Chapter 1: Fallin For You

Chapter Text

Banri’s favorite spot was the school's rooftop. It was nice, quiet and secluded plus everyone knew that it was his spot. That was until everyone started doing their confessions on the rooftop. How could one comfortably ditch when they were forced to hear people get accepted or even worse rejected, it was awkward for everybody once he made his presence known. Today was like any other day, Banri decided to call it a short day and as he followed the familiar path he saw a lock on the door.

“Fuck”

Any other student would give up and go back to class, but not Banri. He wanted to catch some Zs. He found a nice secluded tree that was accompanied by a small wooden bench. This would make do for now. He got comfortable and accepted the warm embrace of sleep.

It wasn't until he heard cheers and shouting that his slumber was ruined.

Guess classes ended already .

He went on to crack his neck and saw a water bottle, and a small sakura mochi placed next to him.

I didn't leave that.

He looked around and saw that no one was paying attention to him.

Whatever score

Banri was in no rush to get home, so he decided to kill some time by going to the river banks. The sun was setting and everyone was on their way home, and then he heard someone speaking. The source of the sound was someone who was wearing the same uniform as him with dark pinkish hair. He was collecting his things but was still reading his text from his book out loud. It wasn’t until he looked up that the two made eye contact. Normally Banri would have walked past this scene but for some reason he couldn’t move his feet. His eyes stuck on the other. The silence was interrupted by a strong gust of wind. The rustling of the tree made Banri break eye contact, and when he turned back the stranger was right in front of him. He defensively puts his arms up but was presented with a simple red maple leaf.

“Sorry, it was going to land in your hair.”

“Oh”

“You know I heard that there is a saying that if you catch a leaf before it touches the ground you can make a wish” The stranger extends his hand, waiting for Banri to take the leaf.

It’s small. Bright red on top and then slowly becoming orange at the bottom, it feels like those leaves you see on the ground that the minute you step on them you will get a good crunch. Yet he doesn’t want to stomp on it, in fact it's the opposite. He looks at the stranger who gives him a big smile and begins to turn away. After being a few feet apart the stranger turns around and shouted, “make a wish Banri”

How did he know his name?

Banri deemed today another short day. He made way to the rooftop only to be stopped by the lock yet again.

What a pain

So he went to the next best spot. The lone bench. He aimlessly played the games on his phone seeing that he was ranked #2 after Taruchi.

Whatever

He put his phone away and drifted off to sleep. It wasn't cheering or shouting that woke him up this time but the sound of pittering of rain. Only problem, he wasn't wet. He looked up and saw an umbrella covering him, as he turned his head to the person who was holding the umbrella he was greeted by a familiar dark pinkish hair. The stranger was holding a book in one hand and the umbrella in the other, not taking notice that Banri woke up.

"What the fuck?”

The sudden outburst caused the stranger to jump.

"Oh sorry! It was starting to rain and I saw you sleeping here, you wouldn't wake up so I decided to stay until you woke up."

He pulls out his phone, classes ended more than an hour ago.

"Dude its been forever since classes ended, how long were you planning on waiting out here."

"Just until the rain stopped or you woke up." The stranger closes his book and places it into his school bag, then began to pull out another umbrella.

"Here so you don't get wet.”

Banri took the umbrella, a soaking school uniform is a pain. Both boys began to stand up and once Banri opened the umbrella it was the stranger's cue to leave. Giving him a soft smile he was gone.

What the fuck

The next day couldn't come sooner. He wanted to return the umbrella plus the stranger had peaked his interest. Banri managed to attend all his classes, but paying attention was a different story. Once classes ended Banri was the first one out the door, he was quickly glancing at the other students looking for a familiar pinkish hair. That's when he spotted him, in front of a vending machine, getting a water bottle and the same sakura mochi from before.

"Hey!"

Banri got the attention of everyone there, but there was only one person who he wanted to look at him.  The stranger turned his head looking at the cause of the noise. They made eye contact and a soft smile appeared on his face. Banri rushed toward the stranger, holding out the umbrella.

“Here…………and thanks”

“Oh glad you didn’t get sick!

“Who are you?”

“Um, I'm Sakuya Sakuma. We had a class together a few years ago!”

“Oh, well thanks for the umbrella, and the water bottle and the mochi and the leaf.”

Sakuya’s eyes widened with realization ‘Oh the leaf! Did you make a wish?”

“I did, and I think it just came true”
