giggled.
"Jer, you're starting to freak me out." Michael clasped his hands together, a silly feeling he couldn't quite place running through his body.
"Awww, but Michael, he's so adorable!" Jeremy stood up from the bed. "I knew he was the perfect choice to add to our small family. God I love him."
"Yeah, yep, he's great." Michael muttered.
Michael sat expectantly on the bed, waiting for Jeremy to flop his head down on his chest like always and to babble on about a new dish for them to cook or what new TV show he was obsessing over, but the blonde merely kept the cat close and exited the room, cooing and gushing over the cat like it was the reason Jeremy lived and breathed everyday. Michael blinked, once, twice, before immediately frowning.
What.
That cat had just been around for three hours, and Jeremy already loved him so much. It took Jeremy four years of friendship and seven months of dating to tell Michael that he loved him. And even then, Michael was the first one to say it.
Michael tugged at his brown locks, and letting out a groan. Jesus fucking Christ. He was getting jealous. Over a cat.
It was not going to happen again.
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
It happened again.
Michael glared at the still unnamed cat as Jeremy bounced his leg up and down as the orange fur ball cuddled up against him. Michael wanted nothing more than to grab the cat and toss him off and have Jeremy sit in his lap instead. He immediately flushed with guilt at the terrible thought.
"Mikeyyyy, could you grab me a cup of water please? I don't wanna disturb the little guy."
Didn't you get off of my lap one time because you were so thirsty? Michael grumbled in his head, but he got up and gave Jeremy his water anyways.
"Thanks, babe." Jeremy squeezed the cat and Michael narrowed his eyes. While Jeremy's head was turned, the ball of fur looked up at Michael with beady light blue eyes and meowed. Michael bit the inside of his cheek.
"Mike, what's up?" Jeremy asked. Michael snapped out of his staring contest with the cat and looked at Jeremy.
"N-Nothing. Just uh, um." Michael played with his fingers, and pulled at his cheek. "He- He looks like a Fred. How about that name?"
Jeremy grinned and grabbed his boyfriend by the neck and roughly kissed him. Michael yelped in surprise and scrambled to grab ahold of Jeremy's shoulders, the blonde suddenly delving into his mouth. Before he could even kiss back Jeremy pulled away and patted his reddened cheek.
"Mikey, mi amor, you are a genius." Jeremy grinned and looked at the cat. "How about that cutie? Fred? It's kinda funny but it suits you well."
They both watched the cat expectantly as he seemed to genuinely ponder the name. After a minute the cat meowed and seemed to shake his head no.
"Oh." Jeremy deflated. Michael screamed and sobbed in his head. "Guess not." Jeremy looked up, honey brown eyes filled with genuine apology. "Sorry, babe. He doesn't seem to like it."
He's a cat.
"N-No worries, it was stupid anyways." Michael mumbled, sitting besides Jeremy, watching him play with the little thing and Jesus.
He was getting way too jealous.
The last straw, however, was when Michael came home from work, just waiting to, y'know, relax and sleep with his boyfriend in their bed that they bought for themselves.
He came home to find the fucking chubby thing of fur sleeping on his side of the bed like he paid the bills. And to add even more salt to the very open wound, Jeremy allowed it, knowing Michael would be home from work.
Michael only blinked at the sight, letting out a shuddery sigh because he was not going to cry at the fact that a fucking cat won over his boyfriend. Instead, he very carefully got onto the bed and lightly shook the cat.
"Psst, hey little guy." He whispered. "You're uh, on my side. Could you move a bit? I kinda wanna cuddle my super amazing boyfriend, but you're in the way."
The cat meowed in annoyance, looking at Michael with those freaky little eyes and ignored him. Michael gaped.
"Oh. Oh okay." His eyes narrowed. "Fuck you, then."
Michael grabbed the cat as gently as he could to not scare the shit out of it, but it shrieked and began to claw at his hand and arm, the stinging pain of his flesh slightly tearing causing him to jerk and crash on top of Jeremy.
"Ah shit-! Michael?" Jeremy shot up and rubbed his eyes to see his cat and boyfriend in a pissy match, the cat hissing and scratching and Michael fighting back, slapping at his paws. He watched in disbelief before scooping up the cat and pulling him away as it continued to shriek and clawed at the air, almost as if it were trying to jump back onto Michael and rock his shit.
"Michael? Dude, what the hell is going on? Are you okay?" Jeremy yelled over the noise, holding the animal close and lightly shushing it and running his hand along its back.
