the sun, the moon, a warm bed

Work Text:

All she knows is cold, while the sun is steadily at work. Sheets cool against fair skin, and walls silent, home to only half of a pair.

The moon is lonely, deep purple hair falling freely on ice-cold pillows. Nuzzling into pillows, searching for a sign of the Sun, or perhaps just for a glimpse of warmth on a cold night such as this. The moon thinks only of the sun, her bright smile, and her warm lilac eyes. Of her laugh, her gold, blazing hair, and of the warmth carries with her, like an angelic aura.

The moon misses her love. She misses the person who knows her best, better than her closest friends know her. The person who has been with her through thick and thin, the person she lost but had somehow gained back.

The sun to her moon.

As the moon lies still, a door freaks open, shedding light into the darkness of her bedroom. Her eyes flicker up to meet those of the angel she knows as the sun.

“You look so cold, Kao-chan. Wait just a second for me.” The sun says, voice sweet as honey in green tea. The moon smiles slightly, eyes drooping sleepily.

The creaky door is closed, and the sliver of light vanishes for what feels like only a second. The view of the sun rests behind her eyes like a reassurance of everything good in this world.

The door creaks open once more, and the sun returns, with a blanket and a tray holding two mugs. Tea, the moon thinks in her tired, dazed state.

She watches as the sun approaches the edge of the bed, golden blonde hair falling ever so gracefully over her shoulders, which are covered in a yellow nightgown adorned with dainty, purple flowers. The moon smiles.

“I told you not to stay up, Kao-chan. It’s nearly four in the morning, I told you I’d be late.” The sun whispers. Maybe she’s afraid to wake the moon more.

“Ah, fleeting…” the moon slurs, sleep seeping into her usually crystal clear voice. The sun eyes her, and tries to hold back a smile. Maybe the moon looked more ridiculous than she thought.

“I brought tea. This should help you sleep.” The sun lilts as she climbs into the bed. Immediately, the moon nuzzles into her side, relishing the warmth her sun brings. She feels lucky, to get to know the sun in this way, in the way she’s so kind and sweet, even in the early hours of the morning, even when she’s exhausted after a long day of band practice and acting.

“Thank you, my dear Chisa-chan.” She mumbles into the fabric of the sun’s nightgown. The sun responds by running a hand through her hair and massaging at her scalp.

“Here, your tea.” the sun says, and the moon reaches up a hand to grab it. A yellow mug, matching the purple mug the sun is holding so closely to her chest. Maybe she’s enjoying the warmth, too.

The moon sips at the tea. It’s warm, but not hot enough to burn the roof of her mouth. She breathes into the cup, and mumbles a sleepy “thank you” to her sweetheart, who responds by sweeping her finger down the moon’s nose bridge, earning her a tiny giggle.

The sun sinks down into the bed, eyes blinking sleepily over her tea. The moon enjoys their tender silence, not feeling an ounce of awkwardness in the air.

The moon only moves to place her cup on the table beside the bed, before snuggling right back into the sun’s side. “Chisa-chan… would you rest with me?”

The sun smiles, placing her own mug aside. She wiggles down, and runs a hand down the moon’s face, tucking a stray piece of hair behind her darling’s ear. She pulls the fluffy blanket around them both, surrounding them in a warmth that could not be matched. “Of course, my Kao-chan. Sleep well tonight.”

The moon doesn’t need to be told twice, droopy eyes falling shut as the kindness of sleep starts to pull her under. The soft, sweet scent of her sun calms her greatly, breathe evening out, and body relaxing completely. The sun doesn’t take long to follow, content to sleep until the late hours of the morning with her moon, her Kaoru.

The sun and moon, forever destined to revolve around each other, finally meet for a sweet, long sleep.
