Chapter Text

She pulled out a journal, it had a scuffed, stained, and discolored front. The girl smiled softly, raising the book onto her hard, cedar wood table, and dropped it with a small ‘plunk!’.

“Haizz…” The young lady sighed, and promptly flung herself into a large, sage stained sofa, snuggling into the cushions. She grabbed the diary, and started a blank yellowed page.

July 14th, 1700 Dear Diary, Thank you for sticking with me again, Kelly. I really need to spill some things today. Honestly, Countess Becky is testing my patience! If only that ignorant prude would shut up about herself. The old bat is probably even having an affair! I swear when I get my hands on that damned evidence I’ll reveal that heinous scandal!

As the girl continued scribbling down jumbles of oddities and crude swears, she recognized something unusual in the corner of her eye. Was that another new dress? By goodness, the thing was hideous! It was green and blue plaid after all! She shivered, and scribbled down some more.

-And I’ve just noticed, but I do believe that another ignorant fool of a suitor has gotten me a new dress! The gaudy thing looks absolutely terrible, honestly, what were they thinking? I wonder if it’s from another baron or something? I dear hope not, if they’re nobility I’d actually have to send a letter back to them! Hopefully it’s just some rich merchant’s son or something, I’ll just ignore them, pretend like I haven’t got the thing. Mother really needs to grow a backbone you know, can’t just go and accept any old dress from any old fat bloke!

As the girl ruthlessly muttered a couple swears, a couple sharp knocks broke the silence, causing a jump to run through her soul. She blushed a bit, hoping whatever maid had come hadn’t heard her say such impurities.

“Oh my word!- I-i’m sorry, Janice do come in.” She mumbled, waving her hand at the door as it creaked open, a maid strolling in. “Oh we must oil that…” Janice mumbled, noticing the creaky-ness of the door hinges, and then swiftly directed her attention back at the girl. “Lady Safine, it is time for supper. Lady Kandine and Countess and Count Kaire are already waiting for you.” Janice spoke, and Safine nodded. “Alright Janice, I’ll be there in a moment.” Lady Safine muttered as she shut the journal with a clack and slipped it back into her table desk. She then stood with the maid, as their clacking pair of shoes echoed through the hallways and into the dining room.

There were numerous paintings strewn throughout the hall, one of the late Count and Countess, as well as one of oddly shaped fruits. The Lady presumed they could never go wrong with fruits, after all, and so she gifted the thing to her mother. It seemed to be in well condition, perfect and pristine, like the rest of her family.

After a small walk, the two made their way to the large double doors, and Janice curtsied and moved to open the mahogany entryways. Safine sighed and brushed off some non-existent dust, and straightened herself. Finally, the maid opened the doors, and called out.

“Lady Safine has arrived!”