"Oh, I really think you should be asking that cutie how he's feeling instead of me." Michael snipped, rolling his eyes. Jeremy frowned at the tone.
"What? Babe, what are you-" Jeremy then blinked, looking at the now mostly calm cat and then at his boyfriend's frown, trying to withhold pained noises at the scratches and the realization dawned on him.
"Mike...Are you...Jealous of the cat?"
Michael's eyes shot wide open and he frantically shook his head. "W-What!? No! I'm- I'm not jealous of the cat, he was just on my side of the bed and he's always cuddled up against you, and- and-"
Jeremy sighed as his boyfriend scrambled to find the words to convince him that he was not jealous. During his nervous rambling, Jeremy brought his head down to the fur ball and whispered, "Could you give us some time alone?" The cat meowed and seemed to have nod and Jeremy grinned and gave the him a quick peck at the top of his head and placed the cat outside of the bedroom and closed the door. Michael was still babbling as Jeremy entered the bathroom and returned with a med kit. He crawled on the bed and to his boyfriend, smiling as Michael's words became more frantic and immediately stopped as Jeremy properly adjusted himself on Michael's lap.
"Shirt off." Jeremy instructed. Michael's pale skin flushed red as he quickly took off his work shirt. Jeremy snickered as Michael's ocean blue eyes flickered down to his chest, and hesitantly raised his hands. Jeremy nodded and Michael gently placed his hands on his waist, admiring the brown and freckled skin and moved them up a bit, running his fingers on the top surgery scars.
"Keep 'em there." Jeremy was a bit breathless at the touch, but didn't allow himself to be too distracted as he opened up the kit and pulled out the disinfectant and band-aids.
"Arm, please." Jeremy grinned as Michael immediately removed his scarred arm from his chest and in front of him. Jeremy hummed as he held the arm gently.
"Mikey, I know you're jealous of the cat." Jeremy stated matter of factly, shutting down Michael's flustered protest. "It's okay, babe. Do you wanna talk about it?"
Michael groaned and squeezed his eyes shut tight. "Ughhh, no not really, because it's a cat. Like if it were another person? I would be in shambles and that's understandable. But I'm in shambles over a cat."
Jeremy frowned at the first bit and kissed Michael's knuckles. "Okay, I'm never leaving you for another person so get that ugly thought out of your pretty head. And I'm sure as hell not leaving you for a cat."
"I know, I know." Michael grumbled, hissing at the sting of the disinfectant on the scars, lightly shushed and given a few pecks on the cheek by Jeremy, a warm hand carressing his cheek. "But like, I'm still jealous over a cat, and it's so stupid and embarrassing."
Jeremy couldn't help but laugh. "I dunno Mikey. I think it's kinda cute. I'm so irresistible that you can't handle me giving affection to a cat."
"I don't think that's a good thing, Jer."
"Ehhh, it's fine." Jeremy placed three band-aids on his arm and began to kiss up his arm. "You're so adorable, babe. But uh, please don't get upset at the kitty. He's just a little pissy, he'll get used to you eventually."
"No fair he likes you more." Michael muttered.
"Mmm, yeah." Jeremy grabbed Michael's shoulders and pushed him down, the brunette gasping and his blood trailing up to his face but mostly shooting downward. "But I like you more. Don't tell him I said that."
"J-Jeremy." Michael whimpered as his boyfriend kissed and sucked marks into his neck, looking directly at his blonde hair where the roots of the original hazel brown began to grow again. "A-Ah, I- hah! Kinda forgot when we last did this?"
"Well that's no good." Jeremy gave a final harsh bite to his neck, drinking in the sudden moan it got as he trailed downwards to his boyfriend's semi-hard dick. "Don't worry babe, I'll make sure this one you'll never forget."
Michael keened at the sensation of hot wet heat on the skin. Looks like Jeremy was correct. He definitely wasn't going to forget this.
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
"Jeremy, please don't leave! I'm so sorry if I ever did anything to make you upset, I promise I'll change!"
"Mike...I'm just going to see my parents for the weekend."
Michael groaned, exasperated. "You're going to leave me with him?" The still unnamed cat meowed and stuck up his head.
"You'll be fine, babe. Maybe this will be like a bonding experience for you both." Jeremy giggled at Michael's expression of pure disdain, pinching his cheek. The brunette lightly leaned into the touch, which was a perfect opportunity for Jeremy grip those brown locks and pull Michael in, lowering his voice. "Be a good boy, and we can go out to dinner. If you pay, I'd be more than willing to give you a bondage experience..."
The paying part was just to add to the flirt, they always split the bill no matter how much Michael insisted otherwise. But the second part was definitely something Jeremy wouldn't mind having Michael experience again.
"H-Hah, um," Michael's face burned and he nodded quickly, "O-Okay, fine, I'll try to get along with him."
"Good boy!" Jeremy patted his cheek. "Maybe you'll even find a name for him!"
"Doubt it." Michael muttered under his breath, but he smiled at his boyfriend anyways.
Michael helped Jeremy carry his small luggage to the car even though Jeremy insisted it was only one and wasn't even that heavy, but Michael took a lot of joy in hoisting the heavy (Well, heavy for him) luggage into the truck and his boyfriend immediately grabbed his face and kiss him everywhere and whisper "Thank you," and, "You're such a cutie, best boyfriend ever."
"Goodbye, my dashing beautiful boy." Jeremy waved to a distraught Michael. "May we meet again, somewhere, somewhen."
Michael snorted at the theatrics. "Bye, Jer. I'll try to not kill myself."
"Please don't."
Michael could only stare longingly as his boyfriend drove off, still waving out of the window yelling "I love you!" Until he was entirely out of view. He sighed and kicked the gravel and made his way back inside the house.
The fucking cat was on his spot of the couch, lying flat on its stomach and meowing, tail flicking in the air. Michael clenched his teeth and sat down beside it.
This was going to be a very long weekend.
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
Michael chewed his cereal bitterly, dearly missing his sweet boyfriend who always kissed him no matter how bad his morning breath was, always fresh and clean from a shower and tasting like minty toothpaste after his early morning jog. Instead he woke up to the little shit clawing at his face for food.
Michael glanced down to see the orange fur ball chowing down on his cat food, immediately going after the food that fell out of the bowl.
"Jeremy was right, you're such a fatass." Michael grumbled. The cat hissed at him and he rolled his eyes.
Of course, he just had to have the weekend off, meaning he had to deal with this thing for forty-eight hours. For Jeremy he would try, but he was so close to giving up.
"Do cats go on walks?" Michael wondered aloud, and looked at the cat again. It looked up at him and shrugged. Michael thought for a few more moments and then stood up.
"I'm taking you for a walk."
And there they were, a tall brunette yearning for his boyfriend and a chubby orange cat walking along the street. Michael did not have a leash, so he just tied shoelaces from very old shoes together and then secured it to the cat's collar. Maybe it looked stupid, but he didn't want to call Jeremy in a panic about how he had lost their cat.
The cat seemed to be enjoying the walk, meowing and strutting like it owned the place. Michael sighed as the cat stopped by a tree and sniffed around it and sitting down.
"Really?" Michael groaned, a sudden buzz in his pocket distracting him as he pulled out his phone to the image of Jeremy kissing him on the cheek and wearing obnoxiously large heart-shaped sunglasses and with him grinning shyly at their last trip to Disneyland. He smiled at the memory and answered the call.
"MIKEY! Oh Michael I've missed you so so much!"
"You've been gone for less than twenty-four hours, Jeremy."
"Ugh, that's too long. How are you doing my beautiful boy?"
"Okay don't laugh at me." Michael frowned as Jeremy immediately laughed on the other end. "Oh, okay."
"N-No, wait," Jeremy still giggled, "When you say that I just have to laugh. What's up?"
"I," Michael exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair, "I'm taking the cat for a walk."
"Awww, wait that's so cute." Jeremy gushed and Michael blushed a bit. "Uh, wait. We don't have a leash though."
"Okay so here's the thing."
"Oh God."
"Listen. I was going to throw out these really old shoes so I just...Took out the laces and...Tied them."
Michael heard a burst of loud laughter on the other end, flushing with embarrassment, "I said to not laugh at meeeee." He whined.
"No, heh- Mikey it's fine. That's like, so resourceful of you. But um, we're definitely gonna buy a leash soon. Is it really secure?"
"Yep. It works fine."
"Right. Where is he anyways?"
"Oh, uh," Michael looked around the tree to find it empty.
Oh.
Shit.
"Mike?" Jeremy asked as Michael's blood ran very cold.
"Jer? Um, can I call you back?"
He heard shuffling and Jeremy speaking closer to the phone. "Michael, what happened?"
"N-Nothing! Just, can I call you back?"
"Oh um, sure?"
"Okay bye bye I love you!" Michael hung up before Jeremy could even reply and bolted down the street.
Where could he have gone? It's not like the cat walked fast or even ran at all, so how did he disappear so quickly and without Michael noticing? Fuckkkkk.
Michael was already out of breath but he looked around frantically and tripped and stumbled but he stayed on his two feet. God he hated his life.
He saw a quick blur of orange and skitted to a stop as the little fur ball was in the middle of the road. Michael let out a sigh of relief, thank God, and calmed down.
That is until a fucking car ignored the STOP sign and sped forward, hurtling towards the cat.
Now, Michael has had a lot of life or death situations. His first instinct was to still and then react. But in that moment, he couldn't even processed what was happening until the cat was scooped up into his arms and Michael threw himself forward, landing on the other side of the street and his shoulder slamming against the cement, a sharp pain spiking from it that was definitely going to leave a bruise.
The driver didn't even stop and hurtled along, Michael flipping it off and yelling, "Asshole!" Anyways. He stood up and rubbed at his sore shoulder, shaking and very much out of breath. The cat stayed protected in his arms but was shaking just as much.
"A-Are you okay?" Michael asked, immediately searching the cat for possible injuries. A bit shaken, but he was fine otherwise.
"Thank God you weren't hurt. Don't run off like that again, you hear?" The cat meowed and rubbed himself Michael's chest. The brunette was caught off guard by the action but gave a small smile. "Alright, let's go. I need to call your father."
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
Jeremy was extremely worried as soon as Michael called back and gasped as he told the story. Michael was able to calm him down and assured that he and the cat were alright and that the bruise wasn't too bad.
"I'm just glad both of my sweet boys are okay!" Jeremy sighed and Michael laughed.
On Sunday, Michael had planned to watch horror movies with Jeremy, but since he wasn't here he had to do it alone. It's not that he particularly enjoyed the genre, he actually did not enjoy it at all, but Jeremy loved it more than anything, and Michael wanted to watch and indulge with his boyfriend's interests.
Jeremy had been adamant on watching Ginger Snaps, that it was the best movie ever and a complete masterpiece and Michael just had to watch it. So Michael microwaved so popcorn and started up the movie, already getting nervous and picking his long legs up from the ground and safely onto the couch, clutching the popcorn bowl a bit tighter.
He hated the sense of dread each horror came with, especially if there was an unnecessary amount of gore that made his stomach flip and bile rise to his throat. Jeremy would hold him close and tease him a bit as Michael would let out girly screams at jumpscares. However, Michael was alone, so suck it up pussy.
There was a loud bang on screen and Michael jumped, some popcorn falling onto the couch. He coughed and picked up the mess, when suddenly a bit of soft fur rubbed against his arm. He looked down to see the orange cat rubbing against him, purring warmly.
"Oh, hello. Do you want to watch? I wouldn't if I were you." Michael smiled and huffed out a laugh as the cat jumped on his lap and curled up. "Heh, or you can sleep, that's fine too. Just don't attack the popcorn bowl. Or me."
Surprisingly enough, Michael did not get too scared. The soft and gentle presence of the fur ball was enough to soothe his scares, and each time he jolted or let out a yelp, the cat rubbed against him and purred, allowing him to calm down.
The sense of warmth was quite a lot, the couch enveloping him into feeling like he was on clouds and he managed to gain the brain capacity to place the popcorn bowl on the floor. He laid down and stretched on the couch and drifted off, the ball of fur right next to his head, rubbing his face against Michael's nose.
Jeremy pulled up outside at two in the morning, absolutely beat and tired from having to drive so late. When he entered the house, he did not expect to see his boyfriend and cat curled up together as if they were father and son. Jeremy beamed at the sight, his grin hurting his cheeks as he lightly shook Michael awake.
"Mikey babe, do you want to sleep on the couch tonight?"
"Mmhmm." Michael nodded, his voice drowsy. "Too tired."
Jeremy giggled and pulled off his shirt and jeans and crawled on top of his boyfriend, resting his head on a bare neck, long arms immediately wrapping around him.
"Mm, Jeremy?"
"Yeah?"
"Ginger Snaps. We should, mm, name him Ginger Snaps."
The cat beside them purred and rubbed his nose against Michael's cheek and the against Jeremy's shoulder. The blonde smiled.
"Yeah, babe. It's a perfect name." Jeremy whispered, giving Michael a quick peck on the lips and then on his cheek. Michael kissed his forehead, half of it on his forehead and the other on his hair and sighed, content.
Warm breathing, warm fur, and warm skin caused them to drift off, two fathers and their son very much all fuzzy and cozy on the inside.
